New PXG prototype driver

I tested the X driver today. I really loved the feel of the head, very solid. I hit tons of balls with a bunch of different shafts and the Tensei CK Pro White 60TX was the best. Launch and spin were all right where I wanted them to be. Ball speed was in the 166-170 range. I still want to test a couple other clubs but this is on the short list for sure. Great Driver

Just ordered my first PXG club, a 0811X driver at 10.5 with a NV Bue 60x shaft. Can't believe I finally pulled the trigger. Biggest challenge now is getting it at the front door when it is delivered and in my bag without my wife ever knowing.

Just put your current driver's headcover on it. My wife still thinks I'm playing a 2016 GBB Driver.

Thats the plan, just need to get it in the house and out of the box without her seeing it.

Just placed an order. 0811x with tensei pro orange 60x, added an half a inch to the shaft beacuse I am just going to sell it anyway. Going to put a Oban tour limited or a oban hashimoto in the head.

Lol, I just ordered the exact same club with PO 60X +.5". I plan on keeping it and testing against the Kiyoshi Black 65 05 flex.

Wonder how forgiving the X is. Playing epic atm. I would like it ASAP, but probably best to try it out first. Decisions decisions....

I have been playing Epic SZ for 2 years. Only hit PXG on trackman indoors and bought it because I feel it is way more forgiving. Don't have real world testing though. Epic is great, but not very forgiving IMO.

Maybe someone who played can chime in?

I have both the Epic and the PXG-X and there is no difference for me in forgiveness but i never considered the Epic to be overly forgiving.

Only one winter round with 0311X and some indoor testing but it is very good for sure as good or better than anything i've hit this year or last.

Certainly better look sound and feel than most anything ive tried or gamed last two years.

Just wanted to make sure I understood you:

You said "no difference" in forgiveness between Epic and PXG-X? You also said you "never considered the Epic to be overly forgiving."

Does all this mean that the PXG is not "overly" forgiving?

Thanks

it just means i dont think pxg x is any more difficult to hit than epic or most of the newer drivers.

The X is not a game iimprovement driver. The MOI of the X I think is 4400 with weight forward, 4800 weight back. The XF is at maximum moi of 5900. You can tell the difference between hitting them. If you like to shape your shots, the XF is going fight you, and the X will work better. Per the Moi the X is still more forgiving than the Epic. But I think the X is more forgiving because the COG is lower so hits low on the face are less affected. I do better with clubs that shape the ball, because I cant help but try and work the ball so I'd have to make exaggerated moves on the ball with the XF, and then that leads to big misses. I'd say for comparable player type drivers, the X is more forgiving. X sounds a little "thudier" than XF. It just depends on what your objectives are with the driver....

Don’t worry. All of the big boys will review this. Crossfield. Newton. Shiels. Ali Taylor. , And I’m sure the boys down under will get it too. Alex Etches and Aussie Golf Reviewer. Etches of golf box would be a real good one with his ball speed. Most of these guys have done pxg before.

I’m ready to hear the “big boys” review if this club...

I'm eager to hear any comparisons between the XF gen 2 and G400max. Gen 1 XF seemed to be inferior based on reviews, but with MOI at the max you have to think it's at least equal overall.

Thanks. I really feel like the X is more forgiving than my Epic SZ. But I only have the launch monitor to go off of.

I really like the 2.5* flat -1* loft setting. I was able to eliminate my left miss with it in the the Kiyoshi Black shaft. I also liked the Pro Orange shaft. I didn't like the 70TX, but hit the 60S really good (they didn't have the 60TX). I ended up ordering the 60TX and hope it works even better than the 60S.

I went and hit all the new stuff today (other than the PING and Mizuno). Clear winner for me was the PXG Gen 2 X. I am gaming a G400 Max. Absolutely love the look, sound and feel of the X and it gave me better numbers than anything else. Going to hit everything again Friday but expect to place an order after that....

Weight settings? neutral, etc.

Testing was on Trackman. Launch was 13 spin 2100-2300. 9 degree head set at 7.5 with the heavy weights all forward.

I typically spin it very high, getting something to consistently keep me at 2100 is hard. I have never actually achieved that.

Sounds very similar to my fitting. 7.5 loft, low 2000s spin, never been there before....

I liked the PXG better than the M5. Better ball speed for me. Similar spin. Much better look and feel.

I did try the fwy, also very very good might order those also. Wish it was a little larger footprint.

I did try the XF quite extensively I found it a little higher spin than the G400 Max but equally or more forgiving. Fantastic option for someone who doesn't need super low spin. I expected to like the XF better than the X but was surprised at the playability and consistency of the X.

Will have another go Friday just to confirm original results.

The last thing for me with this club was dispersion. I was amazed at how consistent every shot was. I play a slight cut and that was what I was seeing with each swing. Even my low heel misses were still finishing in the 290 range and spin was 2800. That for me, has never happened. My low heel shots normally spin like crazy. Again, the only thing holding me back at the moment is I haven't hit anything else to this point.

Don’t let it hold you back. I have hit all of them and the pxg is by far the lowest spin. I had to move my 9 degree and pick up a 10.5. This is coming from a guy who traditionally plays 7.5 or lower lofted drivers.

M5 has really nice dispersion, and around the same spin for me as the m3. In fact they are both great but the pxg has another gear for me in ball speed and in spin reduction.

Was it even lower spin then the Mizuno ST190G with the weights in the forward position? So far, from the few reviews that seems to be very low spin.

FWIW - The detailed hot list is out and it seems all the PXG woods/hybrids did well. The hybrid looks like it really cleaned up, in particular.

Anxiously awaiting the shipping notification for my fairway and hybrid, seems the driver contest this year for me is going to come down to mainly the PXG and Cobra.
