I have an itch for new irons and really like the mp-54. I am just wondering as a 15 handicap am I biting off more than I can chew?

There are some brand new sets of 4-P with shaft options on the bay for $449 right now.

I'm a 25 hcp, give or take, and I really like the mp-52's. Haven't hit the 54's, but I've had no issues with forgiveness with the 52. I bought a set of JPX 825 Pro on the thinking that they'd give me more GI qualities while preserving the mizuno forged feel. They really don't. I prefer the 52. The only thing you can do is hit them. Demo a set at the range and see if you can take them on a practice round.

I like the jpx forged as well is there much difference between the two

Lofts are different, 850 forged have a fairly long heel to toe length I find. But they are very playable and look great.

My take is that the MP-54 has a higher ball flight and the grind is more suitable to a digger than a sweeper. So handicap aside, it really depends on your swing style if they'll work out well for you on an actual course. If you take divots and would like help getting more height on your shots then they're a good choice. If not, I think there are better choices.

Clubs are awesome, you should handle it just fine. Test it out, though, if you are coming from GI irons with stronger lofts, you will lose distance with the normalized iron lofts and could be a 7 iron loft is 34* vs 30*-31* on most GI 7 irons these days.

I was going to mention this same thing... if you test the 54s next to the JPX 850s, keep in mind that the lofts are different. The MP line tends to use what people consider more standard lofts where as the JPX can be a good bit stronger in the same iron... in some cases almost a full club. So, don't be fooled by the distance 'gains' you'll get with the JPX over the MP. (Caveat, the JPX 900 tour have the standard lofts whereas the 900 forged and 900 hot metal have the stronger lofts.)

haha, this crazy game of golf. I disagree with that the 850 Forged long irons are easier to hit than the 54's. I have had 850 forged for a long time and I find the long irons harder to hit due to the length of the blade, the sole, and leading edge. I find the 54's MUCH easier to hit in the longer irons than the 850's.

Something about the long blade length I find comforting lol

Spot on and exactly why I am happy with switching from 59 to 54. I would have no problem gaming JPX's as well after years of musclebacks.
