That's a real trend that will continue to happen in the future in high demand areas. Let the course go as they privately try to sell for a high amount to developers. Golfers are the losers but the real losers are the home owners surrounding the course. That premium value will be lost as it's filled with new homes, apartment complexes, shopping centers, etc... They usually include a small park to shut up the residents.

 

Really sad, I had heard about that course and was previously wanting to play it at some point.

 

Happened to a nice track in KC. Dallas is growing like crazy so I can understand it.

 

Always use caution when buying a home on a golf course.

I used to live in the Dallas area and saw Tour 18 run the gambit: elite conditions and price to $29 for a weekday teetime, now water in the hazards or sand in the bunkers. It sounds like the current status is pretty bad ... which is why I was surprised to see Avid Golfer rank it in the "Best of Public" ranking this year. What gives? Are conditions back on the mend? Should I ignore Avid Golfer rankings, because they don't know what they are talking about?

 

... just curious, because I used to like the course.

Played it a week ago, don’t waste your money. The fairways are bare, most traps unplayable. Greens surprisingly were OK

The rankings by Avid Golfer for Tour 18 have always been curious and interesting to say the least.

 

For example, this year in their course by course listing for the courses on the West side, they are something like 15th or so and 3 courses with green fees over $80 are ranked above them. Then when you get to the sections where they do their little write-ups, they rank them as the 2nd best course on the West side under the category of Elite courses with green fees over $80. For some reason, Avid Golfer is bound and determined to give them as high a ranking as possible.

AG’s rankings are generally a good guide for DFW golf but they consistently shower their consistent advertising partners (don’t forget about the Ideal Golfer side of the business) with overly favorable comments and rankings.

 

They gloss over the abysmal conditions at Tour 18, tout Coyote Ridge as an excellent routing (when it was built around two residential development cooridors) but then barely acknowledge some of the great municipal options because Dallas and Ft Worth don’t spend a lot of money with AG/IG.

I've heard the HOA wants or wanted/tried to buy the course as they feel it's current condition diminished the neighborhood. Lived in DFW twenty years so seen it pristine as it should be and what it has become. Hope someone buys it and returns to worth a $100 course again, it's a great layout.

I live about 10 minutes from Tour 18 and do not go.

. The concept is dated and the course has no flow. The land it’s on it’s fantastic but they would do better by blowing it up and starting over with a rebuild.
