I saw it in the theater. I don't think I ever remember a theater dying so hard for so long as the zipper scene. From the original scream to the visual to "how'd you get the franks above the beans" to "we've got a bleeder".

Another interesting rule change that I haven't heard much talk about is the change to the opposite margin drop. Not everyone knows this, but when you hit into a lateral water hazard, you have the option of dropping on the OTHER side of the lateral water hazard, and taking two club lengths. The new rules say that this has to be specifically allowed by the committee. : The opposite margin drop option will no longer automatically apply to a penalty area marked red. It can only be used on specific red penalty areas where the committee has preauthorised it by local rule. You will find the red penalty areas we declare that have this option on the weekly local rules sheet.

 

This comes into play somewhat frequently on one hole at our course. If you drop "same side", you're often blocked by trees, but if you drop opposite side, you can get a clear look at the green. . .

Anyone play the stadium course at sawgrass? Worth the $500? I have a chance to plat there about a month prior to the Players, so grandstands will be up and course should be in great condition.

That’s more of an “ask yourself is the experience worth it” kind of thing. You’d be playing in special conditions which would make it a cooler experience definitely. You could definitely get some cool pictures. Would you be by yourself or with someone you know?

I played TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course two years ago. I was intimidated and felt like I didn’t belong. It was very expensive (not $500 expensive) and we had a fore caddie and I was just overwhelmed.

 

Went across the street after and played the second rate TPC Champions course after for $90 bucks on a cart and had a much better time.

 

I know Sawgrass has that secondary course as well. I think it’s called Dyes valley or something.

Everything I've heard about it has sounded awesome to me and certainly walking it during the Players practice round a couple years ago didnt change my mind. My old coach teaches there now if you want to get a lesson in while you're there lol.

Ramon noodles are pretty cheap! Yea, will be badass to play sawgrass and Pinehurst within the same month. And after playing Punta Espada last week, great winter golf season.

A few years ago I played Pinehurst #2 and Torrey Pines South within a few weeks of each other. Pocketbook took a bit of a hit, but definitely worth it. Would bang again. That's when I was living the SINK life, but I'd do it again now.

 

You don't get that many opportunities to play some of these places in your life. I'll go back to Pinehurst again, but it could be that I never go to San Diego again. I don't see any reason I'll be in Jacksonville in my life, but if I am then Sawgrass will be on my to-do list. Gotta do it while you can. There are plenty of people for which $500 is an out-of-reach sum that they shouldn't spend on something as frivolous as golf, but there aren't many of those people on this thread to my knowledge.

5 bills is a lot. I’d probably look at the earliest twilight rate and see if I could finish. That’s what I did for Kapalua, and got the jackpot bonus of playing the last few holes while the sun set on the Pacific, which is one of my favorite golf memories of all time.

 

Note: 1/2 off all TPC courses for Woodmore Members through the PLI connection. That includes Sawgrass. Unlike the purported RTJ reciprocal, this side benefit is actually true.

$500 seems like a lot for that course, and I'm not really one to shy away from dropping money to play golf. I'm probably jaded by my hatred of every Florida golf course I've played (save Streamsong) and a general distrust of Pete Dye tracks (Whistling Straits included).

 

That said, I'd easily drop $500 to play the Ocean Course, so it's probably just my hatred of Florida. And I want to hate Sawgrass because of everything the Tour has done to try to make me love that tournament.

I'm torn on this one. SITK fabb has to be more choosey with splurge rounds than DITK fabb, and sawgrass doesn't get my jimmies ultra tingly. Need more particulars on the scenario.

From what I hear I'd rather do two rounds at Streamsong than that round at TPC Seagrass...

Ben just do it. $500 is a lot but once is enough for you to decide if it is worth it. I played it when it first opened and it has changed a lot. The Pro's did not like the site lines so they raised a number of tee boxes so you could see a least some of the landing areas. They changed about half the putting surfaces from the original contours. Playing these places is generally a one time shot for most people so if you can find any course other then ANGC worth $500 let me know, but I am still paying and playing. Streamsong Red and Blue at worth the money but not the Black.

It's more of a question of what $500 means to you rather than is the course somehow "worth" $500.

 

If I had the chance, I'd also rather pay the fiver if I was playing with 4 friends. Not sure what endless' group is going to look like.

I agree with City,I don't mind spending $500 if playing with friends, I doubt I would spend that much playing with random people.

Yesterday I was going to hit balls after work, but I forgot my clubs. I had to go by the club for something else, so I got a demo club from the pro.

 

917 D3, 8.5º with an X-stiff shaft.

 

I bet there are about 3 people at the club who can hit that club effectively. I don't even know why it's in the demo bin.

 

I couldn't get it 20 feet in the air, but I'll tell ya, after some initial slices, I started hitting it straight and it was carrying pretty good and it "felt" low spin. I've been playing with teeing the ball a lot higher, but the range had the rubber tees out and none of them were as high as I wanted to tee that thing.

 

I liked how it looked at the ball more than the Titleist I tried out a couple years ago. Not sure if it was the settings or what, but also, I hate the adjustment system on it.

If it was a special occasion, sure..$500 for a famous course is doable. Although I'd rather pay that money to play Pebble or the Old White+caddie.

 

I've gone to a few charity events in recent years that usually had rounds at an exclusive club up for silent auction. $500 would be easier to stomach once you explain to your wife that it's tax deductible!!
