New Cobra CBs/MBs Coming Spring 2018

Those definitely look like the Forged TEC in the blacked out photo. I hope they release before April though. At least have fittings and pre-orders earlier.

So while at the PGA Show I checked out the Cobra line. They now have the Forged Tech blacked out. Looks stealth!!! Ask about a Forged offering other than the MB/CB and the rep said that they had the Forged from last year (whatever that means). No mention of a new model.

It means the Forged Tour Progressive and One Length came out last January and are not being replaced yet. I think CB/MB and Forged Tour irons are on a two or three year cycle. Cobra found a good thing with their forged irons and tend to only make cosmetic changes anyway.

That's just the black wearing off on the bottom of his clubs to the bare steel underneath... it's not an insert or anything.

 

Cobra are the most underrated clubs in golf. I've tried everything there is to try, and I've gone back to their KING Forged Tour irons. They have the lowest offset of any iron out there, even all the most recent P730/Cally MB/Titleist MB blades, good top line, incredibly soft and forgiving, etc. Unfortunately, only like 1% of the golfing public is going to pick up these Forged Tour's and try them. They are easily the best irons out there right now.

Rickie does has a tungsten insert directly in the bottom of his MB's. The 2018 MB public release has it as well. In this picture you can see the circle where it was inserted a little more clearly. Not disagreeing with anything else you've said, as I clearly enjoy Cobra products as well. (Sig).

That's the first I'm seeing that picture, as his normal WITB photo shows the whole bottom of the sole worn. However, that tungsten is different than the tungsten in the retail.

 

The tungsten that's in the retail is more towards the toe I believe to move CG behind the center of the face at impact. That tungsten is in the bottom middle, which not only lowers the CG, but I'm sure is there to also increase SW back to normal as he recently started playing his irons like -.5" short.

The tungsten is in both the toe and the sole in retail for 2018. 2016 version was only toe.

Take a look at the zoomed in shot of the 2018 version. This is the CB/MB combo, has the tungsten plug in the center. It probably isn't to Rickie's specs but it is added in.

They are pretty small. I definitely wouldn't buy sight unseen if you have reservations about size.

I have a set of the AMP forged and they are the same as the Forged Tour and I know that is the smallest head I could hit. I've seen some MBs and Mizuno blades that look downright tiny. I would imagine the CB/MBs would be similar.

The Forged MB/CB line is verysmall. I'd say the smallest profile on the off-the-rack market for sure.

Hard to say, I haven't seen any updates on them myself. These are my favorite irons by far, so I'm definitely going to keep my eyes peeled on where Cobra is going next with them. I wouldn't mind seeing the Orange color scheme going away, as even Rickie himself seems to be departing from it. However, outside of the one orange line, they are an amazing looking club, and I know I'm going to be very picky with whatever comes next!

Pretty sure in one of these threads someone said a higher up at Cobra said they King Forged are not being replaced this year. With the MB/CB and ForgedTec coming, along with the F8 line, I really dont see why they would anyways. Plenty of options

I had resolved to not buy more irons until I went through a full fitting again, but the black forged TEC are really tempting me. The entire make up of that iron appeals to my game anyway... and then they made it black.

Called a local fitter today about demoing the black forged tec irons. He called cobra and they told him that the black forged tecs will not be making it to the demo carts. They told him demand is not high dnkugj. I have been waiting to buy another set of irons because i wanted to test these too

With the last TECs I think the fitters just got a 7 iron with different shafts. No fitting head. Which is disappointing as I wanted to try them with the S Taper against the DG AMT.
