No, I thought they didn’t allow walkers?

I was told that years ago and didn’t even think of asking.

They say that on their website. But, you never know.

It's why I have never played there. If they would let me walk, I would definitely check it out.

I was told there were too many blind shots for walkers.  This was like ten years ago though.  You could probably walk it in the late fall when the course was empty.

To be fair, I did find myself driving quite a bit up the hills to make sure it was clear.  Lot's of elevation changes.

The school year is finally coming to an end and it’s 2:00 dismissals for staff. That means I can play some after work golf like the old days. Played White Hawk today Gray to Silver. They got some complaints from the members that the greens were moving too quickly so they sanded them. Grr. Still stimped at an 11, so they might’ve been a tad quick for the Senior clientele there. It was crazy humid and the real feel was over 100° but the rain never came. Just some winds and off-and-on sun. Bogies on 7 and 8 Gray and 3, 4, and 7 Silver and one birdie on 6 Silver for a 76. Ball striking was good but, man, playing in that humidity is draining.

Village Links this Thursday.

Then Hawksview in Lake Geneva Saturday.

Then Seven Bridges in an outing on Tuesday. Never played Seven Bridges before. Went out for a ride around it this morning. It was green.

A year ago this weekend, Bear booked Bonnie Brook. I overslept and had to meet him on the third tee. This year, Bear again booked Bonnie Brook, I again overslept, and I again met him on the third tee. Literally the only thing that kept this from being a complete twilight zone episode was that a different person drove me to the tee box.

Anyway, BBrook was in phenomenal shape. The rough had been cut, the greens were rolling at a 10, and the sand had been groomed. It’s amazing what happens when a course gets a little bit of TLC. Bonnie Brook is basically the polar opposite of every Golf Visions course. Since they closed the tee sheet after 8:30 AM for an event the first two holes were open when we got off 18. They let me play 1 and 2 to get in a full round, which was cool. 72.

My family moved to Gurnee back in 1991 and got a membership to Bonnie Brook for a few years.   I played it back in March 2020 as I was on the fence whether to continue to play at Brighton Dale or move to Bonnie Brook as they are about the same distance from where I live.  Just so much flexibility with courses and teeing off early at Brighton Dale I would never be allowed to do at Bonnie Brook so it wasn't that hard a choice in the end.   Glad that it is in good shape.   I have a supplier coming to town in two weeks and he asked about places to play last week because Thunderhawk had an event or something.   I suggested Shepherds Crook, Pine Meadow, or Bonnie Brook.

Starting in 2018, there has been a noticeable upswing in the course conditions at Bonnie Brook. Greens running with better pace and much smoother. Bunkers with fresh sand and groomed frequently. And, most importantly, the conditions have been consistent. I have played there around 10 times since then (spring, summer, fall) and the course has been in excellent shape each trip out.

Cinder Ridge today. I needed to get an oil change and transmission flush so I couldn’t book a 6:00 AM anywhere. Ended up in Wilmington. Course was pretty full and my God is playing in late morning into early afternoon awful. The guys in front of me set a record for mulligans. They literally hit at least two drives and two approach shots each on every hole. Then tried to chat me up about a “perfect tee shot, perfect second shot, and some bad bounces” since we waited on every tee. Luckily, I played very well. Hit 14 greens and birdied 8. Too many putts though. Lots of burned edges or being one rotation short. Still shot a 72 so no complaints on the end result. The course was in good shape. Fresh sand, decent greens, and the rough had been cut. Balls off the fairway were sitting up very nicely.

Maple Meadows..... what a way to spoil great weather.   Greens didn't like they were mowed today,  or yesterday,  or even Wednesday.  The slowest, bumpiest I've seen in years.    That wasn't the best part,  took 5 hours to get through 14 holes,  we pulled up to 15 and there were 5 groups on the hole.  That was enough to get on out of there.   The ranger came out at one point, to exchange keys because we had the wrong cart keys.   Glad that was his concern.   What joke, don't plan on going back anytime soon.

My game,  well how can you have a game when all you're doing is waiting and the greens are slower than most courses rough....brutal.

I was trying to figure that one out, but the time you were stuck there overrides all other concerns about your day.

I guess there you have to take the cart that matches the key number.   News to me.   He said he spent an hour trying to find us.  Not sure why they just couldn't make note of two carts swapping keys and just go on and get people to speed the hell up.

As I’m sitting on my couch watching US Open coverage because I could not get a reasonable tee time today, I wonder how many days in advance are you gentlemen booking your tee times?? It used to be Sunday-Monday for the following Saturday-Sunday and now it seems like 14 days is the only way. Just wondering what everyone does. Normally like to play really early at HoE, Sunset Valley, Schaumburg, Stonewall,  Prairie Bluff, Blackstone. The usual suspects in better shape than most.

Got out to Prairie Bluff yesterday afternoon. Paired up with a 3some who turned out to be great guys. Played at a good pace, under 4 hrs. Course was in great condition and the weather was just about perfect .

My play was mediocre.

... I don't miss the humidity and I don't miss many courses because there are so many amazing courses in Phoenix. But I do really miss Prairie Bluff. Had a relationship with almost all the employees and loved the layout with no houses in site, the abundant nature, almost always good conditions and speed of play.

Father's Day Weekend and nice weather. I always sit out Father's Day Weekend.

I usually book on Tuesday or Wednesday. This year is nothing like the past two when it comes to getting tee times, so much easier.

SV was packed this morning and tomorrow looks the same.

granted they don't have huge capacity but at 9:30 both lots were pretty full.

combo of really nice weather and the holiday I presume.

we played with two very nice guys.

one we know from the course and another single that really hit the ball well.

just a pleasure to have them with us.

perfect weather and when the wind picked up, of course, it was in our faces when the least needed.

greens were very receptive.

If you're flexible with time and course, you can book a day or two out.  If you need a specific time you need to book a week.   I joined Stonehenge in Barrington and it's generally my go to when I didn't book enough in advanced and need a reasonable time.

Speaking of Stonehenge, spent this beautiful day up there.  After yesterday's mess I had to go somewhere I knew pace wouldn't be an issue, just for my own sanity.  Course was in solid condition.  The course will never blow anybody away, but it's always in good shape and the members there take great care in replacing divots, repairing ball marks ect.  Pace is never an issue, in fact we played 27 holes in 4 hours and 30 minutes.  I just do not understand how it takes anybody 5 hours to play a round of golf, let alone take that for 14 holes.

My iron/wedge game has not been great or sharp the last couple rounds, and that's generally where my game lives and dies.  I drove the ball so so, but really struggled hitting greens, luckily my short gave saved me.  No birdies on the card for me today, just 9 bogies, total giving me 39/39/39.  Great day on the course, and a great recovery from yesterday's nonsense.
