We go to the bitter end. Last year I got a round in on Nov 1st or 2nd.....literally snowed 30mins after the round.

I'll get in just over 90 recorded rounds (don't count fun rounds with my daughter). A good year for me, granted don't think our weather could've been much better this year.

Not too long before ski season starts!
Anybody still playing? Most of the courses around Edmonton have punched greens, etc. but I snuck out yesterday afternoon and played down at Red Tail. I was basically the only one on the course, played 18 in about 2 hours. Greens were punched and not rolling very good, but who cares. I like sneaking in these last few rounds in the fall. Might be my last game here for this season, but I am off to Phoenix in November so I have that to look forward to. Finished with 85 rounds this year, down a little bit over previous seasons, but still pretty good. Have a good winter, time to cheer for the woeful Oilers...
Hey Mike

Have the ranch booked for sunday, they haven't punched the greens yet,

played till the 25th last year, hope to at least go that long

Played my 107th at Alberta Springs yesterday, no reduced rate g/f = $65.00/walking, we had the 3rd t-time but due to frost delay we didn't start until 11:30. The fairways were punched & the plugs were picked up in the process so no issues, they must of vacuumed up the leaves, no lost balls as a result and their greens were lightning-quick, which cost me strokes, just couldn't get the pace right, shot 82. Pro Shop said they plan to be open for as long as possible, they do a shotgun start at noon on the weekend, may go back on Saturday, forecast is 18C.

Cheers

Went for a flight with a buddy today, took a couple pic's of a few golf courses, most are closed, but some look like a nice track from 1500 feet.

If you're looking for a great deal on a membership you have to consider the deal Inglewood has on now. Down to $5,000 to join from $7,000 but right now first years dues are waived so basically down to $2,000 to join. I've heard they are offering 50 memberships at this price and have already sold close to half of them.

I'm sure if you wait a little longer with oil so low you'll be able to get an even better deal

It will be interesting to see the impact that this downturn has on golf in Alberta . I had some conversations with a person involved in the management side of things recently and he said the big corporate groups that used to show up and drop thousands between golf food beverages pro shop spending had dried up substantially.this was referring to last year.

Lots of folks out of work means less to spend on the game.courses will have to come up with creative ways to entice people to play.having said that there are still the diehards that will golf as much as they can.myself included.not sure what profit margins are for golf courses but when I look up annual memberships at a course like shadow mountain and compare it to annuals in Calgary for example there is a huge difference.perhaps it's unfair to compare the two.ive noticed some of the guys I have regularly played with over the years played less frequently last year, and our annual golf excursion to BC has lost a few members.

Corporate tournaments have been a huge revenue source at Calgary area courses.not a pessimist however 25% last year will look good come June July .my bud and I golfed at a course last year with two equity members and I was unaware it was an equity course.during the round one member mentioned that his bud recently sold.purchased for nearly 16000,sold for 6000of which the course kept 2000.not a real strong investment.calgary hasn't seen a slowdown of these proportions in decades and all sectors will feel the pinch(golf included).golf for the player is exactly that golf but courses are businesses and as I said in the earlier post it will be an interesting upcoming season.i know that for some of my friends golf has priced itself out of their range, even municipal courses are60$ plus for green fees .business models change to reflect economic realities and for courses to weather this storm their models will have to adapt to these realities . If that means lowered green fees to bring patrons back perhaps that's a road they will have to go down.ive got a friend of mine that was looking for a course wth annual for his wife and him.he had a budget of 5000 for the season.guess how much luck he had finding one in Calgary .i sometimes envy our southern neighbours for year long golf seasons and selection of courses at their disposal in attractive price ranges.they golf in February while I post about it.lol

In Edmonton it's not even worth it to get a membership anywhere, you can get to over 25 courses within an hours drive depending where you live. Even Golden Bear is public

Hahaha TPC Fox Hollow will never get old, that's crazy that they are going to give er a go.

I've been hit by a drive on the 4th hole coming from who knows where, and stung by a killer wasp on the 2nd hole while chipping in. Love the TPC Fox...still have the scar to remind me of the enjoyable experience.

I have to give credit to Wes, the assistant in the shop at Fox for the TPC! Great guy with a good sense of humour! Play with the boys in the shop twice a month. We go early though, as in first off. Any later and you need a helmet out there.

Wes has some of the funniest stories from working there for 5 years. He literally has to remove people from the course or call the police on regular basis. I have 2 funny pics somewhere in my phone from him in the same week. One was a cart stuck in a bunker that had to be puller out with a tractor, the other was a cart in Nose Creek just left of the 15th tee box.

Oh TPC Fox... It's a love hate relationship for this guy!

Played tpc fox today. Forgot my hammer and helmet. Packed out there, was fun. Never played it when all the vip courses open.

Golf in yyc is ridiculously priced. Some people who work in industry have already heard rumblings of substantial drops at tills. I don't know how these courses are going to sustain themselves in a poor economy if they don't offer fair fees. The private courses are gonna be hurting. Alot of people are trying to unload equity memberships and are having tough times. There was a rumor priddis was looking at semi private as they had some concerns. The o&g money is ot there anymore.

Better value can be found an hour away from yyc, some of these courses better price themselves accordingly
