Scratching my head at the Branden Grace and Shane Lowry picks. Please explain

Grace tends to play well on shorter courses. Check out his record at heritage. Very strong. All three courses are short.

Short game is of unusual importance at Pebble because the greens are TINY. You will miss greens there. Lowry has a great short game and won in Europe just s couple weeks ago.

Both makes a lot of sense.

Scratching my head at the Branden Grace and Shane Lowry picks. Please explain

Brendan Grace is good at golf and I didn't think many other people would be taking him.

You're in 2nd to last place and you picked a golfer who provides you no opportunity of making up ground on 8 other participants, including the guy in the lead and 3 of the top 5.

Touche. I had Spieth until yesterday morning too. I figured we'd see a lot more Spieth picks. Crap.

I picked Chez and I expected him to be more popular. I'm surprised so many people picked Jason Day.

Shane Lowry is kind of an odd pick, but Branden Grace had a great showing last week. I expected more people to pick him too.

I like the DJ pick early. I considered him hard. I'm trying to figure out if it's really worth saving the big guns for majors, rather than using them when others aren't going to.

After doubling up with the same golfer in all my pools last week, I decided to spread my picks around -- Chez in HBD's, Grace in another (plays well on short courses, grinds decently in bad weather) and Day in a 3rd (look at Day's record --- top 11 in 5 of the last 6 years).

If I knew how few people were picking mickelson, I would have picked him.

Like 2More said, I think short game is important here (at least on the main course). Those greens are sloped, pretty fast, and the rough is thick around them, and they're hard to hit.

Good question to ask yourself : when you look at all the picks, who do you wish you had?

Right now, Brandt.

Won a couple weeks ago and playing very solid. Like City, if you fall back there is only one way to really make up ground and that is to pick someone outside the box. With the weather being crap, figure I'd take someone who grew up in it.

Also, if you are a couple tournaments behind and get an event where you don't have a great feel, why not go a bit down the board and save the top guys for the next quarter?

Or what if the guy already possessing a sizeable lead takes JDay, who wins, and you don't? Good luck ever catching up.

There's really no one right answer, and a lot of luck involved.

I am surprised that nobody took Spieth. I thought for sure that there would be a couple with his great history at this event.

Not surprised at all of the Day picks. He also has really good history at this event with a bunch of top 10's.

I am happy with my Phil pick this week. I knew the 2 guys ahead of me used him last week so it would be an opportunity to gain some ground.

This course seems to have a lot of missed short putts on it. Watched some old us opens. Was it the college championships, or a US Am last year that was there and I remember guys whiffing on so much short stuff.

IOW, no Spieth. Probably a good sign if you took Day, or maybe Sneds.

-4 through 4. He's on a mission to stick it up HBD's ..............

He's gonna drop those draw's. (this makes more sense said in "New England" dialect accent).

Based on his current performance in 18th place, House Reavie is projected to drop from 17th to 16th in the FedEx cup points list.

It's amazing to me that PGA devotes 3 columns of the leaderboard to that useless information.

Think of how much money FedEx devotes so that those 3 columns show up every time.

Is there any discernible difference difficulty wise between pebble beach, Monterey peninsula and spyglass hill?

I do not know.

I like Matt Every, though. He's the guy who got a suspension for pot and then when Kelly Tilghman tried to get him to "redeem himself" he was like, "oh please".

https://deadspin.com/this-interview-with-pga-golfer-matt-every-is-a-train-wr-5876129

"what did you learn from the experience?"

You can see him trying to figure out how NOT to tell her to go jump in the Pacific. His response, "I feel like I'm the same person". In other words, "nothing. There was nothing to learn. It was POT!!"

The interview is SO OBNOXIOUS. She talks about him getting his life "back on track" and when they throw it back to Terry he talks about how Every has gone through "bad times".

My research indicated "not really" usually, but I also heard that the USGA has already been at Pebble prepping for the Open by starting to narrow fairways and fill in the rough.

RGV picked Congo over Little Bennett? I'm shocked.

NO.

He picked the Hoity Toity over the Hoi Polloi.

I thought he was for real.

Maryland - Congo

Pennsylvania - Oakmont

so cool

He's also got these pictures up for mf'ers who read golf magazine, not guys who play golf like us. Someone who lives in MoCo with a paid subscription to Golf Magazine would much rather see another picture of congo (they're not a member) than a picture of the Hive at Little B.
