New PXG prototype driver

I haven't posted much recently but it's nice to be back.

Β

Going for a full woods fitting on Sat at Liberty National.

Β

I was fit for the Gen2 irons there, and it is an amazing facility. Indoor facility hitting to an outdoor range with all Prov1's and of course trackman. Hundreds of shafts. Looks like might be every available shaft from PXG.

Β

Will have a full report.

Β

Wow, good to know. Who is fitting you there? PXG?

Β

It is a PXG facility located within the learning center. It's a similar setup to what Nike had at the Oven, just on a smaller scale. Very impressive!

Β

If you wouldn't mind - could you PM me who I need to get in contact with to set that up? Thanks.

Corey Brigham. Good guy, really in depth knowledge of the product.

....and can anyone tell me the prep depth on the pxg sleeve? No ferrules on the sleeves right? My other shafts will work as well...

Just spent a week in Vegas giving the Gen 2 a solid run. Switched out the NV Blue for the T1100 and it's a monster, which is very forgiving and flys and rolls out a ton. Picked up the 22 hybrid while in town and it's also a magnificent club. Still believing the hybrids are going to be the best in market for 2019.

so I just spent 2 hours at a fitting at PGA tour academy. Fitter was awesome. came down to the epic flash subzero and the PXG X. Interestingly the PXG was giving me lower spin numbers and a better smash factor but was on average 5 yards shorter and my club head speed was 2mph slower than with the Flash. The pro said its likely due to the length of the shaft (pxg standard is 45). My question is has anyone tried a longer shaft with the PXG? I was using the Hazrdus yellow handcrafted in both. I am waiting for them to get the PXG guys here with a longer shaft for me to compare apples to apples. I am leaning towards the PXG because the numbers were better and if I get the longer shaft, I should in theory have better distance or equivalent. Thoughts?? my other issue is the epic is almost 100 cheaper with discount through my club where as PXG offers no such discount.

Did you buy/order any PXG clubs post fitting?

I was fit for both driver and hybrid at fitting. Bought driver with NV shaft and decided to flip out NV for T1100 post purchase. I thought I could talk myself into loving NV, but after 3 rounds last week, decided I should have gone with T1100 so I found a place in Vegas to switch them for me at no cost. Bought hybrid a couple days later since they had my set up in stock at store and the gambling gods hooked me up at the casino.

I asked about a 70g PO...…….. from Adam at DD......

Β

"They only offer the 60 in the orange, they can special order the 70g but it would be a $450 upcharge."

$125 for PO feels like a good deal.

Β

$125 for PO?

Β

Yes, it’s only $125 to upgrade to the PO with the new PXG drivers.

Β

Only 60 gram option. Not sure why they wouldn’t offer 70.

Β

Have you ordered one yet SS?

Β

No I’m still waiting for my guy to get his demos.

I have a PXG X and a Flash Sub Zero on the way to test on course. My second fitting (which was at a different place than the first w different shafts) the Flash SZ was the clear winner. Though the second fitting did not have the winner shaft that I fit into for the PXG during the first fitting and the first fitting didn't have the winner shaft that I fit into during the second fitting for the Callaway. So I got them both and will make my final decision on the course.

Were both shafts equal in length when you tested them? I know PXG is a little shorter then Cally.

Thanks for the info. I didn't find the Flash Sub Zero as offensive sounding as I expected to from early reviews.

Β

Did you find the PXG substantially more muted and soft feeling?

Β

Did you hit any toe misses and get a feeling for which one was better directionally off the toe side ?

Cheers

I got to play 18 today. Hit it pretty good, and after a shaky start, I managed to score a nice 1 over par.

Β

0811XF is super easy to hit. As I said earlier, I'm a low spin player, and I still get my spin under 2400 with the XF. Feel is outstanding. Very pleased with my purchase.

Β

I also played with the new mizuno ball. I really liked it. I was getting more spin on irons compared to prov1, which is good for me. Distance with driver seemed very good.

Β

Yes both shafts were the same length. Also I've done a ton of personal testing on shaft length and I don't swing a longer shaft any faster than a shorter one pretty much until I get down under a 3w.

Β

Yes the PXG is substantially better sounding and feeling imo. I didn't find the Callaway offensive, maybe a hair on the loud side but as someone who prefers a muted thwack the PXG is nearly perfect.

Β

I found both were pretty good on toe misses. The Callaway maybe a hair straighter.

Anyone compare the pxg to m5? I can’t pick.

Β

I think I’m splitting hairs as it’s great either way.

Β

Everyone will have a different experience, however when I did my fitting. I tried Titleist (Ts), m5, cally flash sz , pxg x, ping g400 (didn’t have the 410). Wasn’t even close for me, the cally and pxg were significantly better. I currently play the M3 and tested all against it. M5 was marginally better than the M3. Hope that helps. I really wanted to try the cobra.

I just went through an extensive full bag fitting with PXG. The new flat settings for the fairway and hybrids is very appealing, makes the club set up perfectly for me with no worries of the dreaded hook! The new GEN 2X driver sounds fantastic, but my spin rate were very low, 1700 to 1800 on many shots compared to 2200 with my G400 LST KK combo. My angle of attack is +5 or so with the driver, with around 100 mph ch speed. The 12Β° turned down to 10.5 ended up being my best setting, paired with the BF 60 S shaft. Dispersion was better than my Ping, but carrydistance but about the same. Dry fairways would probably give me 10-15 more yards with the PXG. Hit the XF as well, better spin numbers for me, but don’t like the look as much as the x. Wedges are stunning!
