I'm debating getting a 6 hybrid... Am I crazy?

I was trying to hit this green the other night with my 6 iron that was elevated and back into the breeze a little bit, I hit about 4 balls with the 6 that all come up short or just onto the front of the green. I finally pull my 20 degree G25 and just take like a 3/4 swing and choke down a little. I hit the most beautiful high shot into the green pin high, lands super soft and with almost no effort! I could probably hit 7 out of 10 hybrids like that, I might hit 1 out of 10 5 irons like that. It's the only hybrid I carry but often wonder why I don't have 4 or 5 in the bag. Wasn't there a guy on here a few years ago that had almost an entire bag of hybrids? If you can withstand all the crap you'll hear from your friends, it would probably help peoples games immensely.

Ridicule of friends has been mentioned a few times in this thread. Stuffing shots with any club has a tendency to silence the critic (even more so if you are taking their money).

Not got down to a 6h, but have a 27* 913H that works pretty darn well. Hit some really good shots with it. Definitely takes some getting used to looking at a hybrid with that much loft.

I enjoy the club banter though and never give a toss what someone thinks about what I play, when I use them, I refer to my 24* as my Champions Tour hybrid and my 27* as my LPGA hybrid.

Similar to that story, last week I played one of the better rounds I've ever played - I had only a few duffs/bad judgments. On hole 13 I had about 172 yards to the hole, slightly uphill - made it about 175 yards. Because I'm not confident with the 6i (the green was in a tight location), I elected to go with a choked-up 5h. BEAUTIFUL strike - but it sailed over the green for probably 180-185 yards. I thought to myself, damn... If I could get that kind of feel from a higher lofted hybrid, I could really give a hoot about how I look doing it.

I'm excited for the change. I'll definitely let y'all know how it goes. I should be taking the new 6h out on Thursday morning. I'll hopefully finally have an approach weapon from 170 yards - especially on those pesky par 3's. Pumped!

Not that my 6 iron is non-functional, it's just that I'm really enjoying the flight, the consistency/ease of use from my other hybrids. I need a soft-landing ~170-180 yard shot that I can count on.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

EDIT: Just pulled the trigger on a TM RBZ stage II 6 hybrid. Got the shaft shortened by 1 inch to make my hybrids (3 through 6) a consistent 1/2 in length decrease and to better match my 7i. Got it for around ~$40 on second swing in good condition.

Lol, that didn't take long, huh?

Only you can determine what works best for you. No one on this forum can help you with that. The scorecard couldn't care less what is in your bag.

The Taylor Made Rescue was not the first hybrid by a long shot, but it was the first one to be a big success. People did get grief for playing them. I remember being disappointed they didn't include a 5H at the time.

There is a par 3 that normally plays 155-165 which is usually a 6i for me. I rarely hit the green with my current 6i. Yet I remember back in the day I had Ladies TM rescue 6h that seemed to be an automatic GIR on that hole. Sometimes wonder why we get rid of certain clubs p

Got inspired, bought a new close out Adams Idea Tech 6h (28) on eBay for $40 from Hurricane. In my lofts it will replace my 5 iron. First range tryout was great. Wish they were selling a 7 to replace my 6 iron.

I play K15 3,4,5,6 hybrids. I'm a single digit cap. No one in my group cares who hits what type or number of club. It's all about the score at the end of the round.

I've purchased a K15 7 wood (22*) that will replace both my 3 (20*) and 4 (23*) hybrid. I don't use the 3 all that much and will take both out and add the 7 wood and a 64* wedge.

Knowing that no one in our group cares what club we all hit from any distance our favorite line is "It's 183 to the flag, so a choked down 3/4 pitching wedge should due" or "It's 110 to the flag over the trap, I'd hit the 3 wood as hard as you can and see where it ends up".

You play the club for the shot and distance for YOU, no one else. If that 6 hybrid is your club, so be it, hit it!! Guys in our group range from a 150 yard 9 iron to a guy that hits a 150 yard 3 wood (at 79 years old, he beats us all)

I play a 28 PXG Hybrid, this is my 160 club. My irons end at 8. I just play hybrids better. My set includes 19, 22,25,28 PXG and i just started playing a Callaway Big Bertha OS & 7 hybrid. My accuracy/consistency is better. Handicap under 3. All of these hybrids have Oban Revenge shafts. Shot a 69 Saturday night.

i have the Adams Idea Tech V4 32* 7h...

very hard to find as i think it had a very limited run but lucky to have found one on eBay about 4 years ago..

great club by the way and exactly the same length as the forged 7 iron in the same set...

i had both the 6 and 7 forged irons and the 6h and 7h but eventually chose the hybrids over the forged irons as gamers..

One of the driving ranges nearby had an Idea Tech V3 7 iron -- A flex stock shaft. We had a great time hitting soft 170 yard draws with it one day. I think it was 33* and it was long and high -- just beautiful. If it works for you and looks good to you behind the ball, it doesn't matter what head or shaft.

i also have the V3 7-iron/hybrid but the V4 version is a real hybrid..

the V3 version is more like a large soled iron..

i personally prefer the V4 version..
