I went to the shop today to get my new Hashimoto built, and he had the Tour demo heads, had no time, but got a first glimpse of what is on the way.

I like it, I like it a lot.

I really want a set of these irons. Actually demo'd them with the recoil shafts and loved them. Anyone ever gone graphite in their irons? Any thoughts? I know they're supposedly far more consistent than they used to be. I'm a low handicapper but don't have a ton of swing speed and the graphite shafts might help me justify buying these instead of the Apex's.

You can't go wrong with recoils! They perform just like a steel shaft if not better for most people. It's all about weight when you go to graphite. If you like that 95 gram weight class I would say those shafts are almost a better choice than kbs tour 90 or xp 95... Especially since they are no upcharge!

When I got fitted Wednesday I had every intention of going graphite, specifically the Recoils. Turns out I ended up ordering irons with Project X LZ tour graphite - go figure!

Thanks for the input folks. I'm a low single digit handicap but not long at all. I'm also getting "up there" at 38. I guess I remember the days when no one that could play used graphite shafts in irons but when I tested them I was ten yards longer easily. When you blast your seven iron a solid 160 the extra ten yards is great. I would imagine it wouldn't reduce feel in any way, which after all is the main reason to buy Mizzy.

I had MP-14s for years. Got old and realize I wasn't good enough for those lol. Went to the MP-58s and used those for years. Finally I switched to the 14 TM MC's. Good sticks, but I'm ready to go back to Mizuno's I think. Just tough to beat.

  • 2 weeks later...

So just hit these irons for about an hour. I will preface this by saying I almost bought these immediately upon seeing the photos, well because come on who doesn't think those are the most beautiful irons of all time. That should show you how ready I am/was to anoint these as the GOATs of the iron game.

Unfortunately I left feeling happy that I don't need to go out and spend $1,100 bucks to satisfy my golf ho cravings. While they are still undoubtedly one of, if not the most beautiful iron I have ever see, they just didn't warrant replacing my decade old Srixon I-404 irons that are permanently lodged in my bag. I have owned a bunch of irons over the last few years and these are my favorites bar none, still kept my Adams Idea CMB's and my Titleist 670 MBs though!

Like I said I was prepared to sell these all off so I could welcome in the Emily Ratajkowski of the golf iron world. I just didn't feel or see any reason to do so. Don't get my wrong they felt solid, and soft enough, however they were certainly shorter than what I'm playing now by 10 yards easily, not nearly as high launching, and no where near as forgiving.

The top line is by no means razor thin, but definitely a players club, looks great in my opinion, and the head size is quite compact, again something I found super attractive. At the end of the day though misses were punished significantly, 12-9 yards was about what I was seeing, and outside of them being the best looking iron ever made I couldn't justify replacing what I have in the bag now, let alone dropping a pretty penny on them.

I did try a bunch of shaft options (I currently play C-Tapers 130X), The DGs and C-Tapers were by far my favorite combo for this stick. And my goodness when I put the C Taper in there it was like I was holding a sword forged of valyrian steel. The shaft and the head were nearly identical in color and it looked as if it were all one piece. Some may not like this but to be honest I don't think I've ever seen a club look as sick as this combo did.

At the end of the day, they're still the best looking iron out there so for those who have the cash to blow and looks are your thing no reason not to give them a shot. If you're like me and you have to be "fiscally responsible" then I would take the time to weigh your options, as I personally still think Srixon Z745 and of course the new 765s are the best stick out there.

I have a quick question. I hit tours and literally cannot stop thinking about them. I play the 850f and didn't have a club with me when I stopped at the store so i couldn't compare the two but all these posts about them being short distance wise has me a bit worried. Has anyone purchased these strong to try to squeeze a few more yards out of them? Was peak height greatly effected? I was hitting the 7 iron in the bay a few yards shorter than my 850f's but def high in terms of peak height and spin (from what I remember during my fitting for the 850s).

For me, just think i gambled and got the wrong shaft, can not see that head producing that much less distance the the 5's. I will probably try again with my shaft. Mine were not high, with LZ's maybe just too much spin.

Ok thanks, good info there. I was loving the feel of the LZs, I'll have to pay extra attention to the numbers when I test

I just got mine today. Haven't had time to get them out on the course yet but hopefully will at some point in the next few days. When I got fitted for them I was hitting them just as far, if not further. PX LZ 6.0 made it easier than my 69s with standard px however. Love the feel of the head! Can't wait to get them out in the course.

I took a demo iron of the 900 tour and forged out on the course. Hit 6 irons about 10 holes. It kinda depended on which one had the better strike for distance. I think good for good, the forged is longer, but the tour feel much better than the forged, and I hit the same type of shots with the tour, so tour was more consistent. Forged was not as consistent. Not sure why. I think I may have to try out the tours...

Had my first 9 holes with these after work yesterday.

Loved them!

They feel absolutely awesome. Before these I had Mp 59's/69's and I really really liked these. I always struggled to tell the difference in feel between the 59 and 69 and couldn't understand why some people didn't like the feel of the 59. I had often read that they didn't feel like a "true" mizuno.

After just 9 holes with the 900 Tours I understand what people were talking about. They are soft, but crisp. So nice!!

The LZ shaft definitely has more feeling to it than the standard PX, which is what I had been looking for, but it still gives the strong px flight.

Hoping to get out for another 9 after work today to give them another whirl!

i really wanted to like these irons but they just don't feel as good as my mp-4's, i hit them side by side for an hour plus but they just don't have the same softness in my opinion. they look great, love the satin, great top line but to say they were more forgiving, for me they were not. i hit them with c-tapers, maybe with a different shaft the would feel a bit better.....

I liked the mp4 a lot. Went to s55 and now will be getting the 900 tours. They were outstanding for me. Got them with c taper 130. Can't wait for my set to come....

Probably some of the best looking irons Mizuno has put out in a while. Has anyone ordered with the PX LZ 6.5?

I liked everything about them, other than the fact I hi them a full club shorter than my 5's.

I tried the shaft on a whim, hoping to move on from the 130X, so not sure if it was that or what. I know when I flush a ball, and it just did not add up.

I have thought about ordering a single with 130x to try again, but I really love the 5's after a full season in the bag, no reason to change.

I don't think you are missing much. There is not much difference in heads with the same shaft, but time will tell, I should get my full set 900 tour with c taper maybe by the end of the week....

Just looking at your signature you're gonna prefer C Tapers I would imagine. Everyone of my buddies including myself was losing massive distance with the LZs. All of us are swingers, and based on the shafts I see in your sig, I'm assuming you move the club head pretty well yourself.

I was able to get out and hit the jpx 900 tours with c taper 130x soft stepped against my gamers, ping iblades.  When I hit the demo club against my own, it was clearly longer, and tight dispersion.     The tours feel fantastic and after comparing on course, I can't say one set is better than the other.  I went back and forth, and the best strikes shined, it didnt matter which head i used.  Now I do have different shafts in each, but the demo 900 tour with c taper easily beat out my 6 iron.  What I can say is that loft for loft, the jpx is longer, because the loft is higher.  I had to bend my pings strong to get just equal distance from the jpx tour.

Some things I may note about the two:

Looks:  900 tour, these look so good.  I love satin irons, and these are the cream of the crop in the looks department.  C tapers also add to the look, and look great.

Feel:  900 tour. Nice and soft, and solid. I mean they are forged.....

Distance;  edge to 900 tour, just because my pings are strong lofted and distance head to head seems to be equal.

Ball flight:  kinda hard to compare the heads with different shafts, but I feel like the c taper keeps the flight penetrating in the 900 tour.  Both irons are easy to hit, not a lot off mis hits with either.

Dispersion:  same.

Picture kinda sums it up, btw, the pin was not my target distance here, you can see all the shots on this hole, 2 with each iron, we're within a yard or so of each other....

Given all that, and the tours are worth more because they are new, i will put them on the BST.  The 5, 7, and 8 are still in plastic!   Anyone interested, shoot me a pm....
