How are people getting on Augusta National? Are you friends with a member or invited for some special event? Need to know so I can ditch my friends and go find new ones that can get me access to Augusta.

Torrey was probably the most underwhelming course. To the extent that a few years ago I stayed at the Lodge and didn't even think about teeing it up.

 

Conway Farms out side of Chicago is a really good golf course, not sure what I expected but just solid.

 

Kapalua is probably the most fun golf course of tour courses that I have played. I love it, its not the best course but just fun to play, normally in great condition and never gets old.

 

Bethpage Black probably surprised me the most. The course is fantastic, the conditions probably shocked me more than anything. They were really good. I had played Red multiple times prior to playing Black and red is in nice shape for a muni. Black is in incredible shape for a muni.

 

Just my thoughts,

 

yeah, red is an outstanding course and would be worthy of a trip if in the area ...

 

the only regular pga tour course i've played is sawgrass, in july, and i thought it was fantastic ... not pete dye's biggest fan by a stretch, but i never once thought about the 17th until i had finished the 16th ... that's how 'into' the course i was, esp because of the sight-lines and overall strategy of angles off the tee ...

I’ve played in 7 different pro-ams including two different world golf championships and around 40 PGA Tour courses. Most of them are solidly middle of the road as far as courses I’ve played. Some are straight up bad, e.g., TPC Scottsdale (where I have played in 4 of the pro-ams). Overall, I find most PGA Tour courses to be more about viewing for the crowds and nothing to do with quality layouts. They are fine. Nothing special but, other than a few, relatively solid.

Easiest (not easy but for a tour course)- TPC Deere Run

Most fun-Whistling Straights

Overrated-Cog Hill Dubs and Medinah 3 (no offense Chicago)

Best Conditioned- Muirfield Village

For me I’m friends with a past champion, and then the club I work has quite a few ANGC members that I have gotten to know and they’ve been kind enough to extend invites from time to time.

I had a customer who was friends with a member. Very lucky.

other than playing one of the Disney courses when I was 13, just played one finally, PGA West Stadium, and it was spectacular.

Agree that TP south is fine at best.

 

Whistling Straits is excellent.

 

Conway Farms is nice, but kind of an easy course for the pros.

 

No love for the Loaf? I played it years ago when the Bellsouth was being played there a few weeks before the Masters. Loved it.

Have played a few current and past.

 

I enjoyed TPC Scottsdale, but really only the last few holes. Overall it was a boring course, but I played it with the stands up, which was cool for me.

PGA National was fun and the bear trap ate me up.

I thought Doral was solid but way over priced but had to check it off the list.

 

Mission Hills CC Dinah Shore is my favorite course. I know it's an LPGA course but it is home to a major. Really nothing overly special about it but just has that old school golf feel with some fun holes.

Riviera, Montreux, Chambers Bay, TPC Scottsdale (with stands), TP South, TPC Harding Park, TPC Summerlin. In that order

 

edit to include Chambers Bay...should be even better once the new greens are established

1. Turnberry is my favorite

2. Muirfield is the hardest

3. Torrey Pines South is the most overrated

 

others played

1. St. Andrews, 1 17 and 18 are unbelievable, some nice holes in the middle, if not for the history, a lot of unmemorable holes as well

2. Royal Troon, true out and back course, some fun holes

3. PGA West Stadium, also some very cool holes, and then some boring ones in the housing development

4. Cordevalle (former Frys Open course and US Women's Open), always kept in pristine condition, great layout, fair, and I get to play it a lot since my buddy is a member

5. Erin Hills- Solid track, great environment but none of the holes really stood out and thought price was too high

6. Whistling Straits, fun track, bad swing that day, and it hailed on us in May

7. Grand National RTJ- I thought it was fantastic, great shape, fun course, and was probably the best value of any of the tour courses

8. Pebble was sweet, but I prefer the Bandon courses
