Once again Lydia bogied one of the par 5's, and had no birdies on the other 3. Either her distance control was waaaaay off, or her caddie a) is giving her the wrong distances, and/or b) can't adjust for the winds. Ariya and Pernilla seemed to be hitting them close, so no excuse for the poor distance control. I think it's time for a new caddie.

 

Sung Hyun seems to struggle in windy conditions.

Take a look at today's forecast here in North Texas for my 12;30 tee time.

Windy with a mix of clouds and sun. High near 80F. Winds S at 25 to 35 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 50 mph.

Actually, Pernilla looked much speedier yesterday. I timed one tee shot on a par 3 at 40 seconds. Not quick, but acceptable. On a few other shots she backed away after addressing the ball.

I think everybody was taking a little bit extra time yesterday, the par 3's always seemed to be backed up by a group. Brooke who is usually a quick player was pretty slow working out the yardages from the fairway in the wind and with reading her putts on the green.

 

I also find SHP to be not very good in the wind but I respect the fact she playing the windy events trying to improve her overall game and not taking it off to protect her ranking .................. or I'm completely wrong and she's just getting a big check from the sponsor lol

It was playing extremely slow yesterday. I was with the Choi/Recari/Phatlum group and we finished in just over 5 hours. Everyone was taking a little extra time due to the wind.

 

On the 14th green which is the highest point on the course all were on the green in regulation with reasonable attempts at birdies, and all three walked off with bogeys.

 

Choi and Recari never got anything going and finished +1 and +2 respectively. Phatlum had it -4 after the 8th hole, but successive bogeys on 9 and 10 took the air out of her game and never got it back.

 

I'll be back out there tomorrow (had a previous engagement today). From what I heard, they will be running twosomes off one tee. So it makes for a very long day for some of the volunteers.

I walked with Lydia during the Pro Am on Tuesday. I asked if she was still getting taller, she said she had stopped. She does look a lot slender. I'm 5'11 and she is probably no shorter than 4 inches than me. I also asked her if she is still in contact with her old coach in New Zealand, she said from time to time.

I followed the Lydia/Ariya/Pernilla group today. Perilla was all over the hole with her approach shots, was just on another level today compared to Ariya and Lydia. It's still absurd how long Ariya is off the tee without a driver. Sad to watch what's happened to Lydia's short game.. she's not as great off the tee as she should be but her poor short game makes it a whole lot worse. Felt like she only really "holed" one putt today, but that was the putt that got her inside the (likely) cut line, so I guess that's okay.

Jeez, Pornanong. Starts Round 1 4-under thru 7 holes and is now 7-over halfway through Round 3 having not made a birdie since. That has to feel awful.
