Seinfeld and Golf

Medic

Recommended Posts

I am a HUGE Seinfeld fan. Have seen every episode several times. Earlier today I was telling a co-worker about my round Sunday and used a Seinfeld quote because it really fit what happened. And it occurred to me - there are other Seinfeld fans on here. And it might be fun to see how you could tie a golf experience into a description that includes a famous quote from a Seinfeld episode.

Here was mine BTW....

There was a storm off in the distance and it was moving in slowly as we made the turn. The course was right on the ocean and this was only making things worse as the wind kicked up sand and you could tell that the weather was really about to turn bad. The sea was angry that day my friends. Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. So we pressed on and barely finished before the skies opened up and it started raining so hard you couldn't see a foot in front of you. We had to rush a bit and I didn't shoot my best finishing score but I didn't get soaked either.

For those of us who love both the game and the show this might be interesting. : )

My wife and I always joke about ," You don't want to get married, it's a man made prison!!! You're doing time!! You wake up, she's there, you go to bed, she's there, oh and when you get home and want to eat dinner in front of the couch..... forget about that.... you know why?? Because at dinner you have to talk about your day!"

Great thread. I played with a solid foursome pretty much during all of the Seinfeld years.

Any Greens Keeper or maintenance guy was referred to as “Cousin Jeffrey.”

A very close buddy (named Larry) and I would often scrap our afternoon sales calls and go play golf. When paired with another twosome, we always introduced ourselves as “Murphy and O’Brien.”

(Lost Larry to cancer last year, too young to go, I miss that guy).

Love the Seinfeld shows. My pal gave me a few sport coats last year, vintage stuff from the 1960's. One is a summer houndstooth, a bit lighter than the Kramer "Dr. Van Nostrand" coat, though. I enjoy wearing it, while sporting the longer stemmed Bing's Favorite pipe. Too bad, I threw out my Dad's 1940's ties after he passed.

Bought the wife a J. Peterman summer dress (on sale) earlier this summer. (Yes, there is a J. Peterman catalog.)

A Festivus miracle!

No it’s Seinfeld, it’s Kramer telling Jerry after Jerry got engaged. Then Jerry says, “I think I might have made a very big mistake !”

Reminiscent of the Chinese Restaurant Episode (Cartwright and Costanza).

Was on vacation one time and made 6 tee times the week prior - all with the same person, all on the same course and all at the same time.

All was good until day 4. I went to check in and they said, we have no Ferguson on the sheet at 8:26, but we do have Fendelson. I replied, “Fendelson – is that even a name?” I explained that I made 6 tee times and they must have punched in the wrong name…yada, yada, yada - they said I had to wait for Fendelson to NO SHOW before I could take their tee time.

Confused, I walked out to my wife and the couple we were with and said, “they have no Ferguson on the list?” Then, over the speaker they asked for Fendelson to come to the pro shop. My buddy’s wife said, “who is Fendelson.?” I replied, I am Fendelson.” My buddy chimed in, You’re not Fendelson.”

We laughed our butts off.

Fendelson never showed and we took his time.

Never imagined I'd 'like' so many Ferguson's posts! Well done man; some of yours are real gems that I might borrow!

Whenever a buddy hits a squirrely one (duck hook snipe, huge slice, $hank, missed tap-in, etc) one of us will mutter: "...and you want to be my latex salesman..." in that slightly disgusted tone.

Went to college with Seinfeld though he wouldn't recognize me now if he ran over me with one of is 100 Porsches.

When I lived in Upper Manhattan my home course was Van Cortlandt Park where Kramer penalized the MLB player for cleaning his ball on the fairway which caused the player to murder Pinkus the dry cleaner.

On a particularly bad day on the course this always works:

"Serenity Now!"

Just recalled a personal incident, reminiscent of a Seinfeld episode, regarding the leather jacket. I had bought a nice brown leather jacket at some point. Before I had my cataract surgery, the Doc (also my tax client) prescribed contacts. (A year before my surgery.) Anyhow, the day I picked up the contacts, (Doc had installed a pair) I wore the brown leather jacket, with a dress shirt and tie. I go into a Wendy's later that day, for a to go hamburger, and the clerk, a girl, maybe around 30, really starts flirting with me. I banter back and leave.

I didn't wear the jacket again, until a brother in laws funeral. Initially, I wore a jacket and tie, but being cold that day, I went home to get a heavier coat, before going to the church hall for the dinner. The BIL was a biker, so I figured I'd wear the leather jacket.

The widow was elated I "wore the leather in honor of Ron" and others complimented me also. The old ladies just buzzed around like flies. Missus was amused by it. (She knows I'll never make the same mistake twice.) One younger lady, told me I was getting younger. It was really funny.

I'm usually the twisted, hideous freak, like Kramer in his outdated coat and tie. "Look away, I'm hideous."

That leather jacket got me "Jerry status."

Never underestimate the power of a leather jacket.

Silly, but true.
