What up with Rory?

nah....Brooks is great, don't get me wrong but his inconsistent play is tough and he lost to McIlroy head to head late in the year...both should be very proud> @gvogel said:

its actually factual...Rory had a better year

I agree, I was just not presenting any facts that could back up my statement. That is why I rolled with the eyeball test.

but here are a few for consideration. No that these back me up, It shows that outside of the fedex cup money Brooks won more money. So take it for what it is worth. I am still rolling stubbornly with my eyeballs.

In his biggest tournament of the year, Open Championship in Northern Ireland, he missed the cut.

Brooks had a fantastic year in the majors. That's how I rate players.

I can't argue with you there. The open was a big let down. Luckily another Irishman came ready.

So Brooks can win Player of the Majors while Rory wins Player of the Year.

Of those guys brooks was the only one with a decent year. I doubt Rory trades in his year for theirs just because of a major. Would he like to have added a major? Of course anyone would but he has plenty of time to add more.

I think when you add it all up, Rory would rather keep the year he had, than trade Brooks for his year. So I agree.

But, a hypothetical, say Brooks won the Masters, or the US Open, or the Open Championship instead of the PGA. Would Rory trade then? Would he trade his year for a Masters win? I say theres no question he would. Trade for a second US Open, Id say probably, especially given that it was at Pebble Beach. Would he trade his year for the Open Championship, at Royal Portrush? Another no doubt yes.

I don’t think he would trade. Would he have like to have won the open at portrush? For sure, but the guy has a decade plus in front of him to add majors. Getting wins under the belt are important especially with the struggles Rory has he over the last few years.

To win the Masters and complete the Grand Slam, or to win in his home country at Portrush, I think he would trade. The US Open maybe. Trade for the PGA, I doubt it.

He’s 30. He has plenty of time to add the green jacket and more majors. He said he was disappointed by how things went at the open but he didn’t sound like he was willing to give up what he did this season just to have that win

He made 22 mil winning on the PGA tour, then made 35 mil in endorsements in 2019. He is not short for money. I think he gets it together and wins a major or two next year. Brooks who knows. Did he peak just now? Hope he has more in him. Golf needs more good stories.

Rory needs to get off to better starts in Majors . If you look at his first-round scores in his 4 major wins (65,67,66,66), a start in the mid-'60s almost guarantees that he will be in the mix on Sunday. Koepka, on the other hand, has shown he can win when he doesn't get off to the greatest of starts. He was +7 midway through the 2nd round of the 2018 US Open and like 10 shots back but still grinded and ultimately won. With that said, the last couple of years I've noticed an attitude change in Rory. Early in his career, if he would shoot a high round in the first round or his front nine, he would mail it in for the rest of the round or tournament. But in the past couple years I've noticed that Rory doesn't give up as easily. I think the round that stood out to me this year for Rory was the 65 he shot at Portrush on Friday. I think if Rory could figure out how to shoot a round in the 60's on Thursday, he can definitely win more majors.

Do you play any competitive sports? He may never get a Masters win. You don’t forego a chance to win in your prime by assuming you’ll just win one later.

It doesn’t matter if I payed competitively. I’ve already said that a pro wants to win majors. But Rory knows you can’t win them all and that he has a chance to win more, but that he was also disappointed in not winning. Unless you are Rory or in his head you have no idea if he sold swap years with any of the major winner. His year was better than all of theirs.

Rory has stated in the past, its all about the prestige of winning titles, more specifically majors. That being said, winning POY and being handed the trophy by Jack and winning the Fed Ex cup the way he did was pretty special. Would he trade that for a Masters win.....i would say yes. He knows winning the GS puts him in an ultra special class. If he get to 6 or 7 majors that puts him in top 6 all time....i think that is his biggest and most important goal is to get in the Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Bobby Jones category and truly leave his mark on the game

I don’t think he would have traded his wins this year for the PGA but definitely for the Masters.

Uh, Rory has been major-less for 5 years? Don't kid yourself - they get harder and harder to win once you haven't won one in awhile. And that Masters bugaboo is in his head now.

Did I deny anywhere that he wouldn’t have wanted a major?

His comments in interviews have been about his disappointment in not winning a major and not performing well at portrush. Everyone wants to elevate winning a major to automatically getting into tour championship and winning player of the year or that a guy who had a really good year on tour wanting to swap that for someone else’s season.

If you anyone can provide evidence that Rory would swap his year to have tiger or brooks’ year, the open championship then I’ll say he would, unty then it’s just noise from golf fans disappointed that a major winner wasn’t given an award after winning a major and wanting to project their opinions on a player and what he should be thinking and wanting

Yeah Rory did seem to do a lot better at grinding it out through a round or tournament that didnt start off great.
