Worn down is a good way to put it. Our last mens league event we didnt play it and it was just miserable.

 

Dealing with a mud ball every now and then throughout the year, that happens. I think that you *should* have to learn how to deal with it. But its happened so much this year, it just gets exhausting after a while. There's nothing fun about that.

 

I like LCR, that seems like the best of both worlds.

There was mud on my ball after literally every shot at gunpowder. Tee balls and approaches. I was really struggling with it actually. It was a hit 4 balls a hole practice round, and the ball washer rags looked even less trustworthy than the one I disgraced in Orlando. I need to throw my towels on my bag in the wash after yesterday.

Here's the recap, with the big course matches listed. These are the caps, not official strokes, but Gunpowder is sloped 110 from the tips, so it's probably what the strokes are.

 

edit: edited since singles aren't decided yet. As Nerf said, strokes are half of this since we are playing 9-hole matches.

We're not set on big course matches yet.

 

We're trying to minimize the giving of strokes on the Chip n Putt. or, if we can't minimize the strokes, at least make the matches "equally lopsided". Overall, smalls are lower-capped, so it's sort of an advantage to us.

That's actually a pretty good number.

 

I pulled it out of my butt, but I tried to justify a posteriori you look at where "good amateurs" gain strokes on "bad amateurs" (e..g here), only about 1/3rd of those strokes come from the short game.

I have a feeling that after last year, there were "behind the scenes" rumblings that Talls started thinking the game was rigged. Like somehow the "twist" tilted the scales or the CnP was so out of whack that the Talls had a disadvantage.

 

That's why this year I've been working in tandem with a talls captain and considering strokes on CnP.

 

I might go back to being a dictator in the future, but I was open to more input this year. The ever-changing nature of this event is part of its appeal.

The Smalls have won in blowouts the last two years, but the pitch-and-putt is the only thing that's flipped. The Smalls took down the handicapped matches handily in both.

 

In 2017, smalls won the big course singles 7.5-2.5, and the PNP 7-3

In 2016, smalls won the big course singles 8.5-3.5, but lost the PNP 5.5-6.5

They were all crushing it, saying its going to be a giant flop. Especially given that neither of them will exactly be dialing in their game the day after Thanksgiving.

And there's no new movie releases I want to see.

 

And, I just found a 100 dollar bill on the sidewalk.

I can see myself in a similar situation. Especially if I'm home and can talk my dad into watching. $12.50 for four hours of entertainment if the weather in Pittsburgh sucks....might be a yes.

I get a little outrage because it's foreign. Golf just isn't on PPV. But separate from that, the price is fine. People are paying $65 to watch a regular 20 minute UFC fight. I know they get some other fights, but they aren't paying for anything but the main event. Mayweather/McGregor was $100, which isn't going to last an hour even if it goes all 12 rounds. It's $6 on-demand to rent a movie that was in theaters months ago, and you have DC saying it would be a "tough sell" at $5? Give me a break. It's not the cheapest way to entertain yourself for 4 hours, but it's not out of line with things most of us would spend for normal entertainment.

Thing is. . .I'm actually not that excited for the match. It's going to have to have side-bets, mic'ed up players, GOOD announcers. Two guys playing a match that could be over on the 13th hole could be a very dull slog. And Phil isn't really "funny". He's "sports funny". We better get every word spoken between players and caddies without bleeps.

 

You know. . .I was just thinking about what I'd REALLY like to see.

I think someone mentioned it on here, but what I would 100% pay $25 dollars for is a game of Airwolf with JT, Rory, Tiger and DJ. If they even took it somewhat serious, would be amazing TV.

Phil hasnt played well in months, this match could be over after 12 holes. I think people are assuming its going to be great because they are hoping Phil and Tiger will be cursing at each other in between shots or Tiger will be telling dirty jokes that he's "famous for". There are still going to be VIPs along for the ride, there will still be fans there, I just cant see that.

 

Bleacher Report better have some great announcers because in a two person match play - on a course with some long transfers when walking - there will be so much downtime.

 

I was initially interested in HBO doing one of their 24/7 shows on this like they do for boxing matches but I havent seen anything about that in the last month or so.

That would be better than 900 televised stroke play tournaments each year.
