I used to have a V-Steel in the bag, now bag the Burner TP. Both are solid though.

Tight Lies II 3+ is pretty good. Pretty annoying how long it is.

V Steel was great in its day, and there's never been a fairway that has sat better behind the ball, but its performance doesn't compare to modern day fairways.

 

The best I have ever hit is my current 3 wood... 2017 M2 3hl. Honourable mention should go to the Ping G25 4 wood too.

V-Steel is still a killer with the shaft of your choice.

 

My current love is for the Callaway XR-16 (non-Pro). Tested it, loved it, bought it, and still in the bag 10 months later... that's saying something for me.

This thread pops up every few weeks and it always ends the same way. You'll see one person recommend this and another recommend that. In between people recommending random woods, you'll have multiple people recommend the V-Steel.

 

The V-Steel is the best fairway wood ever made. Bottom line.

It won't get the distance of the M2, which I am a fan of, but the most consistent 3 wood I've ever owned was the Mizuno Mp-001. I had V-Steels, but they were set up too closed for me to get along with...still hit some great shots though.

Henrik Stenson's Diablo Octane Tour with the Grafalloy Blue would have to be in the conversation. I don't think anyone has had as much success with a single fairway wood as he has with that one.

the one thats been in my bag for almost 10 years. the Nickent 4DX 4 wood. I just cant miss with it. I honestly dont think Ive ever hit a bad shot with it. At least one that I can remember!

I was a huge fan on the Cleveland launcher fairway woods, but now I have the SLDR 3 HL and I hate it.

 

Gave the Cleveland to someone just getting into golf ...

Nike VR Pro Limited - just enough of an open face to get rid of most hooks, versatile off of the tee and fairway, decent enough stock shaft, still gets out there with other clubs. I've debated going M2 after a demo day, but don't know if I could get it to hold greens when I want to as well. The regular VR Pro was solid too, but launched a bit too high for my liking.

All things considered I vote V Steel. It was the best in its day, has a longevity that no other club I can think has had (barring putters) and has generated more loyalty than virtually any other also. It also virtually never gets negative mentions, even from those 'supporting' other clubs.

 

I still game one (and have loads). I cannot tell you the number of pretenders there have been to the crown and with the right shaft the V Steel has always survived. I do need to try some 2016/17 clubs though as they may be the one to do it.

It's the shafts, folks. And the shaft that is the best ever for me is the Project X that Callaway put into their (newish) Xhot woods.

I have a Nike Ignite T-60 (15 degree) with the stock Fujikuro Ignite X shaft that I will likely play forever. It is an absolute sledge hammer for me. Your mileage may vary.

 

Best ever is too subjective and personal but I would rank this club pretty high.

I wouldn't hesitate to put an original Tight Lies into play with an updated shaft... same for V-Steel.

 

As far as most under-rated fairway ever, Jetspeed would probably get my voted... all the tech and performance of RBZ with less tee-bias and more conservative finish.
