I live 30 yards directly behind the tee box on a private course. I have yet to find a ball in my yard. 🤣

I live on a private course and people are allowed to come 10 feet onto the property to get the ball. I’ve had people come almost to the patio to get the ball. I just ordered some no trespassing signs to put at the 10 foot mark. Another fun thing, my wife told me yesterday that somebody was urinating on the cart path, and turned around, zipping up his pants. Golf is supposed to be a Gentlemans game. And gentlemen’s game. Back on the trespassing, it’s just rude.

On the cart path?! Bunch of savages in this town.

Here in Finland every course has an insurance covering unintentional incidents and damage caused by a player playing on the course. Not only that, all the players have their own insurance linked with a membership or with the green fee, should a person not have a membership (extremely rare not to have one in Finland).

Now, in the case of an accident it is only the question of whose insurance is going to be used as that party will have to pay for the deductible, which for a player would be something like 50-100 euros and for the course much more. Thus the course often tries to blame the player even though the course is responsible to save some money. A typical example is a ball hitting a parked car. If the ball is hit from within the course and the incident is unintentional it is a clear cut case of the course responsibility.

It's the same idea as if you built a house next to railroad tracks.  If they were there first, you can't then go and complain that trains are noisy and ask that they be moved.

Our sister club has signs on the cart path between #8 green and #9 tee box for one course telling golfers to hold it 'til the turn because of the houses. The cart path is right next to backyards with nothing shielding the yard from the course. These are small lots as well, so anyone out back or say sitting in the house and looking out a window can see guys taking a whiz in the bushes less than 60 feet away. It's kinda sad really. People should be more cognizant, I know I'm in fantasy land, of their surroundings. Reasonable amount of privacy, sure. In full view of a house? No bueno.

As for retrieving balls from private property, I'm in the maybe category. if I can see my ball, easily get it, no fence, not too close to the house, I will go recover it. I'm not about to search in someone's yard though, if I can't see it from the course, the golf gods obviously wanted the ball more than me and the homeowner can have it.

Yeah my bud hit one in someone’s yard par 5 slight dogleg and he always trying cutting to much. He saw his TP5x personalized laying there, he stepped over and grabbed it and left. The neighbor comes out and goes “I wouldn’t be happy if that’s my yard”. My bud just went on with his business.

my issue is who cares he did no damage and disturbed nothing, and why does the neighbor care?

same course hole 18 straight away with houses on right hand side. Once again my bud pushed his trusty 7 wood along the fence line. I get to one house see a ball laying on patio. I asked the homeowner if that is a TP5x with H on side he goes I don’t know that’s the ball that broke my window last week. In addition the guy has a huge fish bowl with tons of balls. Obviously  this guy hated life and living on a golf course, why don’t you just move already

How were you able pre judge enough to know he hates life?  Was it the fish bowl full of golf balls or his broken window?

Sorry should have been more descriptive he was very angry and his face was red when I asked about the ball on the patio.
I understand the frustration of living on the right side of a fairway when lost right hand golfers miss right.

with my aniexty I couldn’t live there knowing at anytime a ball can come through a window

ive recently become a big constitution / 5th amendment guy so i no longer go into yards to retrieve balls

Right to a fair trial, protection against self incrimination?

In Florida, its the 2nd Amendment that would keep ball hawker's from lurking.....

Growing up, living in a neighborhood in suburbia, some houses had fences around their yards (back, front, or both) and some houses did not. The rule my parents taught me, which was pretty much what every kid was taught where I grew up, was that if the house had a fence in the area your wiffle ball, kick ball, tennis ball, baseball, football, frisbee, etc, landed in after you threw it, you had to go up to the front door, knock, and ask if you could go get your ball back. If the house did not have a fence, you could go in and retrieve your ball.

If I hit a golf ball into someone's yard, I would do the same.
