Maltby TS2

I agree. Beveled or rounded goes a long toward hiding a thick top line.

Built my 6iron TS1 and TS2 (recoil 660 F3), as stated above the topline is a major difference. I certainly like the look of the TS1 more coming from the DBM most recently. Have a bad case of the shanks, so I need to iron that out before deciding, but so far leaning towards the TS1. TS2 is 5-10 yards longer for me, 170 carry TS1 and 180 carry TS2 -simulated with skytrak.

Anyone have the FGT wedges? I was thinking that would go well shape/cosmetics with the TS1/TS2 set. I would probably get a 52 and bend to 54.

how do you find the performance of the TS1 and TS2 compared to the DBM's? I am using the DBM's at the moment and I like them a lot - I wouldn't want anything less forgiving than the DBM's, especially on hits out of the toe. what is your handicap BTW?

So, this just happened...

In my youth I got down to a 1.5 index. Lowest round was a 68, which I've done once. I have a few 69's. I've broken par twice in the last 8 years, the last time with a 69 in 2015. Most of the time I'm happy with something in the high 70's and I put plenty up in the low 80's.

Today I jumped out in between rain systems with my TS-2's and shot a career best 67.

Six birdies, one bogey. Four of the birdies were from iron approaches. One was a bunker hole out. The other was a par 5 that was driver/3W/wedge. I took a photo of the first close approach shot and ended up taking one of each approach that resulted in a birdie.

I have to say that the feel, sound, trajectory, turf interaction and overall performance of the TS-2 is top notch. Really top notch. The topline is literally it's only negative and I just don't care anymore. The DG105/TS-2 combination is just perfect. The only club design that can rival it for turf interaction is the Srixon series. I'm in love. Please, please, please don't be a honeymoon.

I have found out in the toe to be forgiven in ways that that they should have not been. I had hit my fare share and befor elooking up figured I was screwed and still found the green. My toe miss on the DBMs was high right ,going right

Always said if someone made a SGI blade'ish iron, I would be interested. Questions asked, threads read. The time for over-analysis is over. A decision made. Influenced by a set of "like new" TS-1 heads showing up on the Bay, combined with a 15% flash sale discount, helped grease the wheels. So these are on the way. Looking forward to shafting them up and hitting some balls. If I can play them half as well as the rest of you guys, I'll be more than happy.

I dislike making an implement(s) decision based on internet chatter. But this thread has made a rather compelling argument in favor of either the TS-2 or TS-1. Will spend some time with them before adjusted to my preferred upright lie. I like to wait until I can hit balls off grass (watch ball flights, check divots) before making any adjustments to lies. Unfortunately, it's going to be awhile until they see any live action off turf. So indoors will have to suffice for the time being.

Popeye. Not 100% sure yet. Have XP 95's on hand. Have been evaluating ULW (~ 73 g) graphites. As a senior, finding them quite acceptable. Easy to swing, still controllable. Recently acquired some oldies on the cheap. Grafalloy ProLaunch Red Axis. They seem quite solid, mid-launch, a firmer tip than typical in this weight range. Just because they're an older design doesn't make them obsolete. And for appx $11.00 per, a bargain. I'm taller with shortish arms, so build to a longer length. The TS-1's should SW ~ D 3.5, based on head weight similarities to the TE.

I do not have the luxury of a launch monitor, without paying substantial for the privilege. Strictly a DIY'er of trail and error, observing results. Sensing how they feel. Nor am I good enough to pay substantially for shafts that do not offer a significant real world improvement. But part of golf that I enjoy is futzing around experimenting with golf clubs, see how I can make them perform. Likely install one of each in the 7 & 8 iron and perform some testing over the winter. Even if it's only off mats.

The TS-1's are now in hand. They're absolute stunners!! Better aesthetically than any OEM heads I've seen in a very long time. Clean, simple, non-garrish. Optimistic that they will perform as good as they look moving forward. If not, pointing fingers at everyone in this thread. :blind:

Yes and Yes. The Grafalloy Red Axis is a winner. Played it in driver and fairways for years, still have it in a Callaway Razr X Black 4 wood that is still a great stick. Enjoy!

As for the TS1, absolutely among the very best looking irons released in 2018. Eager to hear how they play.

Was able to get 22 holes in this afternoon before the rain starts and sets us back again. I hit all my TS2s today and am just thoroughly enjoying golf with them. Not only am I hitting more greens but I’m finding myself closer to the pin which has increased my putts made. If I could reign in the driver I could be shooting the best scores I’ve ever shot.

Got out again today in between rainy days. Hit 14 greens and shot 71. Greens were bumpy so it was harder to make putts compared to last week.

That’s my two best rounds of 2018, back to back, with the new irons in the bag.

That's impressive for very early results. I imagine once you really get dialed in how well you will play.

We've been looking for a weather window at Bandon and it looks like these might get a trial by fire Fri/Sat, 36 holes a day for two days. Keeping fingers crossed that the forecast holds. Will be my first trip there.

Played every course there a year ago. It is fantastic. Listen to the caddies. A lot of backstops in the green complexes make it even more fun.

After finding this thread I bought a 5 and 8 iron head in the TS-1. Took them out for a side by side after assembling with project x. Felt pretty amazing.

Has anyone tried bending the lofts to something a bit more traditional? Based on performance of the 5 and 8 they have a little more juice than my current sticks and I’m worried it would leave some weird gapping in the top and bottom of the bag. Was thinking to have them bent based on a 46* pw with 4* gaps.

I've read through the entire thread and am very intrigued with the TS2. There have been a ton of references to the TE/DBM, which I currently play. Would the TS2 offer any significant forgiveness over my current set of TEs? I like all of the references to "it just wants to go straight", but I'm not sure if that is only in reference to the TS1? The top line of the TS2 is dramatically bigger than the TE, which makes me think there is some design consideration there.

Ok so sooner than expected - shafted up my TS-2.

4 iron head, picked and bent to 18*, 39” TT S300, Midsize MCC+4

Hit 10 shots on GC2, what a club. 215 carry 235-250 with roll. Perfect penetrating flight. Exactly what I was looking for as Im trying to sort out the top of my bag. Hello Mr. 2 iron. Can’t wait to get it out on a course.

The gap wedge is 49.5°. If you wanted 4° gaps at the top of the bag two wedges at 54 and 58 then call it a day.

I found that it was the TS-2 that simply wanted to go straight. It's not that the TS-1 was vastly different. It's hard to describe the level of confidence the 2 seemed to give me. As a life long blade, thin top line player,, the thick top line vanished when I was hitting green after green. The TS-1 is a great club and is the club I'm spending the winter in the simulator with but that's just to tinker with.

My feelings on the two clubs are as such. If you feel as if you need some help with your game and use a lot of the club face the 2 is a great club for you. If you are more of a player go with the 1. I played the 2s all season long and I'm at 0.6 handicap at the end of the year. It's the best year of golf I have had in a long time. The level of consistency has been game changing. I'm a better putting stroke away from a solid + handicap golfer. With my work schedule at sea I work two weeks and I'm home two weeks so I show up to the course with out swinging a club at a ball for over two weeks. That extra level of forgiveness even if it's a mental thing with the 2s made a huge difference this season.

Yea when struck well it just feels fantastic. I only put about 10 swings on it and hit close enough to the sweet spot most times, nothing too wild so can't comment on forgiveness. I hope to put it in play in January after the holidays so I'll keep reporting back. I'm still struggling through a big swing change so big open clubface slice is still a problem (not the clubs fault), but I am excited to keep giving this bad boy a swing.

I’ll back this up.

Normally I would pick the TS-1 for its “player’s” look and thinner top line. In addition to Popeye’s invaluable feedback, the main characteristics of the TS-1 design that had me go with the TS-2’s were that the lower COG and slightly less loft produces a higher ball flight. This was supported by Popeye’s testing. Normally a “player’s” design would have a design supporting a lower flight than a “game improvement” companion design. I’m already a high ball hitter. That, and the slightly wider sole for soft PNW conditions and Popeye’s experience with hitting greens sealed the deal.

I’m still drawn to the TS-1 for their looks, but there is no denying my results with the TS-2’s.

Any issue at all in your short irons? You went all TS-2 correct? I have been considering a split set with TS-1 in 8-PW. Your experience has me thinking....

All TS-2, no issues at all.

Turf interaction was perfect, spin was perfect, they flew great on the windy second day flighting it lower or launch it high. Short irons were great.
