The G.O.A.T Putter by theputtingengineer

Pro greens maybe, but munis and local greens are only slightly faster in my experience. The masses have gravitated towards heavier due to supply, many tour pros still go light even with the much faster greens.

For fast greens the lighter the putter head the better. For using light grip pressure and achieving a good sense of touch, light putter heads are ideal.

Why swing a sledgehammer for a delicate putt ?

If i aint mistaken Scotty and tiger went though a lengthy process trying to get the swing weight perfect which is D2. Thats why if you look at the back of tigers putter vs a comparable model. The 2nd teir has been grinded to much less of a "step" also tigers putter has a slightly thinner top line than normal. They had a documentary on woods putter Scotty was talking about how that putter was prolly the the hardest putter he had ever had to fit to get the swing weight tiger desired, Scotty said just about everything he did ot kept coming up either a shade to heavy or shade to light. Thats why there are several woods protos because he literally had to redo them once he reduced to much weight.

You can't calculate exact head weight using a swing weight calculator. Too many variables to be precise.

- Length could be measured down the shaft or through the sweet spot. Length could be measured on the shaft or with the grip installed.

- The shaft used makes a difference in the swing weight.

- Multiple wraps of grip tape can change the swing weight.

SW by means of component parts is foolish for accuracy in the first place, just as you point out. Locating precise CoG of each piece is paramount to get a reliable figure, just not possible to equate with a simple algorithm. Scale is KING, calculation by component is for ballpark at best.

The kiddie game is down the street...

From a simple eye test of the shape, one can see the profile Is certainly along the lines of his 330g carbon classic/AOP styles. The sole is super thin, thin topline, thin bumper depth, and shallowed out material on the shoulders. The face height is even shaved down, just look at the almost non-existent top cavity perimeter and neck curve(semi-circle where neck joins the head). It doesn't take a rocket scientist to postulate that the shape is smaller than a AOP NP2, and thus makes it <330g. Case closed.

Been reading this forum and clearly you have an agenda, since you keep stating the presumed Tiger putter specs as fact. No one knows anything. Badds poked holes in your "facts" and the ever changing grip weight is an interesting point as that will directly impact swing weight.. Regardless of what anyone believes, we can only go off of what's published.

In 2016 Golf Digest published an article on Tiger Woods putter, be it true or false, it's not my place to claim fact or fiction. They are a reputable media outlet for golf. Here is the link to the article: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/all-the-details-on-the-scotty-cameron-putter-tiger-woods-will-use-this-week

I pasted the excerpt for easy reading:

"Woods’ Cameron is made from German stainless steel and is 35.25 inches long with a standard lie angle. At one point, Woods had 1/4-degree of loft added to the putter to bring it back to its standard 4 degrees. In this era of somewhat heavier flat sticks, the club’s 326 grams is a touch on the lighter side, although its wingweight of D7 is pretty much standard for a blade putter. The club’s markings include a single sight dot and a red "cherry dot" on both the face and in the back cavity. The putter also has a blank sole, with "Tiger" engraved on the left bumper and "Woods" on the right bumper. The club features a Ping grip with the “Ping” name blacked out and was re-shafted twice over its first 10 years."

Based on your previous posts, I know you will refute the evidence provided. So, I know I am wasting my time.

Now, since I played a part in building the GOAT putters to the exact specs above, turns out their data measures out. We made the heads to 326g, and at 35.25" and the swing weight came in at D7 or very close to it.

Regardless of specs, they are beautiful putters and are very fun to play with, and resemble the putter we have all come to love.

Tiger requested D2 swing weight so that is what Cameron produced. In fact the red dot came about because Cameron's first version was a bit too heavy and milling out a dot reduced the head weight enough to reach the target D2 swing weight.

I think it's great that companies are trying to replicate the G.O.A.T. putter. , but to be as close to Tiger's putter the companies need to get the head weight down below 320 grams.

But even the 330 or 325 versions out there I do expect people will find make more putts for them than the current golf industry standard 350 gram putter heads.

Where did the D2 swingweight come from? 326 gram head at 35 1/4 length with 59 gram ping grip will not yield D2. Been in the golf business for many years and D2 is not even close to what that would be.

Can you show an article like the one above that states D2

I agree that a 326 gram head at 35.25" with a 59 gram grip will be about a D7 swing weight putter. That is why Tiger's actual putter head weight is about 316 grams, not 326 grams.

Cameron has told the story of how before shipping the putter , to meet Tiger's target of D2 swing weight, he had to take off a bit of head weight., This is why he milled a dot shape out of the head (and then painted it red to give the putter a finished appearance).

The finished putter's swing weight was D3, but Tiger wanted D2, so Cameron milled a dot to remove 2 grams of head weight.

Two milled dots, roughly 2-3g each. He wanted to "balance" the weight removal about the neck.

When Scotty Cameron says Tiger requested D2 swing weight, and that he made the putter at D2 swing weight, I believe him.

And it makes good sense because Tiger played his junior and amateur days with a stock Ping Anser 2 D2 swing weight putter.

You are welcome to believe whatever a writer from Golf Digest or Golfworld magazine is selling.

Why it's so hard for you to believe that Tiger prefers a putter head of less than 320 grams and a D2 swing weight?

Nicklaus won most all of his Majors with a 310 gram putter head. Curtis Strange won back to back US Opens with a 305 gram putter head. Johnny Miller shot his Sunday round 63 at Oakmont with a 300 gram putter head.

When Crenshaw was signed by Cleveland to develop the company's "Classic" line of putters the retail version was 340 gram heads but Crenshaw had Cleveland make him a 310 gram head for his personal use.

The list of great putters swinging heads less than 320 grams, and winning Majors with them , is a lot longer than the number of players winning with heavy head putters.

OK so after much searching I found the video that all were talking about. I just found it hard to fathom that a great putter like Tiger would putt with a putter so light. I personally have had and used many light putters in the past and putt much better when I can feel the head more with more swing weight.

I was wrong, Merry Christmas.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI9w-vvDR9o

Was I the only one who noticed this??

when he said, “he drilled the holes and the putter would rust in those dots, so he filled in the holes with engineers dye.”

stainless doesn’t rust and Scotty would have known that!

That’s because the first one he made Tiger was a carbon pro platinum. The D2 putter he made is not the gamer which won 14 majors. Scotty later made another model like the first one he made but with a better material, the GSS. The kicker is 303 or 303 GSS is a denser and heavier material than carbon. Now the question is... did tiger have him make the second one different? Because if it was the exact same shape and size, the GSS would have weighed more based on the difference in mass of carbon and stainless steel.

can of worms... opened.
