You only need the hole-by-hole data if you're trying to adjust the hole handicap assignments.

They'll have everything they need to look at course rating. All scores are now going to a central database, managed by the USGA. They're already calculating expected versus actual performance for every single round posted, as part of PCC.

I dont understand the need to re-rate a course every year if the course doesnt change structurally.

I also dont understand how a course can make significant structural changes like BM did - or if you lengthen some holes and change the par - and not be re-rated.

Ratings should be on a 5-year basis. that accounts for changes to the course such as greens getting smaller or larger (I've seen several courses lately either shrinking the cutting areas, or reclaiming areas that got shrunk when budgets got tight so previous areas that were green became fringe) as well as trees that have fallen and make a dogleg easier. Or planting and growth of new trees.

The year-long data of scores has nothing to do with the rating. That has to do with the hole handicaps. The rating is based on criteria, not how the hole is actually played. Sort of a disconnect, but maybe the most equitable way to rate an entire course judiciously.

Reading THIS ARTICLE about the PGA tour "protecting" Patrick Reed.

And. . .wait a minute. . .did he just. . .The Tour has acted in accordance with its own procedures, but that is not a winning argument in the court of public opinion. Commissioner Jay Monahan is a proud product of Irish-American Boston, so it’s reasonable to assume he knows what can happen to an institution that views its reputation as copper-fastened to that of its members, that prizes internal discipline over public accountability when handling allegations of troubling behavior. All too often, the institution remains tarnished long after the individual wrongdoer has been forgotten.

Yup. . .I'm pretty sure that Eamon Lynch just likened the tour protecting Reed to the Catholic Church protecting abusive priests.

Well, it's still kind of distasteful. You don't go, "Brendan Steele lost his nerves like a Parkinson's sufferer on the 18th hole yesterday".

I say this in jest but have you ever read Eamon Lynch or followed him on Twitter? This is very on brand for him.

I had no issue with it as written, it says exactly what he was trying to say without coming out and saying it.

I got out for a last minute EPP round with Siegel on Sunday. the course was unbelievably soaked. Not casual water, but literal puddles everywhere. They didn't even allow cart path only. Walk or GTFO. It was kind of nice actually. Probably helped keep pace to only an unbearable level instead of fight-inducing level. The group behind our threesome was 3 holes back by the time we finished, and we played in 3:45.

As long as the ball was not directly in contact with the ground, Siegel hit it well.

I hit it well with the ball both in direct contact and not in direct contact with the ground.

ALSO in important news, xhoop's birthday was last week, and last night his roommate prepared a Sundae Bar in their apartment for the occasion. I told my roommate before we went to their place "There's no chance they're half-assing this".

The best homemade brownies I've had, homemade whipped cream, homemade chocolate sauce, Jeni's ice cream, sprinkles. F'n unbelievable.

Played Worthington Sunday with Bandondunes and new guy that’s posted here - Oday_golf. Rough round with 20mph wind that feels worse at WM. Finally the course has plans to cut down even more trees to enhance this experience.

It was a pleasure playing with Oday - great golf guy and hits the ball a ton. Of course BD Is one of the nicest guys around it and it was fun to see him persevere and try to plot his way around the course in the wind. At one point it was warm enough to wear just a polo and you cannot beat that for January golf in this area.

WM had a pretty good 20 balls for $20 Sricon sale including Zstars.

Has anyone here played Pebble Beach?

If so, is there a way not to pay the rack rate? My wife wants to take me to California for a week for my 60th birthday this summer. We'd stay in Carmel for a couple of days and I would play Pebble. Then we would head up to Napa/Sonoma for the rest of the week. I don't want to pay $575 green fees, plus $45 for a cart or $90 for a caddie. No pull carts allowed on the course. $620 is an awful lot to pay for a round of golf, even if it is a once in a lifetime round at Pebble

Oh, it is cheaper if you stay at the lodge for a grand a night.....

i've been working out really hard this winter. The result has been a lot of soreness, stiffness, and tightness ... even though i've been stretching a lot. When i have hit balls or played i've had to dial back my swing a bit. So i'm working out to be able to generate more power but all that has happened is a sore butt and shorter drives. sweet.

i've been assuming that as i get in better shape i wouldn't keep getting sore. but i've been adding weight progressively. at some point close to the season i'll stop that and go all maintenance. if i do weight stuff that day after i play in the season that should work.

i'm hoping to change a lot of my summer golf to saturday mornings. apparently the tee times from 7 to 8 am at turf are rarely used. bizarre.

There is a point with frequency where soreness/doms becomes negligible but it also depends on the way you manage nutrition and recovery... at my strongest i was in the gym 5-6 times a week and lifting barely submax and my recovery let me squat or dead two days in a row if need be. I was also 22-24 so that could've been part of it, but i was drinking a LOT.

I'm surprised that there's not better "early games" at Turf.

I'd tee off at 6:30 if they'd let us.

One thing I miss about being a freelance golfer was getting like a 6:00 AM tee time at Pine Ridge and finishing at 9:30. Have had a couple guys try to get going on an early game the last couple of years but it never seems to stick.

2MT, there were a couple times in the last few years where I started a program mid-season and quickly failed because of that. If I worked out on Thursday or Friday, I was too tired/sore to play or practice effectively on the weekend. Getting out there and doing it for the next 2 months should set you up nicely come March 15. I'm trying to find time to do the same, but haven't prioritized it. Basically haven't done a single thing that's not work or family related the last two months.
