TourStriker Impact Strap

In the youtube video Martin says he wants to hit the ball in forward bend. Now there may some forward bend still present but it seems like “everyone” is trying to hit the ball in right side bend not forward bend.

Seems like the perfect training aid for those seeking to achieve impact hands that are on the original shaft plane line. Nobody seems to talk about that anymore.

I've been looking at this also. Looks like it could help with EE but it also looks like it may limit ulnar deviation

I'm probably going to buy it, I have tendency to early extend and hit toe balls and blocks. I was hoping this would help

On video, I always seem cramped though the impact area and I early extend a touch. Also, compared to Martin Chuck with strap on, my wrists are more extended than his. That s*** he took with it on in the video was solid

Oddly, this seems like a very polarizing aid. Probably good for the right person, but I doubt that Dustin Johnson could even hit a ball with that. I might even add John Rahm, Daniel Berger, and Cam Champ to that list as well.

Take this with a grain of salt as my lesson this weekend was focused on releasing the hammer hinge earlier and getting the feeling of pounding a stake into the ground 45 degrees behind me to start my swing - so clearly my issues are not applicable to all.

I'd add that my focus on the opposite of what this training aid seemingly encourages is in large part to reduce the need to extend early. Basically, holding the "hammer hinge" wrist cake too long does not give me enough room to shallow, and thus I'm forced to early extend to shallow my plane.

Depending on why you early extend, this may or may not help / hurt.

I purchased one and have just started working with it. I am an S&T golfer and will be using it to help me stay connected on the follow through where my arms come off my chest causing me to swing across the line on my longer clubs (driver especially). I haven't taken it to the range yet but I have been making some practice swings at home and really like what it is showing me. Right now it seems like my issue really wasn't my arms at all but in fact I was not turning steep enough on the backswing and not keeping my hips moving forward enough (2 important parts of S&T) on the downswing. When I get those parts right my arms stay connected and move comfortably through the hitting zone as they should. Hopefully I can keep this up once I go to hit some balls.

I swear to God I think I need to invent a dental golf device.

I’ll show those stats that say tension ruins a swing and the jaw stores a great deal of that tension. I’ll eliminate that tension.

I’ll post some before and afters, showing amazing swings.

I’ll talk (pay) Jim McLean into shilling for it.

Then I’ll start some GolfWRX threads asking about it.

Boom. Sell 15,000 of these things, knowing the first two batches will be all I ever sell, and that’ll be it! Profit central!

Sooooooo unethical. Quit falling for this stuff!

$63 for a small piece of plastic & a foot or 2 of Velcro... Ridiculous. Then again so much golf merchandise is. Case in point, laser rangfinders. Golf rangefinder $300-400. Rangfinder for hunting $80.

Well, I don’t know about that. I’ve been playing for 30+ years. 59 yo. Still put it out there about 275. Carry a 4 HCP. I’ve maintained my length off the tee using an orange whip and a smartball. 60% GIR training with the smartball and impact snap. I use a putting mirror.

I think this impact strap is going to help FEEL like I’m staying down thru the shot, as slight EE is something I battle. If it saves me 1-2 strokes in tournament play or money matches, $63 is an investment and a drop in the bucket. If not, well, I’ve paid quadruple that for some rounds of golf and I’ll sell it on eBay.

Is it any worse than people flying all over the country to see golf instructors?

Rather than start a new thread, does anyone have any experiences with the Tour Striker Click. I fight a flip and am thinking it might help me out

I've used one before. The device was actually invented by Mark Evershed, another Canadian pro.

The device is basically a wrist strap with a metal strip (like a thick metal tape measure) attached which runs behind and up the middle of your trail middle finger. You bend your trail wrist back, which initially bends the metal strip back and you hear and feel it "click." Then, you swing a club with the goal of not hearing or feeling the metal strip "unclick." The design is to create awareness and feelings around swinging the club in a manner that doesn't let the device "unclick"

Another device designed to achieve the same thing through a forced position is the old Greg Norman "The Secret." It forces you to bend your wrist back so that you learn to relax the trail arm when swinging. But, in that position, the only way to square the clubface is to use core rotation to impact!

My take: If you do well with audio cues, and have good core rotation to the ball, do the Power Click.

If you have never felt the feeling of swinging a club using core rotation to square the club (required to allow the trail wrist to bend) the Secret would be better. The happy medium between these two might be a Power Package.

Do trail hand open swings. Setup normal. Open trail hand. No cheating with any fingers on grip. Do short swings - club to parallel or a bit past. Should not have trail hand come off club in follow thru. Need membership ( can take free 7 day trial). https://golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/trail-hand-open/

You can also do full swings ( Tyler has a video on this too) which can help with learning to shallow among other things. https://golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/open-trail-hand-full-swings/

I’d like to think so, but I know where I’ve been vs. where I am. Do slow motion backswings with a mirror and a smart ball for 1000 reps during the winter. Swing an Orange Whip lefty and righty for years. Your body learns something.

I’m a firm believer in using the tools that are available to you to accomplish a task. The orange whip, smart ball, and impact strap are tools. Along with lessons, yoga, and stretching.

So if I’m good, I know how I got there. I also know where I want to be. If something helps me accomplish this, so be it. Money well spent. And frankly, I need all the help I can get keeping up with the twenty something year old flat bellies

  • 3 weeks later...

i've hit balls briefly with mine and i'm not sure about it. its possible to overpower the device, at least for me, all I feel is a slight tug on my arm after the shot. I guess I just have to try to keep the strap from going taught? So far its not doing much for me but my EE issue is pretty small and has more to do with my left hip not quite turning left enough at impact. my handle rises only slightly through the shot if that makes any difference. I'll probably use it to hit pitch shots when the weather improves at most.

I spent some time hitting short wedge shots last night with this aid. What I found was that it really made me focus on pivot and side bend, which is great for me. I do have concerns about getting steep with it so i'm going to give it a shot again but use some video to make sure i'm still on plane and everything. I'm starting to think that overall this aid is going to help me but its going to take some time and i'll have to mix it in with other drills. For instance: I think I need a little ulnar deviation but practicing trying to have none helps me not stall my hips a bit or stand up to start the downswing. I really feel like I have to bow my wrist in order to compress the ball properly with the unit on.
