Let's Talk Driver Loft

In the market for a new Driver setup for the little dude.

What Driver lofts and Driver heads are your guys/gals rolling with in 2020?

I haven't paid much attention to what's out there b/c I've been impressed with the Cally XR16 13.5* w/Recoil F1 setup for the last year.

Anyone have their under 10 hitting a 10.5* Driver, turned up to 12.5* ?

I see Cobra has a good looking adjustable F9. Cally also has some really affordable Rogues as well.

I see a lot Epic Flash Drivers in kids' bags. Not sure jumping to an Epic Flash is in the works.

I can back into the shaft based on swing speed, so, mainly talking Driver head feedback.

My son (11) has a 10.5 flash driver at at +1 N with the weight straight back. With his + aoa it allows him to achieve around 13* launch which is near optimal for distance and roll for his SS. PGA pros are averaging just over 11* launch but have higher SS and lower spin characteristics.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Junior boy 8YO plays a Cobra Fly-Z+ driver in green with Cobra Junior Shaft (39") with the driver loft set at the max 11.5 degrees. Pic below, but we play it with the weight out at the moment. Picked both driver and shaft up on eBay and the driver head was a 9.5/10 when we got it (still looks like a 9/10). We also have a Cobra BioCell Junior (11*-14*) that we play every now and then and will have that set at 14*.

I'd be willing to bet that adding the weight to the back would increase launch and spin which is what slow SS juniors need. No weight moves the cog towards the middle.

When I first got the driver for him, we played with weight out. We then did some testing over a few months with weight forward and weight back. We actually found that weight forward gave the best results, which is surprising to be honest given his age and swing speed. During our recent trials and tribulations of dealing with his growth spurt, we went back to weight out. Things are back on track now and he hit his longest on course drive ever of 180 yards last weekend. His median drive is more in the 150-160 yard range. I should update my growth spurt thread.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

There's more to a driver than the static loft. After trying out F6, F7 and F8 we are finally moving away from Cobra drivers. After my son got past certain swing speed, they just launched way too high for him. We tried everything from cranking down the loft to 9 degrees, moving weight from back to front, switching out to heavier and stiffer shafts etc..

When my son was 7, we bought him an A flex (Senior flex) Sasquatch and had it cut down to 42", he loved it, could hit it about 175.

We're trying to have a conversation here @GoGoErky. If you don't want to contribute in a constructive way then keep it to yourself. Saying 'go get fit' is the most BS answer and stifles conversation. Maybe some of us have had our juniors fit and can contribute our experiences.

Not to mention OP has kid under 10. Anyone with a kid 10u or has been there knows "getting fit" isnt quite that easy as virtually no shop has appropriate legnth shafts, etc. Its a lot of trial & error and learning from others on here is very helpful.

I couldn't agree more with the both of you.

As a sidenote, if any of you guys/gals have gear that your Junior has grown out of, please shoot me a PM.

Interested in what y'all have collecting dust in your garages.

Agree with this - is there any juniors classifieds on here? I don't know a lot of folks locally with kids who play and it seems like this forum might be a good space to pass along clubs that our kids have outgrown.

No junior classifieds... we've asked. Best you can do is tag it as a junior golf product.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.
