NEW MACGREGOR IRON AND WEDGES

Recommended Posts

Mickey, Thats awesome!!

Same here. I just ordered a set Thursday and Mac said they will ship this Tuesday. I got Pro C's coming with Nippon 1150s. I'm also going to pick up the 52 degree gap as well. I'm psyched. Reid also helped me with my decision. I also got custom fit for the proper lie. ( 1 deg flat). 3 weeks until Myrtle Beach!

I just got some pro-cm that I'm going to hit on the range with today and play a few rounds with next week. Beautiful clubs indeed, small heads, very little offset. The blades are by far the better looking of the two. Need to evaluate whether a future purchase of some DW grinds are in my future or not :russian_roulette:

Hi everyone. First time poster, long time reader. I picked up on this thread after I spoke with one of MacGregor's customer service people. Most informative.

I just want to add to what everyone has said about the great customer service and sales support that MacGregor has going right now. I contacted the company through its web site a few days ago and they put me in touch with their upper midwest sales rep. Nice guy and very helpful. After some communication with him, I ended up exchanging e-mails with Reid Gorman. How many equipment companies give you access to their president almost from the get go? I was amazed.

I am a long time fan of MacGregor Golf. I am glad to see that they are trying to go back to their roots and wish them all the best. Who knows? I might even end up with some new Macs in my bag. . .

Got the large bucket today (150+ balls) worked my way through all the irons and they are felt really good.. no complaints. The blades felt really pure, ballflight is slightly high but not abnormal (rifle 6.5's) distance is good as well. The long irons are not GI, but given the size I cant complain. I'm missing a chunk of flesh on my left thumb, so in between my bleeding and re-adjusting of my bandage, I did the best I could to put a good swing on them. Definitely worthy of all the praise the irons have been getting... worth me getting DW's.. dont know yet. Not much I would want to change on the std retail grind actually other then a more square toe and maybe a straight sole. Need to hook up with Demo since he has the grind I would consider and shaft too.

Actually pulled out a few 67 VIP (8I/6I) since they probably have the one of the toughest grinds to hit known to man..but alas the grips are a little slick and thumb was not cooperating anyways. All and all the macs are really good. Will bag them for sure for the next couple rounds.

I had the chance to hit the range today with the demo irons I received from MacGregor after exchanging e-mails with Reid Gorman. I was sent the 7 iron in both the Pro-M and Pro-C. Both irons were shafted with the stock Nippon stiff shaft. By way of background I've been playing MacGregor irons for years, first a set of Muirfields, then my most recent set of 1025 CM's with Rifle Flighted 5.0 shafts. I was worried that the stiff Nippon shafts would be a problem, as I am more of a swinger than a hitter. No problem with the shafts. They do not feel "boardy" at all, but felt very smooth. Shot dispersion was tight with both irons. I have to say that I preferred the feel and ball flight of the Pro-M over the Pro-C, but both were very nice irons. Maybe it's because I'm used to hitting the 7 iron in my current set, which is an M. Even when hitting range rocks, these irons felt great. Obviously I could tell when I mis-hit on the toe or toward the heel, but ball flight was still good. Needless to say, when hit on the sweet spot both of these irons felt silky smooth. I also really liked the satin finish of these irons. That's one thing I always liked better about my Muirfields over my 1025CMs. Very beautiful irons. Also, from address there is little visible difference between the M and the C. I definitely can see a set of these babies in the CM configuration in my future.

Thanks MacGregor for putting out another set of beautiful forged irons, and for great customer service!

Got my black combo set today with PX 5.5 and 3 DW wedges to match. Folks, these are the real deal--great look and feel, quality forging. They may not be the right fit for everyone (not much offset, very thin soles) but there's not any U.S. OEM making anything any better than these. If you like the look of classic irons, you can stop here.

I just received my custom DW wedge this past Tuesday... it is better than any of the photos! Really a sweet forged wedge. The grind on this wedge is second to none!

I might add, the customer service on all of this stuff has been great! I cannot say enough times how much I want to see Mac succeed! They deserve the chance and I believe it is with all of us to help. I can tell you that I have passed a lot of this information on to friends that have been looking for golf equipment. It is important to spread the word.

The new Pro-M is the best forged blade I have hit in a long time, the long irons are the best I have ever hit thats for sure. I have project x 6.5 in mine and they seem to be the perfect fit. The DW wedges are amazing as well. I was trying to get myself to order a set of custom grind wedges and irons, but the grinds that come on the retail sets works out very well. No digging whatsoever. I cannot wait to get my staff bag :clapping:

I seem to have misplaced the 9-iron out of my old set of Hogan Apex blades...now I'm REALLY being pushed towards a set of MacGregors...3H, 4-7 ProC, 8-PW ProM.

Problem: Not any sign of dealers up here in the Great White North (at least this part). And although I am quite sure I would like them, I'm a bit hesitant to purchase sight-unseen.

Met with my local rep today, JT Holsman.

Spent over 3 hours with him, and was really torn between the DGS300 and the PX 6.0. I went with the DGS300, as that provided the best flight for me, and still had really nice feel. The Nippon shaft felt great, but I was flying those a bit too high.

Went with the MT 460, 10.5 degree, NVS stiff shaft.

3 wood, DVS shaft, stiff.

2 hybrid with DVS hybrid (as well as 3 hybrid).

3-PW in the Pro-C

2 Don White wedges.

Never had attention like that from any type of rep.

Fantastic customer service.

I decided to go with the Sanibel putter as well.

I really liked the putter, and I was rolling them very well. Plus, it is such a value, that I really can't go wrong.

I may one day pull the trigger and go with a custom version of this putter, possibly in copper.

I really liked the insert on the DCT, and I did an informal test with the DCT line vs. my Anser 4.

The DCT line (I liked the Palma Ceia and the Sanibel) definitely rolled further on toe hits.

I tested the Pro-C's today at Haggin Oaks. They live up to the billing. Beautiful head. Not difficult to hit at all. Hitting was mats only, so I don't have an opinion on the soles.

Met Don White as well. A very nice gentleman who was under the tent all day.

I was very impressed by MacGregor.

I have been playing the new MT 460 driver for about 3 months now and I absolutely love it. Combined with the Aldila DVS shaft I am hitting the ball farther than ever, and I've been playing 30 years now. I also have four of the new MT wedges and I must say I'm less than impressed with them. I get the distinct impression they are too soft as after a few rounds I have nicks and gouges forming in the faces and scoring lines. I know they are made of 1025 steel which I guess is a softer forging, but it's disturbing to buy new wedges and after a few rounds have them start to look like they are a few years old. My SW prior to this was a Tourney 5612 from 2002 that I've played about a year with (4x a week) and it does not have a single gouge on it. It is however; made of 1030 steel which seems to be much harder. I even went and looked at my VIP Tour CB 92 irons that I played with for 10 years and they don't have anything like the wear on them these new wedges have. The stories I have read in Golf or Golf Digest magazine recommending you buy new wedges every four months makes me wonder. I want clubs I can stick with and not have to worry about them wearing out in 6 months.

By the way, Rayl Evans will be at the Desert Mountain Demo Day in Phoenix April 30th. There will be several Brands there, so don't miss it if you are nearby!

For anyone who is in the Phoenix area and would like to attend the Demo Day at Desert Mountain - I am told that this is a Semi-Private Golf Club, but if you contact Rayl in advance, he could get you in to give the MacGregor's a try. Email him at [email protected].

By the way, I just received my MTs. I should be playing next week and will offer a full report on the performance. Can't wait!

what's going on Mac Fans. 48 hours and no comments about the new MTs. Are you all on Holiday or what???

Ok, I'll get this going again.

Got my custom set of Pro Cs yesterday with Nippon 1150s. Of course it decides to rain hard here over the last couple of days. Can't wait to hit em. Hopefully I'll get out there tomorrow afternoon for a few holes. They feel great in the hand already and it nice to have the proper lie angle. .(1 Deg. Flat).

Freddie, when are you going to be man enough to bag an entire line of Mac's???

Is it wrong that I will be telling all of my buddies that "MT" stands for my initials??? It is pretty cool that they do, though. I can find some gullible bums at the 19th hole and tell them that I sat next to Greg Norman at Tiburon while I was down there earlier in the year, and I convinced him to put my initials on a line of clubs.

Actually, I was at Tiburon earlier in the year, but I didn't see Greg. I did see this Columbian barmaid though, who was pretty hot. So I had that going for me, which was nice.

Mickey, we definitely have a lot in common, cause I've been to Tiburon more than once myself. Never ran into Greg, but my brother did at Grey Hawk in Az a long time ago. I can see a full bag of Mac in my future. Especially the Wedges. Not sure if I'm ready for a 450CC head. I just can't look at one yet. My 330 CC TM still seems huge. LOL>
