Things that have been bugging me lately

Hat backwards and shirt untucked. I can tell by looking at someone that they're one of the newbies just picking up the game due to the increased popularity and are going out to hack around for 18 while not repairing their divots and pitch marks. I've also been hit into three times in the last 4 months by what I suspect was from a couple of these "newbies" (we we're also waiting on the tees for groups ahead of us so it wasn't from our slow play). I kept my cool and let it go (I only tee'd one of the guy's ball up after he hit near us) but, I can't promise I won't start taking golf balls or firing them into the woods if it keeps happening.

Only place I ever saw an actual fistfight on a golf course was Bethpage.

My wife and I saw a fight on our local muni a couple of years ago. Someone hit into someone, and the guy got in his cart and drove back and started running his mouth. One thing led to another, they start swinging. The guy eventually gets back in his cart, followed by the guy he was fighting who proceeds to get on top of him and Forest Gump him several times. They all left the course, and the guy who got his face beat on ended up having to get life flighted and have emergency surgery. They tried to sue the golf course, lol.

Not too long ago we had something similar happen. Guy duffs a tee shot, goes the wrong direction and lands close to a group on an adjoining fairway. Adjoining fairway group gets riled up, and one of them takes a club to the head of the guy who duffed the shot. Cops came, arrest was made. Ran into the injured golfer's brother recently; told me he's permanently disabled. Solid reminder that not everyone on the course is levelheaded.

Fast Golf has been grinding my gears as of late. Not the general "be considerate of others behind you," keep up with PoP mentality, but the speed at all costs, no lining up putts, no practice swings, "a round of golf shouldn't take more than 2.35666666666" types. Plan your day better. I'm here for my own enjoyment, not solely to ensure yours.

What bugs me today is people who think the rules of golf as applied to the pros violate “common sense” because they are too dumb to understand or appreciate their function and purpose.

Examples are people who are upset Spieth got himself DQ’d and people who think it is ok that Matsuyama pressed down on the ground under the guise of resting his clubhead on it.  In both cases one got away with his infraction and the other didn’t but in both cases there is a widespread feeling that in the interest of having a good show the rules should be ignored or changed.

It's "hit on the cart girl every time I see her" guy for me and it's not even close - and my league partner is one of those douchebags.  Every time you see her the conversation doesn't need to start with "Are we doing a shot!?"

so the guys a douchebag and you have him as a golf partner, known by the company you keep

Amen to that.  Played in a tournament last Saturday and I verbally told our group “ this is going to be a slow round.  These events always are .,, none of this rushing to wait 39 min on the next tee crap.  Play when ready.  But be courteous… we’re not going to interrupt each other so the guys behind us have to wait less.  “.   It was met with sighs of relief.  And praise.  I’ll be damned if I’ll be the hurry up sandwich between a wait on every tee and to go into every green.  If they want to have officials out enforcing pop - fine by me.  But when they don’t. I’m not going to be the one hurrying just to wait more.

1) Not fixing divots. Like even if you don’t make a divot, just fix a divot. Then the greens would be fine. It’s not hard.

2) out of bounds. Especially when your ball just creeps over. Over-penalizing.

i dont follow this one - should you get less of a penalty if its only a little over the line?  Or, is your point just OB in general?

yeah just comparatively to a lost ball or water ball. Hitting OB means straight disaster. Any other penalty you can have a chance at recovering for a bogey or even a par.

Lost ball and OB are the same penalty. Add 1 and reload or (under E5) lateral drop in the fairway and add 2.
