Maltby TS2

ode1. Not sure how far back you go with Maltby but they used to have some incredible driver options. Their CT250 line was as good as anything available. My Brother still has one in play and nothing can knock it out of his bag. They have a new driver head in the works and I hope it's another bomber. I used to spend a lot of time at the range and people watching me hit shot after shot would ask what I was hitting. I always had two or three in the trunk and sold at least one driver a week.

IMO that was the golden age of components, lots of really good designs out there, Golfsmith included. CT 250, had the original and FC version too. GS and the original HiCor were $,/and a few of the Snake Eyes offerings were pretty good, with my personal fav being the Python XL. For me that was an amazing driver, could not believe how forgiving it was. With drivers stretching out even more, multi material designs, weight tracks, and especially the adapters, I don't think the component designers can compete in that market. It doesn't help that last years OEM,s are dirt cheap in many instances, not to mention a good used market. The drivers today are far from traditional looking. Not so with irons, so IMO easier to compete with a simple cast cavity back or forged iron. Its weird how many golfers want traditional in irons but that matters less with drivers. Maybe there is a niche market available for components but I don't know, it would have to be something really special. The designs today/OEM are so different than the ct250/HiCor, that I don't think they/components can compete at a price point that makes sense, but I hope to be proven wrong.

From one of the Wishon threads I here they are coming out with a slightly smaller head ~ 440cc....I think there is room for something like that, especially with their bendable hosel design. That might suit a lot of the traditionalists, who want to make a shorter driver and not to look down at a streched out head.

ode1. Back when I was moving a lot of components I was hitting it steady 295. Drivers are a sexy item that grabs all the headlines. I would sell 10 drivers for every one set of irons. Since I busted my last CT250 it has been all Callaway save for a brief Cobra stint. I hope they have a great release and I can have an all component bag again. Playing today I still get the ball out there till that college punk steps up and airmails my drive. But that's always the first question someone asks me when I'm playing.. what driver is that....

Took advantage of the free shipping and pulled the trigger on the DG 105 pak for the TS-2.

So true....I've mostly played with guys who know nothing about equipment or component guys, so they don't come in with the OEM only attitude, but their are a few guys I play with or the occasional random grouping that are and show an interest in my setup after a bombed drive or a good shot. That look when they say something like "never heard of that", when looking at my driver or other gear. Priceless!

This order is going to be a race against the weather because we're on watch for an impromptu Bandon Dunes trip. That would be a good test for a new set of irons. :)

I sold a ton of the CT 250. It was better than anything especially when I could put a good shaft in it.. I keep wondering if they are going to come out with a newer driver.

This spring they are supposed to offer a new driver with some sort of brand new construction method. They have been very stealthy on this one just like the TS line so I really hope its special again.

Spent some time on the simulator. This time had some of the silver dots on the ball and the spin numbers were more in line to what they should be.

I had the Paderson Kinetix TS-1 shaft in a 6 iron TS-2 head and the dispersion blew me away. I did struggle a bit with distance control because I am just not used to the light weight shaft. I believe the playing weight is low 80s. The feel of the Paderson is amazing. Just so so smooth. Smoother than say a Nippon 950. It wasnt a huge jump in distance but it definitely is a half club.

First two pictures were of the 6 iron. That kind of dispersion with a 6 iron is silly good. Two just leaked a little bit.

What was very interesting was the MMB black 7 iron with the Paderson. That club gained near about 3/4 of a club. 176 carry and 185 total with about 5800 spin. I hit a good 15 shots and you can see the dispersion on that one. A lot of shots were right down the middle and a few pulls and some fades but nothing that wouldn't find a green. Paderson shafts are no joke. Would love to hit those outside.. but that might take a few months. I will definitely order a set of those shafts just dont know what I'll put them in. bc9a2eef517e711f9ea30366afcb7e1d.jpge462e2d09f89c3cff65f40bbd64f7906.jpg0a24c308252ec3bb140b22cfa3dbc4c4.jpgda19ddc717e28e3eb73bf4211cc1595b.jpg

^^I’ll take that pattern all day. Popeye, is there any big difference between the Paderson TS1 shafts vs the Paderson IMRT besides the weight? GW offers both. I did read the Padersons play a little stiff to flex but that may not be as true the lighter you go. Did the TS1 feel stable even with its relatively light 83-gram weignt?

I found the shaft to be very stable and even when I felt that I pulled it way off line it still launched surprisingly straight. I'm almost an in between flex of stiff and X but prefer more feel than harshness. So stiffness felt great to me. This shaft felt like it loaded really nice and then just went. My buddy the Pro with insane club head speed sort of struggled with the light weight but still had great results. I myself have not played this light of a shaft in almost two years so I need to get more comfortable with tempo. But I loved how it felt. I couldnt repeat the dispersion with the steel shaft. If the weather warms up I may get to hit these off the turf. I'm praying for the forecast to hold.

I'm anxious to hear how you feel the TS2 compares to the PTM.

I should be able to get them to the range next Friday, assuming they arrive as scheduled on Thursday. Unfortunately we've officially entered the off season so everything is back to mats from grass and the weather doesn't look good for getting them out on the course anytime soon.

I'll take both sets and give my first impressions on the head to head comparison (although shafts will be different going from standard DG S300 to DG 105 X100).

Thanks to Popeye et al I placed my order for a set of heads, 5-PW.

5-7 in the TS2 and 8-PW in the TS1.

The snow has fallen and will probably stay until May, but I couldn’t resist the hype and free shipping.

Gonna put a new set of RIP 115 Stiff Graphites in them

and hit the Academy Driving range over the winter.

Really excited to try these.

Thanks to everyone for their un-biased opinions and experiences with this series of heads.

I truly can’t wait.

Another shot out to Popeye. I ordered TS2 5-PW TS1 GW last week and built them this week with Modus 130 Xs. Hopefully it’ll be dry enough Sunday to get a few holes in. I’ve hit a few pitches in the backyard and they feel great.

Popeye, what are your thoughts on golfworks adjustable driver out now? I'm wondering how it compares spin wise to some drivers on the market now.

Never would I have thought I could have a whole maltby bag next year.

I actually have very little time with those. I went right from a CT250 into a Callaway Big Bertha because I grabbed a demo from a rep for next to nothing. So that is the one Maltby product I dont know very well. When I hit a few that I built they always worked ok, I just never went wow. The few that I did for for guys worked well for them and they had nice solid gains from what they played before hand.

Putting together a set of the TS2. Been a big fan of Maltby.

Really is a nice-looking head. Very clean and elegant

Collared Furrule heads up.

Nearly every one of the collared ferrules have worked their way loose. Just make sure you get some good epoxy on them.

Yep. I've struggled with the collared ferrules with my PTM's, also. Have to give them the wrench/mallet treatment every couple of rounds.

Do you need to use collared ferrules, or could I use any ferrule when I buy these?
You could get away with any ferrule. I think because of their design you need to have them further up the shaft and get epoxy under them and then slide them down to the head during initial glue up. I'll find out if there is any preferred process for setting these collered ferrules up.

The best tool for repositioning a ferrule is one of those rubber shaft clamps that come in grip kits.
I'm not talking about getting them back in place. I'm talking about the initial install. I've been building clubs for 20 years. These have failed at 90% so far. Now that I know they are prone I'll do them differently with epoxy when setting them. Unless someone has some other kind of fix.

I haven't had an issue yet. Is it the same ferrule as the one recommended for the TS-1? I sand the inside of the ferrule and drive into position with the clubhead. While it is usually a press fit I also end up with epoxy filling the area where the collar sets into the hosel. Not sure that could be much different than what you are doing. Maybe you got a defective bunch of ferrules?

Yup, it's the recommended ferrule, I get the dry fit really close and then tap it in place with the head to insure correct depth. I get plenty of epoxy in the top of the hosel. All installs had epoxy that has to be wiped away and all the ferrules had no gaps. Next time I'll get some epoxy on the shaft and then set the ferrule. Then epoxy the head. That should teach those ferrules a lesson.

Not sure why it would be an issue on these and no others for you,.....but you might try a "rat tail file" or a slight "ream" inside the ferrules first before installing, to allow some small areas for epoxy to get in there between it and the shaft. Otherwise, if it's tight....most all the epoxy can push out when we slide it onto the shaft
