Oops I Broke a Window

Yep. It befuddles me that people think they can live in a house on the dogleg and not get hit. It’s just crazy. Homeowners should absolutely have to sign acceptance of any golfball related damage before being able to close on a house on a course. Calling joe hacks slice “ gross negligence “ is like calling a lion a bully for eating meat. Not how it works.

Excellent example.

It’s the fault of the idiot who parked down the 3rd base line.

I’ve seen that a million times. People actually jockey for parking spots close to the field. I park a mile out like Clark w. Griswald. Why ? I don’t want to get hit. People need to take responsibility for their choices. And the choices that should matter most are the root choices. Like building a house in a driving range , or parking a car in foul territory. The hazard exists before the supposed “ victim” arrives. It’s that persons Ill advised choice that leads to the injury. Not the original hazard itself.

I played a course yesterday that was tight and the houses were the closest I've ever seen on a golf course. Made me think of this thread. First hole was a dogleg. You needed to carry a house if you wanted to cut the corner. There was a sign warning you not to cut the corner due to the house and that the golfer was responsible for any damages. Houses were in play on every hole.

Another homeowner had a box with about 100 balls in it on the edge of his property with a sign that read, Please take 2 balls. Thanks to all that donated. I picked out a Gamer Soft and an NXT Tour.

The ethical thing to do here is to start putting your name, phone number, email and physical address on all your golf balls so that in the future home owners will know how to get in touch with you even if you do not know whose window you broke.

Oh and as I posted in another thread... make sure your ball has a "use by date" on it.

I can see how a golfer who CHOOSES to try to hit it over a house could be legally negligent if he hits that house. I've also read that in some instances a golf course itself has been held to be negligent because the course hasn't taken measures to attempt to protect the houses (like planting trees or erecting fences). A sign could help their position in court.

Forget dogleg....ANYWHERE on a golf course will get hit.

My friend has a house near the tee box on a resort course. It's near the tee box of a par 4, far away from the previous green (like 50yds I'd say). Their house gets hit. I have no idea how it's even possible but it does

Which course do you live on ? Lol

Seriously though. A lot of courses have holes with homes in doglegs that are out into the course. Windows 20 feet from the fairway. Hardly a terrible shot to miss by 30 feet when hitting it 250 plus.

Again. The hazard on course is flying golf balls. That hazard existed before the home was built. Sooo the person building the home inside the hazard zone of flying objects has to be mentally owning the risk of doing so. Much like the guy who jumps into a lions enclosure for fun. The risk was there before the “ victim “ made the decision to enter the risky situation. You cannot blame the hazard after the fact and claim a victims status. The decision to knowingly enter the risky area is the choice that is to blame.

I'm not that good. I'll take responsibility if the law says I have to.

Even the best players in the world hit the occasional wild shot. If house is near the course and I hit it I'm not even bothering to check if something got damaged. It's a house on a golf course, the risk is assumed.

I know two guys who bought houses on golf courses. In both cases, before the sale, they were advised that a ball hitting their house was an assumed risk.

That’s the point, it must be am assumed risk. It’s not about ethics more than statistics. It’s going to happen regardless of fault. BB
