Guy from my club qualified for the US Open!

So this year we have a US Open and a US Senior Open qualifier from my club: Kevin Dougherty and Robert Funk, respectively. So cool!

That is pretty cool! A guy from our club qualified for the US Open at Torrey Pines in 2008, which was a pretty big deal around here too considering Quebec is not exactly a golf hotbed. The local newspaper wrote about it when he played, though he was a well known guy who also ended up playing on the Canadian tour

There was a kid who worked/practiced at the course I used to practice at a few years ago who qualified for the Open at Chambers. I was kind of flabbergasted because he spent more time on his phone than actually practicing. I would literally putt around him on the practice green and he wouldn't batt an eyelash, so fixated on that screen he was. LOL. Although I thought it was great that he made it, I kinda knew it was a fluke. Didn't quite make the cut if you know what I mean. He is floundering around on the LatinoAmerica tour now three years later without any real accomplishments that I can see. Probably still staring at his phone instead of doing what is necessary. Kids these days.

Scott Harvey is a member at one of my best friend's club in NC. The guy can flat out golf his ball as he demonstrated shooting the course record up in NJ during qualifying.

I'm sure he was applying his SAM PutLab findings to his game and crunching other vital putting stats... maybe if YOU worked smarter instead of harder you'd get better too, mmkay? :taunt:

Weird, I actually never saw any of these comments. Would have responded immediately.

 

Kevin shot 71 today. He absolutely can make the cut. To be honest, he can get a top 20. He hits the ball so far it's ridiculous. He outdrives me by 60 to 100 yards every hole. Hits it right with DJ.

 

His putting routine is solid, and his mental game and preparation are big strengths.

 

His main issue for a while was distance control with his short and mid-irons, but he is getting better and better at that every day.

 

He works as hard as anybody, and has the right temperament and plenty of ability. The reason I think he will make it? He is significantly better today than he was two years ago—and that is not easy to do when you are already as talented as he is.

Appreciate it. Guy is movinggggg it. 330+ with a field average of 304. 83% GIR on a ballpark that big with fescue in play is amazing. The WITB gave it away too. X7s in the irons. Someone to root for.

Dougherty makes the cut at -1! was sitting at the cutline with three to play, then made an eagle on a par five late and his round! That's two eagles in two days.

That's great stuff. He made the cut and I think it was 8 of the top 10 in world didn't. Regardless of how he does the rest of his career this is going to be a great memory for him and club members.
