My handicap increased by 0.1. This new system is total BS.

One thing I would do is not post your GHIN number. The app login now is GHIN # and last name so anyone with your GHIN could login to your account. It was unsure as of the last time I read a USGA posting about it whether or not they would be going back to username/password like the old GHIN app had.

I haven't been able to log into the MSGA app for many months now, but have always been able to sign in online to post scores. On MSGA's site, I can search for my handicap but I can't log in right now. I get a server error.

Doing a test and then telling a manufacturer, "we did a test and you stuff came out best, and maybe you want to capitalize when we publish the results" is still different than taking ad dollars and putting every single major manufacturer on your "Hot List".

I really do love how they just hate the major manufacturers though. They're really iconoclastic. Can you believe that in 2019 their most wanted mallet putter was a Tommy Armour? I mean, they had a major manufacturer as their best utility iron, fairway wood, hybrid, players iron, SGI iron, players distance iron, game improvement iron, driver for slow swings speeds, driver for high swing speeds, driver for mid swings speeds, blade putter, AND driver. But, you can really feel them sticking it to the man with that Tommy Armour pick.

Must be all that Snell money coming in. Snell's probably worked out a back room deal with Tommy Armour.

Even the snell review wasn't all roses. They were the longest, but they had those wildly off line shots.

I got blocked by one of them on Twitter after asking what the difference in "independence" was if they make such a bid deal about taking $1 from Callaway or Ping or Taylormade but they have no problem taking $10k or $20k from Snell or Evnroll. No answer, just blocked. I still dont get or care about whats the difference? Does anyone really care either way, I'd rather they just admit that running a testing business is expensive and they will partner with anyone that is available. Instead though, its the attitude of look at us, we're the only clean guys out there, everyone else is lying to you. Their site even says they will only take money or partner with companies that perform well in their tests.

Whatever. Something for everyone I guess.

The Under Armour Showdown SL is a very comfortable shoe, I'm probably getting a second pair for the upcoming season. They make a sunbrella version as well that's really nice on dry days.

GTW 2: With the release of new equipment now in full swing...anyone have equipment changes they are looking to make this year?

 

I'll probably end up with a SIM once clubheads start going up for sale. The M5 has been okay this year but I'm starting to get bored with it a little. The F9 so far has had spin numbers way too high but I need to get it outdoors before selling it off.

Everything else is fine, no energy to make any changes since my irons are less than a year old and the two-putter rotation is locked. New wedges maybe in the fall.

What's the deal with The Grint and the new handicap system? Do we have to have a Pro account?

So when I pay my mens league fee it includes the VSGA/GHIN app and "stuff" fee so I dont really know how the free sites treat this anymore. Does this mean all "free" sites wont be free anymore? My brother uses USHandicap still and I think its free.

It seems like all these apps will have to connect to the GHIN system to be official. And that'll cost the developers money. So there's no way handicaps will be free anymore.

I don't actually have a problem subscribing to the Grint, though. I just wanted to check with y'all.

Why would any company pay for advertising on a web page that is going to tout their stuff as "best" in their overhyped tests? Shouldn't they be advertising elsewhere? The site is doing their advertising for them.

Because their overhyped tests aren't really tests. They're ads, in a different format.

It's inconceivable that Golf Digest would have a driver in their magazine that said, "this thing is crud and doesn't perform and doesn't give you any improvements" because Golf Digest isn't an equipment testing magazine. it's not a golf instruction manual. It's not even a golf reporting magazine. It's a vehicle for ads, like network TV. That's why you get a 5 year subscription when you buy a bag of tees at Golf Galaxy.

The worst driver in the 2019 Hot list has 4 stars in "performance", "innovation" and "look/sound/feel". (yes, it might very well be true that the worst driver they tested was legitimately 4 stars in all those categories because pretty much all drivers are good.)

Aside : I was just looking through the Hot List to see if I could find a single club they gave 3 stars to in any category (I can't but I didn't look at everything). I came across the Yonex EZone CB 701. The Verdict : "The strong lofts push the boundaries of decency (a 38-degree pitching wedge?)..."

38 degree pitching wedge. Lol.

Comments from a "High Handicapper" : "Very Long. I feel like I should choke down to have normal distances." Translation : I couldn't figure out that I should hit my 8 iron instead of my 7 iron from 135.

Mid-handi : "The turf interaction with the sole was more forgiving than I would have thought." Translation : I hit it 4 inches fat and my 8 iron still went 135.

My handicap dropped .3. So much for my theory that I didn't think it would affect me because I think I'm "consistent". Still hard to say. Those were end of the year scores and those can get wonky. Little does the USGA know they might have just WHS'ed me right into a US Open qual. LOL.

Went to Golf Doctor--thanks for the recommendation! Going to try to transition from 690.CB to 680 MB this year, or at least add them into the rotation. We'll see how this goes.

I picked up one of these rain jackets for $30 shipped, no tax. I've worn it twice in light rain and it's worked well, but I can't speak to a steady downpour. Their sizes are UK sizes so a 2XL is the same as a US XL:

If you go to "My Pools" and click on your entry, it gives you the option for reminder emails. I got the reminder on Wednesday and made my picks. I would have forgotten if not.

I almost set a rule where it gave you once chance to miss a pick and defaulted to the highest ranked golfer available. I ended up not liking that idea at all. Take the 45 seconds a week to make a pick for chrissakes.

If there was a way to make the default pick the lowest ranked golfer, I'd be all for it.
