Unless I can be convinced otherwise, you're a 0.0 Sterling "Shot-72-or-73-with-six-birdies-and-two-doubles-at-Little-B-having-never-played-there-before-and-with-a-bathroom-emergency" 247.

and here i was hoping to get 4 or 5 a side

I say you and City go as zeros and we base everything else off that.

That's fine, i haven't played since then so i'm gonna try and hit some balls tonight

I'll just have to keep an eye on who's stroking and keep that in mind

Fourballs are 100% of handicap.

I'm not convinced the game is broken in it's current format at all. 2MT argued with me that it was a huge advantage for anybody to get strokes in the game. I mean, maybe on occasion it is. Sure Domes was at an advantage, being able to call it in the air when he hit a good drive on 9. He still very likely had complete one of the toughest holes on the course in 3 strokes from there to get a win. He hit a sick iron shot to like 10ft with all that pressure.

On the whole, isn't the better golfer always at the advantage though? I guess it's just in a game like this one, a single hole can have such a massive impact on the outcome. Although it was really only such a huge windfall because of the carryovers, not because of the single hole being 4x.

The way I played wolf when I learned it

solo before hitting - 4x

solo after hitting - 3x

solo after everybody has hit - 2x

That essentially eliminates the 4x multiplier from the game, save for the occasional degenerate gambler that gets way behind and can't help but chase their losses.

I wouldn't let one data point of Domes cleaning up on the 9th at Waverly make you tweak the core points breakdown of the game. Keep playing it as it is for a little, and see what shakes out.

This is a big thing.

I would propose it being an official AirWolf rule that if you are getting a stroke, you need to announce it on the tee box before anyone hits otherwise you lose that stroke.

When I cleared 24 dots on #9, PQ and Fabb were both in front of me in the fairway and missed the green by a combined 40 yards.

Maybe City shouldn't have bladed a wedge over the 8th green if he didn't want to lose 24 dots on #9.

HEY!

Quit selling me short. I missed that green by 40 yards all by myself.

no jokes about "watching who's stroking and keeping that in mind?" just me? ok, i'm fine with that.

sans incentive, i will would undoubtedly forget a minimum of 2x per round, so i'm in favor of it.

Ratified. It's official.

fabb, thinking to himself: be sure to remind those guys to update the google doc!

fabb, a second later, shaking his head: no one will do it but me, so i might as well just do it before these jerkyboys forget and then we have to have this same discussion multiple times in the future. le sigh.

if i'm getting 4 strokes in a match my chances of winning those four holes are obviously tremendously elevated. in a match where all the holes are of equal value that doesn't matter. in the case of domes he get to make the hole worth FOUR times as much after he saw where his ball was going!!! strokes are a MASSIVE problem in airwolf. The junk doesn't even come close to evening it out considering that junk is team junk.

Here's another explanation of why it's such a problem:

What is domes % of LOSING that hole? Either he makes worse than bogey OR one of the other three make birdie or better. Assign probabilities to it

Now if it's FABB, City, PQ. What is there % of LOSING that hole? Either they make bogey OR one of the other three make birdie or better. Assign probabilities to it.

It's quite clear that FABB, City, PQ take a much much much higher risk if they airwolf.

I wouldn't let one data point of Domes cleaning up on the 9th at Waverly make you tweak the core points breakdown of the game. Keep playing it as it is for a little, and see what shakes out.

No. Eagle or Domes just pick up such massive massive equity going airwolf when they stroke that in the long run they have a huge financial edge. I don't think it's even close. That said, they may lose those holes and everyone convinces themselves it's not a problem. You need to think about this in terms of equity and not in terms of results.

No, I don't need to think about it in terms of equity. I'm thinking about it in terms of enjoyment, which is what matters. It's not perfect, but at the end of the day we're looking for a fun game we can play with anybody. That means having strokes.

We wouldn't be having this wonderful internet discussion, recounting Domes heroic performance on that hole if not for strokes. We played for like $.25/dot that day. That's $6/person loss. For a fun game, and a perfect storm event that isn't going to happen often, do I feel even an ounce of butthurt for having to pay Domes $6 for a well executed hole? No.

The strokes make it a fun game for everybody. The carry overs make it a fun game for everybody. As long as the dot value doesn't get too high, nobody is losing big at the end of the day.

It may be stupid, but it's fun. It's more fun than playing a handicapped fourball.

I don't have a roster of playing partners I can pull from to have a full foursome that can be played at scratch all the time. Something handicapped is necessary more often than not.

I also don't have any interest in playing any handicapped game for big money. That sounds much stupider than finding something that is fun, despite the low financial implications.
