Ping Eye 2 Complete Set - Refinished (Project)

lxadoz104

Recommended Posts

So I happen to pick up a set of Ping Eye 2 BeCu Irons (serial matching) 2-SW. After enjoying playing them a couple times, and finding the patina wear from divots and hits, I decided to clean them.

I also picked up a LW.

Then I picked up the 1,3,4,5,7 refinished woods.

And then, a Ping Pal 2 BeCu Putter.

Finally, found a perfect bag to sit them in the corner of the room.

Recently took them all to Ping (since I'm local), and had them regripped with Ping 703 White +1 wrap. Had the putter regripped with a Pingman White.

Man it's hard to just see these sit in the corner of my room.

Here's a link to them before Cleaning and even in my Eliott Bag (Leather), and the journey through cleaning and eventually the regrip and repaint via Ping.

Very nice. I still have my circa 1982 Eye 2 set in a white Ping cart bag. I take them out once a year or so. The irons still are sweet, but it’s a chore hitting the laminated woods. Hard to believe I’ve had them for 36 years.

Very nice. The 2i is particularly snazzy.

BeCu EYE2s are on my "must try" list. I have a L-wedge that I like, so one day I need to invest in the rest of the set.

Also, I love that white PING bag, RSinSG. Thinking about it, I think PING was the first and only company that people around me would exclusively adhere to. Most people -- and Players -- had mixed bags, but in the Eighties I played with a few solid Players (low single figures UK handicap) who had all EYE2 irons and woods, usually a PING putter, and more often than not that white PING staff bag.

And I feel like I'm shouting "PING!" in this post...

Very nice work! :good: Where did you find the bag? It looks unused. I've never seen one that colour before. A perfect match for your set!

You will find that the patina returns over time even in a indoor environment. It's nice to have them restored as you have done, but i think I prefer the weathered look indicating they have provided the owner with years of enjoyment. I've left mine as is after cleaning them a couple of times over the years. It used to bother me seeing the patina worn off from use, not so much anymore.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Nice work.

Only addition I'd make are some classic white barrel Ping head covers like these. :-)

Not only are you a Clemson fan but this is spot on.

I've also considered getting 1,4,6 blonde woods as I would rather carry those....

Beautiful irons. Nice work. This is my play set haven't found a more forgiving iron or cooler looking set. Also love my blonde woods. Just as forgiving but I'll admit 15 yards shorter. I'm old and play at 6000 yds so doesn't hurt me. Plus stand up and pure the 2 iron on a short par 4 twirl the club and walk away before the ball lands. Priceless lol

Brilliant, had the eye2s for years.... Now on the isi's! Got some k3 rails from 77 which I take out now and again. Always loved the older ping irons, but the eye2s changed golf equipment especially for us mere mortals!

The funny thing is I have PXG Gen 1 as my gamers but I can work the Eye 2 better.

And yes, I realize that my ego needs to get checked since the Eye 2 7 iron is essentially the PXG 8 iron.

Even though I am not really a Ping man you did a jam up job restoring them. And that old L-8 bag what a find. Those older Ping bags are tough quite a few still around. I have an original Hoofer I found at GW a while back that looks like it was put up for years. Paid a little high for GW but it was worth $9.50. And your Elliott bag anything looks good in that. They make those just down the road from me in Charleston SC

I find quite a few of those old Ping barrel covers on stuff in the yard but have only one matching set and those are green. I got them at GW a few years back still in the package for $2. I have those on my green and white Macgregor Tartan Staff bag. On my game bag which is the Hoofer right now I only carry one FW and I have an old Ping Blue barrel cover and it has some sentiment for me. It is from Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte NC

I've still got an early 90's Ping carry bag that I bought at Glenview Park GC , like the one that lxadoz104 pictured above. mine's red.

we played that course pretty often for about four or five years. they had a sweet deal for residents.

the fellow that ran the food service there had once owned a local restaurant (ran it with his brothers) where my wife and I were customers when we were dating.

years later - met the same guy at another course - recognized him, caught up on some memories.

this world is mighty small, pays to be nice to everyone.

currently playing:
FT-5 - D
Cally FT hybrids
Hogan Edge GS, 4-PW
Vokey Oil Can 52, 56
Ping Anser 2

TM FlexTech Lite/Titleist StaDry

How far are you from Charlotte? Was just down in Matthews over Christmas, my brother lives down there. Hoping to move there before I die up here in the frozen North.
