Just an outstanding Event. Royal Birkdale proved to be the perfect venue with the best conditioned greens I have ever seen for an Open Championship. The other Open courses in the rotation will find it hard to top this year's event!

Congratulations to everyone at Royal Birkdale for making the Open so great!...Outstanding Job!

Recorded the final round so didn't look at this thread during the round so there would be no spoilers. I've never looked forward to going back and readings today's post. Going to be great.

"Unfortunately" Sekrah got thrown out and there was too much discussion of shirts. I was kind of disappointed.

BRITISH OPEN VICTORIES - LAST 25 YEARS

Americans 14

Europeans 6

Not that it means anything. :)

You know it would mean a lot if the Euros won that ratio of US Opens. It would be non-stop chirping on here. Alas, it's 15-3 US over Euros in the US Open over the last 25, I believe.

The Masters must mean more to the Euros than The Opens.

Rory's yellow shirt to be specific.

Ha! That may be. 15-5 US to Euros over the last 25 in the Masters, I believe.

EDIT: oops, 14-6.

Haha I specifically had Sekrah in mind. Only to find out very early when reading through the posts that we wouldn't be able to hear from him. Luckily a few other were able to cover for him. Did not disappoint. Golf has always has been and always will be about getting the ball in the hole in the fewest amount of shots. How you do it doesn't matter.

Just watched the whole 13th again.....it was friggin great drama! If you didn't like that and what followed I suggest in taking up another sport! It was fantastic from the player and crowds, simply brilliant stuff

Since you are there, how do you think the venue and surrounding area (traffic, restaurants, hotels, etc) held up to the tournament? It's always fun to have a major in your hometown.

Much like those asinine threads, who gets the career grand slam first, Jordan or Rory?

The way things have been trending, probably Jordan.

Hopefully, Rory has turned the corner with his performance here. He's won twice at Quail Hollow, so I'm sky high on his chances.

But Rory needs to win The Masters for the GS, or maybe I am misunderstanding your post.

And as an aside, I kind of like Rory's shirt but I'd have it in a different color probably.

Spieth played magnificent from 13 on in and he deserved the win. Congrats to him....he's a great player and will probably go on to become one of the all-time greats.

That said, he came across like a whiney little b**** bellyaching about his opening tee shot. "This is crap. This is crap. Don't reward a good shot."

Hey....it wasn't that good. Get over it. Greller should get 50% of his check.

It's been here since the 50s and it's just gets bigger. In 2008 the 16th,14th and 1St didn't have the stands like this year. Southport is a holiday place and has loads of hotels etc also the roads in and out are good to the motorways. Liverpool and Manchester airport are close by so in all it holds up most probably the best out of the open venues.

Went Manchester last night with wife for a meal and the trains were packed....oh yeah the trains are close by to.

The women's is at Lytham next year which is only 30 mins drive away so I'm quite lucky that I'm in golfing country.

But wow, I can't understand how anybody can be down on Speith, that was great stuff truly was!

I did get ahead of myself. A Rory win in Charlotte stops Jordan's career slam in 2017, then it's advantage Rory as 2018 opens.

I really liked the color and remarked during his play how much I would like one that color. Yellow is a curious tint--looks really good on some people (Rory) and not so good on others--I happen to like to wear the color.

Funny, I DVR'd it and first thing I said was "I think I should get a yellow shirt" to my wife. She concurred.

The yellow was in honor of The Open yellow. I thought it looked pretty good when Rory was standing in front of the big scoreboards.

I know that folks are enjoying picking nits about Spieth, but that is one of the great charges to the finish you're ever going to see. If you love golf enough to be on this site, you ought to have enjoyed the hell out of it.

I guess Jordan haters must have had a great time for while. Go Jordan. Another win with a lot of thrill. He can hit it like an amateur at times, but when the guy gets going, he's a real champion.

Well, he blew it, AND he won, so everyone should be happy, right?

He was just like the Globetrotters. Keep it close for three quarters to entertain the fans, then really play and win.

If Spieth gets free relief because of that cable cam, that would be the most ridiculous bullxxxx ever

I can't believe what I'm watching either...

Now the worst drop, BY FAR, was tiger's Firestone drop from the freaking roof..

Arnold Palmer's embedded drop on #12 in the 1958 Masters?

Bobby Jones water hazard ruling from George Herbert Walker (yes HIM) in the 1930 US Open?

I did not see those as my DVR was at capacity at the time... ?

The only bit of this tournament I got to see this week were the first few holes with Jordan yesterday, and then the 10th hole through the 18th today. Wow, this was as much fun as last year's conclusion. Well done. I really enjoy watching the Scottish and Open, aside from Masters week, two of my favorite weeks to watch golf on TV so I was bummed when my schedule didn't allow me to catch more of it. Golf courses there are so much more visually interesting on TV to me.

I just watched the round - dvr is god's solution to commercials and makes things so much nicer.

That was a wild round - totally fun. I think the 13th and Spieth directing the process engaged his intensity and recalibrated his brain. After the drop he was magnificent... a savage.

Now who's next for the slam? Him? Rory? PGA just got more interesting!

Sergio, Koepka, Jordan. Good bunch.

Ice cold, straight gangster back 9 finish. I was shaking my head when he was +3, almost wondering if Li was going to sneak into a playoff. Fantastic final round.
