Ping Eye 2 - How Does is stack Up vs Today’s clubs

They’ll be just fine long as you know your distances with each club. Saw 3-4 sets at course this morning being played. Guy in our group still plays his Copper EYE 2s  he bought new when they first came out years ago. They’ve been reshafted numerous times he says. He shot a 73 Monday and shoots par or better most days. He’s a senior golfer who just recently retired!

It's funny, last year I took my Eye 2's out for a few rounds while waiting for a new set of irons to arrive. Second time out I shot a 78 . I damn near called and tried to cancel my new irons.🤣

If you have good low point control, they'll probably work fine. Weaker lofts is no problem once you learn your distances, they aren't as forgiving as most modern designs but they're decent in that respect. No high COR face will cost a little distance and perhaps spin more than ideal on the mid irons but again, not a huge thing.

If you're a mid to high handicapper and have any tendency to get steep, dig or hit heavy shots you're far better off with irons having modern sole designs. Even fairly "player-ish" irons nowadays have more forgiving leading edges and soles than Eye2 irons.

I had played Ping ISI-K irons since the late 1990s.  Last year I got back into golf and after playing the pings for most of the year, I decided to upgrade to some more modern GI irons.  I got the Cleveland Launcher XL irons and really like them.  They *are* more forgiving on off-center strikes.  And they feel great.  But I'm not sure I actually score that much better with them.  I suppose 1 or 2 shots per round go better than they should, but as far as that translating to a better score?  *Maybe* a stroke better per round.

I played mine regularly until about 5 years ago and off and on for a couple years after that. Not as forgiving as modern offerings but still fairly easy to hit. Not as long but that’s a lot due to loft jacking of modern clubs. If you’re looking for something to go head to head with modern clubs they will fall a little short…… but they are still very playable and have a cool factor that can’t be beat!

One of the best irons ever made, but to be honest the Zing 2 was even better back in the day. Biggest sweet spot I can remember.

It took quite a while before Ping made an iron more forgiving than the Zing 2...

@HoosierHacker89 I am on my 3rd try trying to make the Ping Eye 2’s work now.

I have Eye 2 + in green dot this time , I’ve tried a bunch of different shafts as well. This time I started with a grab bag of shafts and I am putting True Temper elevate in them , not sure on shaft for the 3 iron (or 2 if I go for it) maybe a LA golf graphite.

Working on some swing changes that are helping the hook , so far the offset isn’t killing me like it did on my last try with them.

When I am hitting the Ping Eye 2’s well nothing feels better even the forged blades I have played.

My Eye 2 + set had KT shafts in them. Just reshafted them with TT Elevate reg. shafts. I've kept the KT shafts just "because". So far, so good. Will see how they play once I get to take them out for a round. Offset never really bothered me. It was just the way they were designed and I never hit hooks or pulled shots as a result. As with every iron set I have had and still have, if I put a good swing on it, let the ball get in the way, things tend to work out well.

@charliebrown I’m still playing the Ping Eye 2’s they seem to have stuck this time. I like the elevate shafts , I still have the ZZ Lite in the pitching wedge and it feels good so I probably would be fine with the ZZ’s in all of them.

Going to cruise eBay for a matching 2 iron tonight in fact I think.
