Course conditions 2019 Palm springs

Hi there, I'm looking for some good golf at the end of september 2019.

 

I'm looking for any updates on "current conditions "on the following courses :

Indian wells celebrity

Desert willow Mountain View

La Quinta mountain

Classic club

 

I'm also looking for better options.if you know of a place I'm missing.

Any info would be great.

I am not sure of the conditions at this point but my fav courses out there are both Desert Willow course, Classis club and Shadow Ridge. Usually they are in good shape through Oct. They start to overseed in Oct/Nov. You can find all that info on the courses sites.

Courses should be in great shape at that time of year, but it will be hot! We typically go in September or beginning of May. Courses are in nice shape at those times, but it is smoking hot. My favorites: Indian Wells (both), Desert Willow Firecliff, Classic Club, Eagle Falls, PGA West Stadium, Nicklaus. I don't really care for the La Quinta Resort courses.. feels really jammed in and busy with houses and condos (and people) everywhere. I used to really like SilverRock, but it has gone down a bit due to a recent reno.

great thanks for the feedback. we are kind of limited as it is the overseed time . unfortunately firecliff won't be open.

PGA west stadium overseeds on the 7th, a week after we leave, but the prep is supposed to take effect a week or two in advance. So we are stuck with a select few.

Let me know when you get back how the courses were and which ones you played. We are going up 10/5 and so far have booked your top 3 on the list above.

Those are all good courses. Classic Club is the most difficult , Celebrity the easiest but the prettiest.

Add me to the list of people wanting to get feedback after you return. We're heading there Oct 17-20 and have fewer options than you do due to overseeding. Currently we have the following booked:

La Quinta Mountain

PGA West Norman

Desert Willow Mountain View (though we may replace it with Mission Hills CC - Dye (Shore will be closed))

Desert Springs (this one is set in stone as we're staying here and will have not-so-great golfers with us)

I'll let ya know upon my return. I've phoned down there but get mixed information pertaining to conditions .

 

I think desert willow Mountain View will be in good shape. Firecliff is switching and going into overseed first before Mountain View this year.

 

It's so hot that not many people playing down there from the golfwrx . Hopefully we can get some up to date ( updates).

Specifically desert willow mountain, indian wells celebrity, laquinta mountain

We played indian wells ,desert willow mountain and la Quinta mountain. The weather dropped to low 30s Celsius for our trip. That was more then ideal. All the courses were in good shape. Maybe desert willow was the best . However a lot of people likd la Quinta. Some nice holes on the middle/ back of that course.id return and play all three again.

Desert Willow's Mountain View course is in excellent shape. The only issue is that the driving range is closed for overseeding so warm-up is limited to the putting green :(

Great to here as I will be there all next week playing each of those courses and at least one more.

Havent played PGA west but I would say Mountian View would be my pick. IW has nice courses but I think they are overpriced

I played 36 holes at La Quinta Mountain course today, it was in pretty good shape. Greens were a little splotchy and hard as a rock, but rolled pretty true. Anyway playing 36 at Desert Willow Mountain View tomorrow and then 36 at Indian Wells Wednesday.

I've played them all. PGA West Norman without any doubt. It's a very good course. Players after overseeding would be too furry, and DW Mtn View is meh.

Hello everyone!

 

I posted in another Palm Springs conditions/course recommendation thread the first time I went to PS but can't find that one. Played at Classic Club and a second round at Escena. REALLY enjoyed Classic Club - I think I ended up doing 36 that day and skipped lunch. Escena - was a bit of a let down.

 

I'll be headed back to the valley in November. Staying in Indio this time and really looked forward to playing Classic Club again...maybe even Indian Wells. As I started doing some research in to other courses to try out, found it's overseeding season! GREAT!

 

Looks like my options are going to be quite limited.

 

Couple questions:

* since many of the courses will be cart path only, can I carry instead? I know some courses are power cart only

* I'm sure they don't overseed up here in Oregon, how bad/difficult is it to play shortly after overseed?

 

which of these would be recommended? I'll probably play only 2 rounds this trip and after some searching, these are the only ones open during my stay - most will be barely opened, and I do not have access to private clubs.

I'd like to stay within roughly 15min from Indio.

I'll be in Palm Springs in a few weeks with my wife and she just suggested I take a break from the architecture tours for a day and play. Seeing that it's overseed season, my options will be limited and I don't think I want to lug my clubs for one round. So I guess if there's one course worth playing for the views and the getaway, even with rental sticks, I'm all ears. La Quinta Mountain seems to be what I've zeroed in on in my brief research.

Me and a buddy ate flying out 2 weeks from tomorrow for a week, just booked a $63 tee time at Nicklaus Course, weird at 12:30, next tee time after us is $99. Trying to decide what else to play, did Stadium Course, Desert Willow and classic club back in February, think Shadow Ridge May need a look

I have found that playing a course that is open just after overseeding is a waste of time and money. Wait at least 2 weeks after they stop cart path only.

I just got back from there yesterday and stayed at Shadow Ridge. It was and had been closed for overseeding but must be opening soon because it is really green and looks awesome. I played 36 each day while there as well.

Monday - La Quinta Mountain course

Tuesday - Desert Willow Mountain

Wednesday - Indian Wells

Thursday PGA West Norman

Friday - Classic Club

 

Both Desert Willow and Indian Wells were probably the prettiest overall. The back nine at La Quinta is amazing, greens were hard as a rock though on the whole course.

Flying out Saturday for a week of golf in Palm do only have Sunday booked so far for Nicklaus course, thinking maybe better deals waiting to book, as they will drop rates when times are open.

We are going to night golf the par 3 course once, also want to play Indian Wells, pretty open otherwise.

we are playing 6-7 times so trying to keep rates down a few days, got Nicklaus cheap through GN, booked the Dunes course for cheap on Monday, now looking at a nicer place mid week, considering the drive to Rams Hill, or Shadow Ridge, or IW Players Course. I played Desert Willow Mountain back in February.

 

How is Terra Lago South?

 

IW is the most expensive. Any other ideas welcome, in Palm Desert area.

Classic Club is awesome. Eagle Falls is really good. I love IW (both courses), but yeah, they are the most expensive.
