How forgiving are the 900 Tours! Where do they fit in with all the JPX and MP's?

Anyone hear whether the $999 price is going up with the new irons release?

The price is going up $200 but only on the MP lineup. So get your mp5's fast haha!

My fitter was told the opposite by Mizuno rep, I work 5 mins from Mizuno USA. 900 tour $1199 for 3-PW, but current MP's will stay $999. Think the other 900 series irons were less than the tour. Also said that could change as they were possibly still evaluating pricing. Guess it won't be set til they are officially announced?

With one main difference: the other brands do no sell components. They sell complete clubs which is their ultimate weakness.

The entire market for component clubheads is probably about the size of Nike's golf BALL business. A golf club OEM selling $1,000 sets of irons rather than $300 sets of clubheads is hardly a weakness.

Selling $1000 sets? So who is buying? The market is in a slump.

There is no difference in markets between components and clubs. But there is a distinct reason why the components are sold less in this market. The heads from retailers are less sexy to the public or not as well designed. Or they are pretty exclusive and over priced.

Overall, OEMs in golf act strategically ultra slow and short sighted. They mainly stress the fact they of quality control. Which is good thinking but too narrow minded for individual adjustability needed for clubs. And as a whole OEMs create lots of surpluses but provide very little added value.

Why should a golfer replace the whole club if a club consists of 3 basic components?

Shortening the product cycles and maintaining too many models in a narrowing market which is pretty expensive. A leaner model might work out much better. This is where many JDM component sellers are thriving. Agreed, it is ia niche. But Kyoei and Miura prove their right of existence.

Always thought that Nike had the attitude to break with outdated models. But as a golf company it operated pretty old fashioned.

It could haven been much more progressive. Simply selling a set of Vapor Pro heads for $50 each and have it installed to a set of shafts which are already owned. Set up a functional trade in program and create parallel a cradle to cradle cycle. In the end Nike could have shown a way acting as a true innovating company.

Looks like someone already selling some according to another site

Thanks for the great pics.

What is the iron number for the topline shown- I am guessing 4 iron?

Took the Tours for a spin on the range today and have pics that I'll post tomorrow. Interesting that the demo I hit was painted all white as opposed to the above pics. I put them up against my MP-55s with c-tapers. The Tour was shafted with the Modus 105 stiff. I was quite surprised when I first picked it up. Thinner top line than 25s and a sole that is comparable to the eye. These are quite compact heads so it's pretty much just the finish that puts it in the JPX line. Very much a low handicap club. They look good and perform well, but I won't switch my 55s. I'd go to 5s before these but that's just me. Soft off the face as you would expect although I thought my 55s were just a bit softer, and zero visible tech built into the club. I'm not sure how these are supposed to fit into the overall line. It'll be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks. If you are already playing an MP club why go to the JPX line, especially if you're a good enough striker to play 64s, 5, 25s and so on. I wish they kept with the stamped in running bird logo instead of raised. Definitely good sticks and no complaints, but again I struggle to see where they fit in.

Love those tours , really wish they had a two iron . Might get a 3 iron and bend it strong with longer shaft . Trouble is it would say 3 on the sole, which shouldn't bother me but it would

Couple of pics to check out. First pic is obviously the Tour 6 iron. Second is a comparison against MP-25s. Third is topline of Tour, MP-55s and MP-H5s.

Wow they look amazing. I love that it has an even thinner top line than the mp 25. In that third pic, was the tour bent strong or was there offset?

Nah, that's just a straight up Tour 6 iron. Thin top line to begin with, and the finish/beveling make it look even slimmer. It just isn't sitting as square as the other two in the third pic.

One thing I didn't like on mp25 is the transition from hosel to heel area on topline...it looks odd......jpx tour 900 is best looking jpx to date....Idk how anyone wouldn't think so....very nice looking iron...and no boron to boot, it's almost like Mizuno granted my every issue with jpx and fixed it....cool they make 3 models.....everybody wants options....more is always a good thing

I'll get better pics either tomorrow or Wednesday, and put the other 900 heads in as well so you can clearly see how compact these are. I didn't have enough time to hit the LZ in the Tour and I really want to try that combo. Hopefully Mizuno releases some R&D promo soon...What forgiveness of JPX (if any) and playability of MP are built into these?

I really dislike that sandblasted finish. I had them on Callaway Apex and that finish doesn't hold up well (at least not on those irons)...shows wear very easy. I also fail to see where these fit in. Why would they make JPX line that could take sales away from the MP line. I thought JPX was for mid and higher handicap. Just seems like a lot of overlap to me.

They look great (except for that finish) though!

It seems like the options for people over in the UK and Europe don't include the Project X LZ or Nippon Modus (at least from the website that has them up for pre-order), but I'm guessing that might change once they are released.

Funny to hear the complaints about where they fit in. Does it really matter if it's JPX or MP in the name? Numerous complaints about the size of JPX-EZ and JPX-850 tours, they come out and launch these and more complaints?

Looks to me like a forged blade with some cavity goodness built in. Love the looks! Can't wait to see in person.
