Long and forgiving 4 iron

I have an Adams XTD 4 iron I kept instead of getting the 4 iron with my new set of irons because it is so reliably straight and long for me.

Very impressed with my mizuno mp 18 fli hi, I would strongly recommend looking at the lofts of the suggested irons. The mizzy hot metal pro was a close 2nd.

Haha I know you love your apex mb but you know it’s 4-iron doesn’t fit this thread!

We’re looking for slimmer udi type or hidden tech in players models. Not a straight up MB 4i lol, albeit apex mb is slightly more forgiving than a typical blade. Imo The tungsten weighting in my z945 4i gives edge over apex mb even. Although both would lose out badly to a tp Udi with graphite for MOST players.

To answer op question. Imo the best 4-iron that is long and forgiving - is the TP UDI. Best of all worlds. Low offset, middle level sole, great shape and feel + it GOES!

I still use my MP5 4i but I did get a MMC Fli-Hi 3i recently and it is just stupid easy to hit. Extremely forgiving and very straight but can still be worked in all directions / trajectories easily if wanted.

Overall a fantastic club.

One jumbo bucket of range balls, 10 days in succession. Take that medicine.

I once asked my mentor why the 3 iron so diffult to hit well ? He asked, how was my 5 iron play ? I answered pretty darn well and getting to be almost as easy as an 7 iron. He then asked, how ofter did I practice the 2 iron and how many times would I pull it out of the bag on the golf course........... That, answered my question.

Then the new 790 it is. Reduced offset, good feeling and just enough low spin to be playable.

Original Callaway Epic 4 iron is pretty easy and not to chuncky.

Not as long as their pro counterpart but generally just so easy to hit of the turf.

I still bounce the apex UT in there whem my legs get tired however the epic 4 iron can ROLL near 3 wood range.

I just tested (be it...tested on a 7 iron heads), and ordered a Mizuno MP-20 HMB 4 iron. That thing felt great, and at least on the 7 iron testing heads, it was going a good 10 feet higher than the MP-18 MMC that I currently have, or the new MP-20 MMC. This will replace my MP-18 MMC 4 iron...which I hit...fine...but clearly not high enough and consistent enough.

Bridgestone J40 DPC is my vote. Very nice profile with a slightly thicker topline. It has a good deal of forgiveness and the ball feels like a marshmallow when you hit it.

I had this same problem. Most 4 irons had too much offset for me as I went to a more forgiving head. I tried at least 6 different 4 irons. I found an awesome solution though. I took a Srixon U85 20° three iron with an AMT X100 shaft and weakened it to 22.5 degrees. Now I have a super 4 iron that carries 15 yards farther than my 5 iron and still sticks on a dime. And can it go low? Of course, it's only 22° of loft, not hard to hit it low if you need to. And not to mention super forgiving since it's a utility.

I've always played a traditional hybrid in the "3 iron" spot, but prefer a more iron like club in the 4 iron spot. I'm a Callaway guy and had the X Utility in 24* and wasn't fond f it. However, I love my Apex UT in 24*.

I love it even more after reshafting it with a KBS Tour Prototype Hybrid (graphite) shaft. Probably my favorite club in the bag.
