Real or Fake: Scotty Cameron Newport 2

Anything else that stands out?

I need ammunition when returning this thing...

With only 2 pics and not being able to see it in person I couldn't give you a completely accurate list. Just go on Scotty's website and look at pics of a real one. The differences should be pretty clear.

Out of curiosity... where did you buy it from?

Amazon

I did some quick research on fakes before I bought it, but I guess I’m not used to looking at Scotty Cameron’s so nothing stuck out.

I only found one link to that one on Amazon. It had only 3 total reviews and they were all "star only ratings" meaning those are probably falsified. Also this was what was in the Q & A section:

Again I'm sorry you got scammed, but hopefully you can learn from it and get your money back. Next time, if you're planning on paying full retail price (which this one pretty much is) just buy it from Scotty directly or a real golf shop (in store or online).

Answer:
I bought a Scotty Cameron from Amazon and it was a fake. I paid $375, found out it was fake. Bought it March of 2020. My suggestion is to buy from Titleist

To me a tell is the neck of the putter.  Fakes always have more rounded edges than real Camerons.  There is a definite crispness of edges on the real Camerons.  This one is 100% fake.

obviously my lighting and angles aren’t exactly the same, but it’s still hard for me to tell on side by side photos from the Scotty website

Its fake dude, bummer. Neck as mentioned isn't evenly chamfered, shoulders are squared off on yours and rounded on real, toe area of yours is too rounded, your sightline ends where real extends all the way to cavity, scallop at bottom of neck is too large on yours, back edge of topline on yours is square, real is rounded off. Basically everywhere you look is close, but not quite right. Too bad, its a fairly accurate copy, but a copy it most definitely is.

The angles on yours are all way too sharp, the Titleist stamp on the neck of yours is clearly off, the scoop between the neck and the top flange looks off, the sight line on your stops well short of where it should, the 3 dots on the heal of yours don't even look level, and so on....

Not trying to pile on here, but if you can't tell the difference in those pictures I don't know what else to tell you.

IT'S 100% A FAKE

To me the bottom comparison picture tells it all. Look at the toe. On the real thing it's a very straight edge, where on yours it's more rounded. That's a common flaw with the fakes. Also, look at where the insert meets the face towards the toe, on the sole edge. On the top one there's a fairly sharp change of direction just before the insert and toe come together, where on yours it's a very smooth and subtle, more elongated change of direction. Another common tell of the fakes. Return it and move on.

I’m late to the “reply” party on this but have you already done the return? If not, a test to see how accurate this putter is along with other Scotty’s (and we use it at the PGA superstore location where I work at) is find a magnet...if it sticks it’s fake.
