here's another way to phrase it : the old system, if you shot your handicap, you would wind up roughly on the course rating.

In the new system, if you shoot your handicap, you'll wind up on net par.

Does that make sense?

I'm actually trying to think of a good way to explain this to people just because I know it's going to come up on the course (as a matter of fact it already has). People understand 8 of last 20. People understand "weather correction". But this one seems tricky.

For yourself, someone who is usually an 8 or 9, it means that when you play up, you might be a 5 or 6, and if you play back, you'll be a 11 or 12. In either case, just realize that a good round will put you at PAR and not the course rating. in the old system, you'd be an 8 or 9 from wherever, and a good round would put you at net 69 or net 74 (depending on what the CR is).

The weather correction / playing conditions calculation (PCC) is going to be interesting. It seems like it is only going to work well if people post the same day and with online posting and apps like The Grint, it seems like people get lazy and post a few days late. It also requires at least 8 scores on a given day so winter rounds in NOVA may not get 8 posted scores on a given day. The PCC could result in an adjustment of -1.0 (when the course is playing easy) up to a +3.0 (when the course is playing hard), but I haven't seen anything posted yet that explains the math behind the PCC. It seems like a good idea, but it will be interesting to see how it works in reality.

I appreciate how into it some people are but all I really care about at the end of the day is what happens when I show up for our match. Here's my CH based on tee box, here's yours. Lets roll.

It looks like the GHIN app will do everything for you - once they finish it. But its clear with the way they setup the CH tab that you can quickly calculate CHs for each golfer based on tee box.

This makes it a tad easier to understand.

I wonder of the Net to Par instead of course rating is a mind game?

The weather adjustment could be good. Although, with counting 10/20 one bad round in horrible weather didn't make a difference.

I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the explanation you have. It helped me understand better.

Did anyone get lingering snow North of the city? We got maybe a half to an inch on the grass that mostly froze last night and the roads were icy coming in this morning. Hopfeully it warms up enough the next couple days so that some place is open on Saturday when it hits 70. Otherwise I'll be at Burke Lake hitting balls until the sun goes down. High 60s/70 on Saturday, rain Saturday night but right now cloudy/mid 60s on Sunday.

Our office holiday party - which to be fair I havent been to in the 8 years I've been at this company - is next Saturday. The 18th. Isnt that way too late? I get that the company saves a ton of money by having their holiday party....AFTER THE HOLIDAYS but damn. Is that too old-man thinking of me that company holiday parties should be between say the 1st and 20th of December? Or is this a more common thing now? I guess that once the trees are down and its a month after Xmas, I'm not looking forward to getting dressed up and hanging out with my bosses on a Saturday night.

BTW props to Dom for the True shoe referral code on IG. Needed one more pair of shoes and wouldnt have tried them for $150 but for $100 - its worth the shot. Will be the first pair of Trues I've really tried.

What did you get? I've never owned the Originals or the OG Premium.

I think $100 is great for these shoes, but I have this long history of buying old models for like $30 and so $100 feels like a fortune. The ones that are all over eBay are the "Elements" which I don't think was one of their better shoes. I still might pull the trigger. I like what they're doing with their new stuff.

Did anyone watch the Jeopardy "Greatest of All Time"? It was better than advertised.

I'd heard Ken Jennings in some interview last year say he'd lost a little on his fastball but he was SOOOO GOOD last night.

Dum Dum Brad blowing all the DD's kept them out of James' hands and probably helped Ken. I thought the categories helped KJ. He owns geography (he has a book out about it) and there were a couple geo-heavy categories. Of course, he also knows his Shakespeare and history and bible and he's good with wordplay.

In DJ in the second game, when he hit the DD right out of the gates in the Before & After category and pieced that together, I was like, "he's gonna win this".

But, James still looks dangerous. If James hits the DD's just right, obviously he could still crush. He seemed better on the buzzer yesterday, but a couple times Ken got into a rhythm and just went HAM. Ken had better DD luck and that's what it could boil down to.

I went True OG Night Camo. I realized since our clubhouse/shop/course is closed for two weeks, the FJ order I put in right before Christmas isnt going to get to me for another couple weeks anyway. $100 for a new pair of good shoes is a reasonably price IMO, if I dont like them at that price I can probably get back most of what I spent - if not return them depending on their policy.

Yeah, the Jep-heads call that a "perfect game".

There's been some.

There's never been a game where all the questions have been answered without an error. In the second game, in double jep, they all blanked on a 400 question. It was probably the craziest thing that happened.

I did not watch but thought that James would roll. One of the handicapping podcasts I listened to talked last week about how an offshore sportsbook - that is known to cater to mostly professionals - took a bunch of small bets on who they presumed was James to win. He's repeatedly talked about this particular sportsbook on several podcasts. For something thats prerecorded like that or predecided - like the Oscars - the limits are normally very small but they still took 5 or 6 bets on him.

Likewise. Especially since I have been very disappointed with the comfort of the SLPros. Maybe they will break in more, but I can't imagine walking 18 holes in them right now.

GTW 2: With the release of new equipment now in full swing...anyone have equipment changes they are looking to make this year?

As a starting point, I think my equipment is in a really good spot.

Irons: Absolutely love the 900 Forged. I really cannot think of anything else I could ask for in a set of irons.

Wedges: Vokeys, which I put in the bag in late 2018, will not be changed. Might be up for an exact replacement (model, loft, grind) in 2021.

Hybrid: G Hybrid is staying.

Fairway: f85 fairway has been the best fairway I've ever had in my bag. Has good launch and a bit of left bias (very upright and very closed face) which really helps me. I also cut it do something like 42" so its quite short for a 3 wood which is again helpful for me.

Driver/Putter: These are my areas of weakness which means I tend to tinker in both spots every year. Going in, I really think the driver is fairly safe. I do have a desire to test some of the draw drivers and my friend has a Rogue Draw that I'm going to hit with him on a monitor at some point this winter/early spring. But that said, I'm trying to commit to no changes in this spot for 2020. Putter is more likely to be changed. I have been putting well with my anser style bobby grace but will look at something more mallet again at some point. I have been looking at the Bobby Grace mallet that looks a bit like a sully spider and am intrigued by it after visiting Golfdom. There is a center shafted version which is pretty cool as well. Have been on the ebay/BST lookout.

Nope, I actually ended up selling mine last year after trying to break them in / convincing myself they would break in. They did not.

GTW2 - Probably will grab the SIM drivers from the demo bag once the course opens back up and/or try to beg my friend at TM for a demo head. Apparently its not an upgrade from the M5/6 but may or may not be from the M3. I'd say that if it could just improve the impact sound a touch - its almost worth it to me. The M3 is not bad but I am definitely jelly of that dead/thump sound that Chief gets from the M5. SIM sounds similar. If I dont like it, will maybe pick up an M6 from Second Swing, used ones should be even cheaper with the price drop.

Have been trying out a 790 UDI the last couple of weeks and did not like it at all, it will be heading to Second Swing on my next trip. Have tried a dozen or so driving irons the last couple years but nothing could beat the Epic 3i. Even had it built with the same shaft, Steelfiber, and I just like the Epic better. Maybe a mint UDI and 60* Hi Toe will = a used M6.

I like everything else in the bag for right now.

No planned equipment changes.

I may screw around with driver a bit once the season warms up. Last year, I was just hitting it so poorly at times even compared to my 4W. That's mostly my swing, but feels like there's some minor things that could help, like getting the right swing weight or feel. I want to play and work on some things first before I go spending money on this though. I was playing better at the end of the season, and think my bad memories with driver are a bit earlier than that. Maybe in May or June I'll re-assess and take some action.

My fairway woods are OG X-Hots, so they are 7-8 years old now and could be improved upon. But I've been saying that for a few years now, and they just work well enough that I haven't thought seriously about it.

GTW2: I feel really confident in my irons still. Ironically, same as you - JPX900 forged bent pretty weak. I did ponder a P760 3-6 and a P730 7-W for a little, not sure if the desire will strike. I do need a backup set anyway.

Wedges are being flipped to a new set of vokeys. My 6 year old SM4s are not really holding up anymore. I do plan on switching to a Hi-Toe in the lob spot.

3W still seems safe too, Cobra F7. It's just been so reliable for me. I've looked around for 17 M1s M3s and M5s in the past but cant ever get them to set up properly to instill any confidence.

Driver is probably getting tweaked from a shaft perspective, and i'm sure i'll try out a few of the new ones but between old faithful M2 and the M5, i feel set here.

I dont plan on adding any putters, but I have 3 in the basement and one in the bag. It's either the X5 or the Newport that goes out of the house unless they're out of commission (or its too wet for the carbon steel putter).

Hybrid/DI: I'm happy with my DI, the 2 UDI. It's a beefcake. I will probably try, buy, and sell no fewer than 3 hybrids this year, though. I just.... hate hybrids. Maybe i'll find a 5W so i can stop having this stupid discussion.

GTW 2: Every club in my bag is new to me since August.

M4 driver, 3 wood, and 3 hybrid.

Titleist AP3 5-P & 48

New wedge set up at 50/54/58 in the RTX3 vs the 52/56/60 in older model.

And a New to me Scotty Cameron 2.6 center shafted.

Also switching balls to the ProV1 this year. Yellow. All #2's.

All in the bag for a windy round this weekend coming up. We shall see. Previous runs with the majority of the 14 in the bag held promise.
