St. George, Utah Trip

My buddies and I are going to play Copper Rock next week. We got a coupon for $55 that includes a hat or towel and figured we'd check it out before they raise the rates to Sand Hollow levels. Just need to make sure we pick a day that isn't windy.

We went last Friday, course was in great shape and they slowed the greens down a bit.GPS is a little sketchy so bring a range finder.A LOT of guys left Coral to go to work at CP, so you might recognize some familiar faces.Once the new clubhouse is finished and a few other things get completed on the golf course,Copper Rock will be a top notch track.Right now at the reduced rates the course is PACKED,It'll be interesting to see if they can get the same amount of play when the green fees ramp up to $115-120.....I kind of doubt it!Hopefully they'll have a reduced rate for locals in the future!

Welp, tried to set up a game during the promotion and unless we want to tee off at 2:30 there’s nothing. Price goes up to $110 on 3/12 so I guess I’ll wait for summer rates to check it out. The course should be in nice shape then.

Looking to revive this to see what the golf activity is like in the area. I'm leaving in two weeks for a six week stay and wondering if the course there are packed like they are here, even with ourΒ terrible weather conditions. Watching weather and looking forward to the drier conditions and warmer temeratures.

Other than holidays the courses are normal. Weather is goofy right now but generally pretty good. Last Tuesday we teed off all layered up and Β by the 5th hole we peeled all the layers off. Fairways are winter hard on some courses which make for some long drives.Β

Thanks for the reply. I've been watching your weather and it looks delightful compared to ours. YourΒ forecast is looking quite nice. 50's with the low humidity and some sun is short sleeve weather. With that in mind, I figured the courses would be stacked up and tee times scarce.Β

Feb is busier than Jan and the holiday weeks are going to be much busier.Β  Β  As far as courses for 2021.Β  ( i played there in November)

Β

top tier

Sand Hollow- just classic holes 13-16

Copper Rock- great new course with very tough sectioned greens.Β  Β

Β

2nd Tier

Coral Canyon -they are finally doing maintenance that was overdue for years- pending update on completion of this

Sun brook- Woodbridge and pointe are the best 9's.

sun river-Β  has been upgraded to a decent course in last couple of years.Β  good greens

Ledges- good greens, front 9 is blah,Β  back is very good

Sky mountain- about 6 good holes 6 bad holes 6 average holes

Β

Mesquite is a really good option to play for a day.Β

Β

Wolf creek- love hate with some people

Conestoga- just very good golf

Falcon Ridge- fun course.Β  some tighter/ target golf style holesΒ

When do they drop again? June? Thanks Mike

The Ledges' lowest rate is June-August. I'm not sure when the other ones switch.

Hey RSinSG...have you played any rounds lately at Green Springs or Sky Mtn? Β Anyone else have any info on these course as well...feel free to chime in. Β Thanks!

Β

Last summer I played in both of those courses mens league. Both are good courses but are completely different. Green Springs can be a real test and some of the holes are just hard. Not many views to write home about but well worth playing. Sky Mountain is a city-owned course with several holes on the rim of the Virgin Gorge thus there are some spectacular views. It's a decent course and depending on when you play typically has special deals that include golf, range balls and lunch. Β Both are not in the same category as Sand Hollow or the Ledges, but they are equal to or nicer than some of the other city courses.

Β

If you are asking about current conditions I can't say as I haven't played them since summer, but like all the courses here they will have fast winter fairways and hard greens.

Hey RSInSG, thanks for the input. Β You hitΒ it on the head with the course descriptions. Β I have played both many times...should have been more clear in what info I was looking for. Β
Β

I would assume fast winter season fairways like you mentioned. Β
Β

On a side note....I haven’t played Ledges in a few years, since before I believe 16 was beingΒ redone. Β How has that all come along? Done? Looking pretty good probaby? Thanks for the info.

Β

The Ledges has a new GM, Head Pro and Superintendent. The owners have invested a lot of money over the last couple of years including redoing hole 16, replaced all the mowers, constructing a new restroom by hole #3, going back to 4 tee boxes, and introducing long native grass that you want to stay out of. They also got a new fleet of carts with smart GPS that are smarter than some golfers. It’s amazing where some people try to drive (like on the range)Β when the cart shuts down.Β
Β

The Ledges is 1500 feet higher than St. George so it’s colder both in the summer and winter. It’s one of the only courses that doesn’t overseed and I find the greens are some of the fastest in the area.Β
Β

All that being said it’s winter conditions right now with hard fairways and dark greens. I’m biased because I live next to the course and work (well, kinda work for a few hours a week) there, but I think it’s one one of the better courses in the area. The back 9 is hard to beat- bring a camera.

Played Sand Hollow a couple weeks ago. I thought it was a great lay out. The greens were really quick. It wasn't very green at that time. We also played Wolf Creek, Conestoga, Coyote Springs, and Falcon Ridge that week. The consensus among the guys was Sand Hollow was in the bottom of those courses. Conestoga was the favorite among most of the guys. It was also the most green too.

Personally, I really enjoyed Sand Hollow. Great mix of holes and the holes along the cliffs on the back 9 are fantastic. Here's a pic of one of my buddies teeing off on #12 and the view from #1 tee.Β

Going to St George for a couple nights with the wife for our anniversary in mid-june. Plan to take in Zion National Park one day and play a round of golf the 2nd day. Currently have a junior king suite lined up at Sand Hollow Resort and plan to play the champ course. Anyone have experience with the resort and it is an enjoyable place to stay? Also, one round to play in St George, I assumed Sand Hollow was my best bet?

Im headed down mid June by myself. Wolf Creek is a possibility, but I might save it for a buddy trip.Β

Β

I plan on 36 a day. Early and late. When IΒ Β drove by a few courses a couple Junes ago, they looked to be in nice shape and pretty empty in the evenings. Does this seem to be the norm?Β

It depends on the course, and the weather. The hottest time of the day is around 5:00 so on really hot days it can be pretty open. But the rates typically go down after 1:00 so that generates more play.Β

Β

As far as Wolf Creek - you should play it once to say you did. I prefer to play Falcon Ridge which is nearby and very similar in design at 2/3 of the cost. Also, if you're going to play a lot you may want to consider getting the Dixie Direct card as there are several discounts in it - golf, restaurants, etc.

Picking this thread up again for an update...

Β

I'm potentially heading down the second week of November.Β  How are the courses?Β  Is flying into LV the easiest way to get to St. George?

Β

-Thanks, Todd

Overseeding is in September. The courses will be really nice in November.Β
Β

Las Vegas is usually the cheapest option, but the easiest is St. George airport (SGU.) It’s only a few years old and is adding flights all the time.Β
