I'm like Babcock in The Passage.

+1 for the show that no one is watching.

Obligatory "the book was better" comment.

Admittedly, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I like Zack from Saved by the Bell in Wolgast's role. I just think the tone of the show needs to go "darker" quick. I'm only up to Episode 3, and it makes it seem like this top secret bioweapons facility is a Motel 6 with a bad keycard system. I can see the whole Babcock setup is so the show can have a hot female role, but I kind of like the angle it took.

I think the Fanning guy is going to be very good, and I'm interested to see what happens when they flip out to the future and Wolgast/Babcock and most of the characters other than Fanning and Amy sit on the sidelines for a while

Yeah, I knew what I was getting going in. I also like Zack.

I peeked at the Reddit page a couple times. They have episode recaps for people who have read the books. If you want to continue enjoying the show, don't go there. Everyone hates everything.

I, and wife -- who also read it -- are enjoying it. Most of the changes just seem to be "practical" in nature.

Part of my discontent is basically why I don't watch any network tv. . .they're going to do in 10 episodes (or whatever) what they could have done in 5. Still, I'm enjoying it. I look forward to it, unlike True Detective which right now feels like chore to turn on. Haven't even watched this week's ep and these are the only 2 shows I'm watching right now.

I mentioned "Barry" to Q. He started it and thinks it's the best thing he's watched in a long time. I feel same way. I really loved it. That's on HBO.

Fabb, watch Killing Eve and then watch Fleabag on Amazon Prime. They are both written and directed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She also stars in Fleabag. They are both fantastic and very different -- subject matter, tone, pacing, etc. The similarities are basically female leads and female anger and guilt. I would watch anything she's created. FYI - she voiced L3-37 in Solo.

Sawgrass.

Amazing day. Showed up way early, wondered around the clubhouse for a while. There was some college tourney going on at the Valley course, UNC, Florida State, etc so watched those guys for a bit on the range, impressive. Range, chipped, putted and headed over to 1. Forecaddie was decent, odd dude, tried to hard but the three randos I was paired with were pretty cool. Played from the blues, and hit driver on almost every hole possible. The back tees were closed, so the blues were as far back as I could go, wanted to experience the course as much as the pros play it. The course is still in the growing phase, as they close it two weeks from now. Rough, in godly. Thick, talll as crap, and almost lost two balls while standing on top of them. Played well, couldn’t putt. 37 putts for the day. They were slow considering and couldn’t get that in my head. Course in amazing shape, and amazing weather. You get your first taste of the feel of The Players at 8, bleachers on that hole and 17 is behind it, so a ton of bleachers. I was surprised how much I was able to hit driver, as a lot of narrow landing areas, or areas I was able to cover with a good carry. Shot 86, and was +3 on the back heading into 16. Great drive, 230 out, said F it and went for it in two. Hit a bit left, covered the tree bunker, chipped up and two putted par. Over to 17. Crazy feel, wind picked up it felt and took so many pictures, I forgot I was playing golf. Only played 126, hit gap wedge, Rhône’s it over the green into the drink. Go to the drop are, 80 yards, hit a low half shot, onto the front, pin middle on the top. Drained a 15fter for bogie, happy. 18. Man, that is a hard tee shot!! What seems like a narrow landing area and how much do you want to take on and carrry. tugged the drive left, drop, hit another one into middle of fairway. Hit my second one left, against the bleachers. Not the best way to finish

As I was having a decent round but my brain just went off when I hit 16 green, just taking it all in. Worth the $550?? Maybe just because the bleachers were up, but more like a $300 experience. Wouldn’t take it back though. Very blessed for having the chance to play the course. Pics below. Enjoy.

Cant wait to play hookey tomorrow and get down to Mattaponi, looks like the weather is going to hold through early afternoon.

Hoping if it dries out today its not *as* soggy as its been lately but even if it is - dont really care.

I'm gonna keep giving DC props for posting about Counterpart. I'm absolutely loving that show. Maybe my favorite thing I've watched since Dark, which is returning to 'flix with a new season sometime this year.

I am still really into it, loving the second season so far.

Nice write up and pics, Ben.

I'm not sure -- and I can't puzzle out -- what got auto-corrected to "Rhône's" but I'd like to know what you meant there.

During some golf coverage this weekend, they cut away to TPC where Rory was there practicing. He was saying he'd never seen it so green and thought that it was going to look nice in March.

I saw a preview of a story yesterday of him trying to hit the 17th green - with every club in the bag. Never went back and watched it though.

I watched it.

He only hit the green with 4 clubs. PW, 7 iron, 3W. Maybe 9 iron, too. He was missing the green with gap wedge and lob wedge. I thought he performed horribly compared to my expectations. <-- recollection. It was 3 or 4 clubs. I remember 3-wood.

Awesome writeup Endless, thanks. Its still on my bucketlist of places to play, I honestly had no idea it was that pricey. I think the Marriott runs some packages in the offseason that I'd think about looking at next time I was in Florida. Definitely a place I want to make it around eventually.

So I've never played but I've walked around the 17th area with my old instrcutor - who teaches at Sawgrass now - and I was terrfied by that drop area shot. I know the pros are pros and they should be great at that shot - and I think I work more than the average person on shots/half shots inside 100 yards. But I remember telling him how much I thought the tee shot is so much more inviting than the drop area length/angle.

And I know this sounds weird but I thought the green looked much bigger in person than it does on tv. It doesnt look *big* but to me it definitely seemed larger than what you get off tv.

My wife played Falls Road yesterday. She played a few holes with Marty Johnson, who was the teaching pro at Redgate. He told her that as of December Redgate is KAPUT. Not surprising really. It had been in a death spiral for years. So now he's teaching at some of the MoCo courses (Needwood, Falls Rd, and Poolesville, I think).

She often goes out as a single during the week, since she works part time. And she'll sometimes complain about the guys she gets paired with. Middle aged know it all white guys who are always telling her what to do. Even when they're crappy golfers no better or worse than she is. She wasn't hitting her driver yesterday, and the guy kept telling her she had to. And that guy couldn't get off the tee box half the time. Dude, stay in your lane.

She's not out there to shoot a score. She's out there to enjoy the walk, work on her game and hit some nice shots. Being trained under the Dave Chen school of fast play, she knows when to pick up and move on. And most of the time she can advance her ball without duffing it or blading it all over the place.

mansplaining.

I would encourage her to hit driver more, though. Maybe you whisper it subliminally when shes falling asleep.

Great pics Endless.

It's interesting to me that despite watching the Players for years, I have no idea what most of the course looks like. I think that's just driven by the TV coverage, and the grandstands kind of reflect that as well. Tons of place for people down the stretch of the last few holes, but other holes with no stands and no space for people.

The Masters is a bit like that, where I could rail off all sorts of details about the back 9 but couldn't even tell you what par is on the 3rd hole, never mind what it looks like.

Wow. I played redgate all the time when I lived in Rockville. I bought their annual pass 2 or 3 times. Marty is a good dude.

City is constantly mansplaining to PQ about how he should hit driver more often.

Of course now that he hits the Zubstm as far as I hit my driver, I don't really care.

I tried goading him into driving the first the other day.

The Dave Chen School of Fast Play is now a thing.

Can we get a Windows 10 3D MS Paint poster for the DCSOFP please?

Yup, when I first moved to Maryland I used to play Redgate all the time. It was my go-to course. It wasn't as busy as the MoCo courses so I could walk up and play as a single on a weekend morning. I took lessons from Marty too.

Golf ball rollback debate article in SI.

Nothing really new. They at least talk to Mark Broadie, Richie Hunt, George Gankas about it, so the article wasn't as out of touch as one is used to seeing.

George Gankas was quoted as, "Golf ballios' going like squamdown squishies, bruh."

j/k

Scratching my head at the Branden Grace and Shane Lowry picks. Please explain

Brendan Grace is good at golf and I didn't think many other people would be taking him.

You're in 2nd to last place and you picked a golfer who provides you no opportunity of making up ground on 8 other participants, including the guy in the lead and 3 of the top 5.

It doesn't totally surprise me. I think I had their annual pass in 2012 and 2013. When I first joined, billy Casper had just taken over and it was in really good shape. Over the years it went steadily downhill.
