Ping g410 reg vs lst PGA vs LPGA

Recommended Posts

I’ve been debating on these two heads, but don’t have access to testing. One of the things that surprised me when researching is that the lst head for driver and fairways is listed way more under LPGA players bags than PGA. Really surprised me as you always hear references to swing speeds and low spin needed. Kind of goes against the norm especially for fairway woods. I know there is lots more like angle of attack that comes into play, but found it really surprising. One big concern is fade bias of lst head as my miss is a push cut it desired shape is slight cut.

PGA going for control a bit more spin. LPGA trying to maximize distance.

I haven't tested the 410's extensively but the amount of spin is also not night and day. More like day and slighly different time of day. It's not like you will see 1000rpm difference between the 2.

I hit the 400 max vs the LST a lot and it wasn't like there was a huge difference in the heads

It’s a great club!  Plus a couple things at potentially at play

the LST head isn’t crazy low spin - I’d say it’s similar or even higher spin than the SIM Max, which plenty of players fit into

also LST is slightly smaller and more traditionally shaped, which likely appeals to pros

They’re the most interchangeable of regular vs lower spin heads of all the major brands IMO. Ping’s drivers are forgiving, even the LST. Almost comes down to preference.

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread by asking, but is there much difference in launch within the 410 line?  I know shaft and AOA has a lot to do with it, but I found within the 400 series, the LST launched much lower for me than the others with same shaft, loft, etc.  LST was really the only playable option for me.

If you have a negative angle of attack, you might be fit into the LST in order to try to reduce the increased spin and hopefully stop the ballooning

Most LPGA players have VERY flat swing planes (short height with longer clubs) and being able to get a much flatter lie angle on the LST matches up much better.

They both have the same hosel, how could it be that much flatter?

Ping 410+ average lie angle = 58.5

Ping 410LST average lie angle = 57

Straight from the specifications on the Ping website

Lie angle is a great way to influence ball flight. The 410+ is draw biased and part of the reason is the more upright lie angle. LST is fade biased again partly because of the lie angle.

That explains why I have a lot of trouble trying to draw my 410 LST. I have mine in the flat setting on top of the fact that it’s already flat. My fade off the tee has been stellar though.

That makes a lot of sense. Didn’t think of that. I was thinking of getting 9 degree 410 lst and lofting up which should make it more upright and hopefully close to neutral

I looked at Ping website and the adapter and it doesn’t look like turning up loft makes it more upright. So much for that plan. Should still close face though.

I think it's more a difference in max carry vs max distance. With the men the ball stops in the fairway half the time so they want the most carry which may mean a little more spin. With the women they look to have the ball roll down the fairway a bit more so less spin and carry, but more overall distance with the roll.

  Neutral setting is most upright.
