OCVCCD Disease (Obsessive Compulsive Vintage Club Collection Disorder

Recommended Posts

I'm afraid Obsessive Compulsive Vintage Club Collection Disorder (OCVCCD) is extremely hard to cure once contracted. I'm entering into the second stage of this affliction which is manifested by the ability to easily and completely rationalize the purchase of mass quantities of quality vintage clubs in the years prior to retirement (with discretionary income). The clubs can then be refurbished/played/sold in my golden years with the assurance that the kids and grandchildren will love inheriting a treasure trove of persimmon and forged blades. Any known cures/treatments besides filing for bankruptcy or wife threatening divorce?

Alcoholism, it takes up all your time, money and brain cells. Problem solved! Unless of course you need to function from day to day. Otherwise continue your current treatments for OCVCCD, kiss the wife and increase the amount of times a day you tell her how BEAUTIFUL she is and always encourage her to help you so you can spend much more quality time together. Or just continue working so you can give her a $1000.00 a month spending limit and encourage her to have as much fun with it as possible.

I've had many various forms of this disease, in chronological order, Alcoholism, Large Fish Tanks, Alcoholism, Golf(the 1992 version), Alcoholism, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and of course, 2014 to present GOLF. But i'm sober four years in July. I'm well schooled in all the side effects. Golf is by far the best version of this disease, especially if you walk when you play, Heart Healthy!

I just passed that Cape Horn and I see (and want) NO cure - but the years are nonetheless definitely golden

just enjoy

That's an impressive list of expensive hobbies there (well, I'm not sure Alcoholism is a hobby, but...). Two other great ones are yachting and photography. I used to be well into the latter. Now, whenever I buy a new set of old clubs I just tell the wife, "well, it's much cheaper than a zoom lens!"

Now that I think about it, buying old glass is a bit like buying old clubs.

Like wafer-thin anorexic people looking in the mirror and thinking they are fat, I am in the advanced stages where I look into my garage and see a veritable Alladin's Cave of vintage gems, beautiful persimmon and keenly crafted blades. The vast majority of the population of the world, even the golfing population, see landfill.

Why would anyone would be interested or want to know about a cure is beyond me.

This must be Stage 3 of the disease. Good to know I don't have to worry about this.

Its not a disease, its a quest for bliss and fulfillment filled with wonder and hope, happiness and the search for perfect gloves to protect my fingers

Bliss when you buy - depression when you resist.

I generally don't get over backing away for about a week.

Recently didn't pull the trigger on a driver actually used by Arnold Palmer - now that one is still bringing me down!

It only took 48 hours before this nasty disease came roaring back. Easy to justify spending $12.50 to get the TPM putter and Cleveland Launcher and two sleeves of new golf balls that were residents in the bag containing King Cobra irons (which are going on Craigslist tomorrow along with the golf bag and King Cobra driver).

Update: bag also contained a TaylorMade Rescue 22 Mid and a TaylorMade 58 degree copper face sand wedge, a dozen lightly used Titleist balls, nice hard plastic sunglass case, two heaping handfuls of tees, 2 crap gloves and a bottle of Advil (guess that comes into play during a bad round or too many beers along the way).

NOT US! We see it as you do, maybe even a little jealous if you have a garage full.

Was there actual papers proving The King used it? How much was it. I feel your pain!

Yes, it was a driver Mr Palmer gave to a pro who was a member at Bay Hill, during a round they played together at the club. It was a Palmer persimmon driver with unique identifying stampings.

Arnie told the pro if he stopped using it, he wanted it back. The pro actually played in the tournament at Bay Hill that year.

$1,800 won the auction.

There is a reason why Viagra and Cialis do so much of their advertising on golf telecasts and in golf magazines. ;-)

Me too. Unfortunately that is one of the reasons I golf so much.

I'm OCD about collecting (hoarding) great treasures (junk) from multiple hobbies. Just golf clubs would be a breeze!

Me: I'm bored.

Wife: What do you want to do?

Me: Either play golf or have sex.

Wife: Enjoy your round!

  • 1 month later...

My wife does not say crap about my vintage club habits. Man when she married me I owned two big trucks and was partners on 4 others not to mention the Corvette and 2 Harley Davidsons. Then I got big time into racing Go Karts. Got out of that and went big time into Modified 4 cylinder dirt track racing with a couple of Goody's Dash 4 cylinder cars thrown in. When I got out of racing for good in 99 or so I had 5 turn key race ready cars for dirt and 2 Dash cars ready to roll plus I was partners in another Dash car. That does not cover the spare parts tires and rims. I really got out of hand on that stuff because I bought out 4 top Mopar teams over the years when they switched to Ford or Toyota. I will say I bought the stuff cheap. But still when doing all the above I hoarded old clubs I bought at yard sales and flea markets. I honestly thought something was wrong with me on the classic clubs until I discovered WRX and this section. But my wife will tell you my classic club ho habits are a heck of a lot cheaper than all of the above

Your club collection is probably less expensive than your wife's shoe, purse and underwear collection!?

Tim,

Those are the ONLY 2 things worth waking up early for!!!

Good Answer +1 and also VERY truthful
