MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

I also don't have any interest in playing any handicapped game for big money. That sounds much stupider than finding something that is fun, despite the low financial implications.

I strongly agree with this. From all the times i've played Wolf, i cant remember anyone that got way down...unless you want to take on the world every time you have the opportunity but if that's the case then you deserve it

All about your comfort level.

I once wore a fútbol Jersey that said Bimbo and used strips of tape to signify the scalps taken from vanquished opponents.

It was a good look.

Ah, my first 7's and we were paired together. We made magic that day and many scalps were taken.

Good times, good times!

No, I don't need to think about it in terms of equity. I'm thinking about it in terms of enjoyment, which is what matters. It's not perfect, but at the end of the day we're looking for a fun game we can play with anybody. That means having strokes.

it's not a question of strokes or no strokes. It's a question of full handicaps or getting cut.

Even on a hole where a guy isn't getting strokes alone, there's a big advantage when he's teamed up with another guy who is.

Consider

(me & Sterling) vs (Domes & Eagle)

On a hole where there are no strokes, we have a slight advantage.

On a hole where they are both stroking, they have a huge advantage.

On a normal, mid-tough hole, the probability of at least one of them making GROSS par or better is roughly 75%. (giving each of them a 50% chance of making par, being as they're roughly 9 handicaps).

Even if Sterling and I are 15% to make birdie on any given hole, when we're teamed up, there's still a (roughly) 72% chance that we won't make a birdie; combined with their chances of making par or better, we're barely better than 50-50 to win a hole with no strokes. I'm be a little loose with the math here, but I think that's all in the ballpark.

So, there's that, COMBINED with the ability to double down (lone wolf) that SEEMS like it should make it tough for the guys giving strokes. For instance. Domes hits one down the middle. He's going to pick Eagle on a hole they're both stroking UNLESS Eagle hits one OB. If he does, then Domes has an easy option to go lone wolf.

Now, in REALITY, it's never been that lopsided. For one, some people don't seem entirely thoughtful about strokes and partners. For two, junk does mitigate some effects.

I don't really care getting into a golf game taking the worst of it. It's just golf action. . .it's not like I'm sitting at a slot machine for 4 hours straight.

I know you weren't talking strokes vs. no strokes. 2MT was.

I agree with just about everything you've said as well, especially the last paragraph. The game just feels equitable enough, that the enjoyment outweighs any amount of advantage or disadvantage still exists.

I think folks are getting a little too hung up on that one time Domes won 24 dots on a single hole. We're talking about a game where 3 guys played scratch, one guy close in ability level got a couple strokes, 2 holes (including an AirWolf) carried over to a difficult par 4 where the one guy just happened to carry over to a difficult par 4 where the lone stroke-getter was leading off, and he played it expertly en route to a par. I feel like the stars aligned a little bit more than we're giving credit.

On the whole, as in any handicapped game, the lower caps should be at an advantage. Junk going to the team negates it a bit, but the junk should generally favor the lower caps. The lower caps should be more consistent, and be picked to go on the winning team most often.

You're a low handicap, playing some really nice, consistent golf. Have you not come out on top or second to top every time you've played AirWolf, or the wacky 3 man wolf-like game over the past few months?

NLU just posted a podcast with ggswingtips (George Gankas). The golf social media stars are aligning.

Speaking of NLU, for no good reason, I never really want everyone knowing my twitter account, but I need to share this. You'll know it when you see it.

If you follow me, I'll probably block you. I don't need anyone to see me complaining to youTubeTV or arguing about movies anymore than they get here.

NLU and GG were two recent unfollows for me. It still baffles me that DJP puts out such great stuff under the Golfers Journal accounts and then some of the slosh that gets thrown into the NLU bucket.

Domes prison jumpsuit is the GOAT. It's the outfit that started it all, right? Standing in the shop at G-Pow, seeing Domes running by in a prison jumpsuit out the window is a memory burned into my head forever.

Jos. A. Domes - also great.

He "took it easy" last year, and wore this.

The talls are still garbage in general, but I gotta put some respek on the man.
