How many of you play Non-fitted driver with stock shaft?

I do.

There are some reasons;

1. I cannot afford the new driver with full price.

I know you can buy the fitting only but I do not have one offers that near me.

2. I only buy second handed club.

3. I do not have reputable fitters in my area sadly.

(I had a similas experience at GG but I'd not call it as 'fitting'

4. I can play with that I have.

I know I can get better result with proper fitting. And I want to get it near future.

I'd like to here from you guys.

i do as well. i just dont see any reason to pay for all that when i only play about 25-30 rounds per year and i just play for fun. One of my regular partners paid for the fitting, the shafts, the loft/lie adjustments, driver, etc. and, although he does normally beat me by 2 or 3 strokes per round, and he out-drives me on average about 10 yards (hes also a lot bigger, has a faster swing speed, and is a lot stronger than i am), i just dont want to spend that kind of money to save a couple of strokes. i play to have fun, not competitively. i did pay for a putter fitting though!

however, after recently purchasing those K-Sig balls because of all the hype, I was consistently dead even with him on drives, and even out-drove him on a couple of holes by 3-5 yards...i thought that was interesting given the fact that the tests on that other site claimed the k-sigs were about 10 yards longer with the driver than the prov1's (which is what my buddy uses), and it was certainly true in my case as well

I admit I did. Didn't really have much of a budget the last time I bought a driver so paying for a fitting wasn't really in the cards. I did take the time to demo as many as possible until I found one that I was comfortable with and was in the budget.

I did until I didn't. I will never play off the rack again unless that's where the numbers end up. I picked up 22 yards and tightened my dispersion over the stock Epic shaft. I get the cost factor, but if you can it's money well spent.

I do play with a stock Ping shaft in my G30, but that was actually what I had the best numbers with iny fitting. Tried multiple others, just didn't get the same numbers as the stock shaft.

Heard many positive feedbacks on ping's stock shaft.

I did enjoy my g30 also.

I was fit at Titleist for a driver in 2013, but the Ping G25 that I bought off the rack worked better. I still play it. I have tried newer drivers, and some are a little longer on my best hits, but the G25 is the most consistently straight. I got lucky with that one.

I'm on a budget as well, and found a happy medium. If you're buying new drivers from previous model years or lightly used drivers, there are some great deals to be had from discount sellers and resellers. If you buy the driver cheap enough, you can afford to sell it on eBay after a trial run. I tried 2 drivers this way before finding something I liked. Then I swapped the shaft for something I liked better than stock. It takes more work & time than a professional fitting, but if you're a golf geek (as many of us are), it can be fun. Cheers!

Ive modified my own drivers since 2005 i think..(Hogan CS-3 8.5 Fade, with Aldila 70 S) because those club fitters that was in Denmark back then, was no good, they had no clue. I lost a lot of club speed and distance since then....its NOT funny getting older, but YES i have more fairway hits now vs then, but i was a maniac with the driver back then 🙂

For those who have the same hinders as the OP, will in many cases be better off with a DIY driver tune up, unless the shaft and head is "far out" vs what it should have been, and you DONT need any knowledge about fitting or need for any special tools at all, so this DIY driver tune up, is written so anyone can do it by themselves.

I wanted TSR2 head and my coworker was selling his. I bought it and it happened to have a Tensei blue in it and it has been the best driver I have ever hit.

I have up until now, im dome with it. Im in the same boat, budget is one thing but also new drivers from the big brands are 600+ dollars now and that just seems silly to me...until I did the math. I can keep trying used drivers and not liking them or I can pay for a fitting, get a deal on one of the last year models they still have in stock and probably come out ahead. Im going to do it for my irons too.

I figured I only need to get fitted once, unless I make some drastic change to my swing or start getting a lot better, but I'm a ways off from that. Once I actually know my numbers I can go find whatever I want but now Ill actually know what should work and what shouldn't instead of trying to guess all the time.

I always played stock or fit myself. Actually just had a fitting a couple days ago and only picked up a couple mph of ballspeed but got a way better launch angle, much better spin and peak height and netted 10-15 yards extra carry. Safe to say the results surprised me and I will be leaving it up to the fitter from now on.

My Golf Galaxy 'fitting' was so bad that I should just play off the rack.

I play off the rack or build myself. For reason you cite. Not just at Golf Galaxy. At pro shops I have noticed that selling clubs is the bottom line. As should be expected. Never had a fitting where the pro told me, "If your current setup is working for you, why do you want to buy new clubs?"

Me: Because they look so beautiful!

When the EXS driver first came out, I tried it at a pre-COVID demo day. It flew well, but my driver at the time was still working well.

As time passed, that first driver just felt too heavy; I needed a lighter shaft.

Stumbled across the EXS in a demo-day used club barrel a few weeks after it went out of production. Price was $150 for club with no face marks on it; the vendor evidently thought TE was an off-brand, and said I could have it for $140 since it was used.

I bought it, and after a few range sessions, I had the weights adjusted to get the most out of it. Rather an after-the-fact fitting.
