Removing Finish off TaylorMade Wedges

Anybody know if and what may take the finish off the new Taylormade black milled grind wedges?

CLR and elbow grease

Did mine with vinegar and a scotch brite pad

CLR and Sandpaper did the trick on my Black Ox SM6's.

 

-45 mins in CLR bath

-Rinse w/water and sand

-Back into CLR for 30 mins

-Sand to desired look.

 

Be sure to sand with the grain.

 

I found that the wedges don't rust as fast when you sand them down to a shine. All depends on your preference.

The top is factory black finish, second is the black finish I stripped, third one is a tour raw head and bottom one is the retail chrome head.

Just wanted to show the difference

How did you deal with the face? Any pics? I always worry about losing the fine micro-texture whenever heads require elbow grease to remove the prior finish.

Well you will lose that micro texture in the first bunker you hit out of anyway

Find an industrial ammonia cleaner and soak them. The ammonia will dissolve the copper but won't touch the base metal.

It shouldn’t take much to remove the hi toe finish. That wedge comes with the rust warning sticker like the black. The sole and bottom of the face of mine was raw with one practice session in the bunker. Might be as simple as CLR.

I used to remove the honey dipped finish of original California with naval jelly. Will this remove the finish of the hi-toe?

Well

I bought a half gallon of ammonia.

Sat my 54 & 58 completely submerged.. for nine hours.

Result......nothing!

No change

I've used Naval Jelly Rust Remover to take finishes off wedges before, works great. Just spead some on the head, let it sit 5-10 minutes, brush and wash it off, repeat 1-2 more times. What finish do you have? You can only remove the antique bronze or black finish. Chrome can only be removed by a metal shop; it removes the finish, but I don't think they look great.
