KBS Tour vs KBS Tour 90

I’m trying to decide whether to go with the Tour or Tour 90 in a regular flex. For anyone who has hit these, any advice on the difference in feel, trajectory, etc.? I already have a mid to high flight and I know the Tour 90 produces the highest trajectory. How much will the Tour lower my ball flight? There’s also a 15g difference between the two shafts. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

I play the KBS Tour 90 regular flex in both my iron sets - AP2 and MP15. I use the standard KBS Tour in my wedges as I prefer the trajectory and slightly heavier feel, but not nearly as heavy/firm as a DG.

For reference, I previously played KBS C-Taper Lite in R flex in my irons. In my 60s and starting to lose some speed, so I'm really enjoying the lighter weight and livelier feel. While the trajectory is a touch higher, I don't find it unmanageable in any way.

Half the clubs, twice the fun!

I’ve played the Tours on my Srixon 565 and been going thru demo sessions for the MP 18 MB, literally have hit every shafts.

I have high launch and high spin characteristics; figured the lighter the shaft more spin it out on the ball. Don’t discount stiff shafts, I learned that it lowered the spin rate and didn’t change my launch angle.

I was looking at lighter shafts for stamina issues but also learned that I had a threshold on how light I can go before I lost feel; personally, 115 grams was the lowest I could get away with.

I had the tour 90s in my cb3s. Regular Flex.

- Definitely produced a very high flight.

- My tempo is somewhat aggressive and had a tendency to pull my shots

- Actually snapped two of these shafts ( 8 iron and pw)., Never snapped a steel shaft before or after this.

- Plays (imo) soft to flex.

I think these shafts are for the smooth swinger and not for an aggressive transition.

I'm no expert but you might want to go with stiff flex in the tour 90s if you know that the heavier tours in r flex fit you.

Here are a couple of KBS charts which feature the Tour 90 and Tour shafts.

I have hit the KBS Tour 90 shafts in different test clubs, and it depends a lot on the clubhead whether it works or not. In fittings I have gotten recommended for the Tour 90 Stiff, although I play R.flex in my irons. A GI head such as the Tour Edge Exotics CB Pro Tungsten flew well with Tour 90, without ballooning the ball.

Three years ago the Mizuno rep visit to our local golf shop. He did the Swing DNA test on me, and the Tour Stiff softstepped was the top-recommended shaft. A bit confusing, because I had a right ankle sprain and was not that aggressive on stepthrough.

Right now, I play the Tour R-flex wedge shaft (110 grams) in my PW and SW, and may reshaft my LW with the same.

Bottom line: Get fitted. That will give you data to work with.

Personally, I found that heavier shafts help my tempo. I don't find myself yanking the club in any direction too much with a heavier shaft.

This is exactly what happened when I tried to go to an lighter shaft (Modus 105), I was totally lost for a month and decided to switch back to the KBS Tour that I was playing before.

@GeorgiaLefty - to confuse the matter even more, there's a KBS Tour 105 option that fits between these 2 shafts your considering.

So modus 105 vs kbs tour.....what flex? If stiff that can be a huge difference in weight even though kbs tour is slightly counterbalanced to make them swing easier...

A good compromise would be the C-taper Lite. Regular flex weighs in at 105g and they are mid height launch. I recently got them in some P790’s and love the feel and consistency. I had previously used 115g stiff Ping JZ shafts and as great as those shafts are, I like the KBS even better. For reference, my 6i club head speed is 89-90.

So why not the KBS Tour-V? its profile is in between the other 2. I play the V-spec, and find it a little tighter than the 90. Lower BF and feels firmer, but gets good SS due to the lighter weight than the tour. Its like the best of both worlds. Lightweight for higher SS without forgiving stiffness and dispersion like most 105-110g offerings.

KBS Tour Reg is 110 gm, Tour 90 stiff is 102. The Tour90 Stiff is softer than the Tour Reg and would be the next step down. . Tour 90 reg is much softer. You should try them. They feel different.

Step patteren is the same. Weight is adjusted by wall thickness and as such makes them play softer and higher flight. Think weight not flex
