Jack Nicklaus - 1990 Masters - 50 years old - 13th hole - longest drive of the day at 300 yards, outdrives Faldo by 35 yards!

Back then golfers would actually try to draw it around the corner to give them a shorter approach. Now they either drive it through the fairway into the pine straw or try to fade it over the trees. If these guys today could hit a draw, they'd have a wedge into the green.

Well there are the two lefty faders that have a nice advantage on that hole. Remember Bubba hitting that 360+ bomb fade one of the years he won. Pretty incredible. All the right to left doglegs around that course seem to be a very nice advantage for Bubba and Phil. I like their chances this year. Both guys in great form.

Great post.

I knew they used to have black caddies but man is that weird to watch. That and they all just walked around smoking. Different game 30 years ago. Fun to watch.

just an FYI (if you were unaware), at that time players were required to use only the caddies employed by/at the Augusta National.

The caddie situation is a little uncomfortable to be honest.

As much as I love the 70s, there are things that are MUCH better today.

And notice the non-caddies that were rushing in to fix the ball marks after both players had hit to the greens - watching the '75 the other night one of the guys walked right across Nicklaus' line. They were also in charge of bunker raking as well, looked to have a guy or two on each hole just assigned to do that. All the years I've watched had never noticed that before.

This is so amazing. Just watched the 2004 and never had the full context of Phil’s win.

Didn’t know Els made that big of a charge and was going crazy getting up and down all over the back nine.

Never saw DiMarco give Phil a read on that final putt!

31 on the back nine on Sunday!?

I’m just worried I won’t be able to watch as many as I’d like within the next 2 weeks.

It's crazy to watch, but in the 75 round, when Nicklaus hits to 12 I think, his ball is right over the stick and about 15 feet past the hole, and one of the caddies walks up there to fix the ballmark, which seems to be a common thing on the telecast. I'm not sure if they had extra caddies working to rake the bunkers and fix ball marks or what , but the guy fixing the ballmark walks all over Nicklaus' putting line when he goes to fix the mark. I thought that was classic. Maybe without spiked shoes on it might have helped tamp down some spike marks.

Duval should have won on '01. Very cool stuff...

How about in 98? i dont know how he didnt win 1 in that 4-5 year span. crazy when you think about it

Gonna have to rewatch 98. I don’t remember Duval being close to a win. I remember O’Meara, Couples, and Nicklaus. Need to give that one another look for David’s performance.

This is the best thing I have gotten out of being a Wrx member. I mean other than and the knowledge that a scratch golfer could break 85 Augusta and that using blades will help me become a better iron player ;)

Just watched '86. Apparently jack won his 20th "major."

When did they stop counting US Am a major?

Right about when Tiger won 3 of them.

Makes you wonder which tourney they will call a major in 30 years.

Current professional majors have been considered "the" majors since at least the 40s so doubt much will change - don't need fake ones like the LPGA or Champions Tour.

Duval, had a 3 shot lead going to 16.He bogeyed 16 and couples eagled 15 at the same time and they were tied. Duval had almost the same putt omeara had on the 18th to get to -9. So close.

99 was also great because the course played super tough as well. Normans last hurrah. he gave Jose maria a good battle but couldnt make anything on the back to pressure him enough

Impressive that it took this long for the channel to get some content! More impressive - 6 days, 17 hours, 6 minutes and 33 seconds of content!

Your move USGA and PGA of america!
