It usually starts around this time, maybe they’re skipping it since their stores I think are closed in Ontario

Yeah, Ontario stores are only open for curb side pickup until the stay-at-home order is lifted. Order expires on February 11th, hopefully won’t get extended.

Grips just went on sale this morning at Golf Town...40% off. Spoke with someone at the store yesterday and he said for this year you can buy the grips online or curbside pickup, then when they re-open just bring the grips in and pay the re-gripping fee and get them done.

Are they usually more than 40%, or is that the re-gripping event?

That’s what it usually is, you always have had to pay for the regripping though. It’s actually super easy to do yourself if u don’t want to wait, I bought some of those Bryson jumbomax last summer and put them on pretty easily.

Good to know. I have to get my clubs lengthened and bent upright too though, so for me it makes more sense to wait unfortunately. Tried hitting some balls yesterday with the clubs unadjusted and my back is killing still!!

Speaking of re-gripping...has anyone tried the Winn Dri-Tac grips? Any thoughts on them?

I’ve been a Lamkin Crossline Midsize guy, but really like the look of the Winn Dri-Tac.

Ive had them before and really liked them but they seemed to wear pretty quickly. I’ve heard they’ve improved that issue since.

Just put in my order...40% off definitely helps! Went with Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Midsize and Traxion Pistol GT Tour grips...might have snuck a SIM Max D 3-Wood in the cart too, Lol! 😉

I am awaiting my shipment, but Niagara Golf Warehouse has buy one get one free.  Especially us DIY regrippers might work.  Even with the shipping from St Catherines, within SO, it was cheaper then GT's 40% off.  YMMV.

I bought through Niagara Golf Warehouse as well.  Cheaper than golftown even when you factor in shipping.

Good to know, thanks for the tip! Just checked out their website, and they’re out of stock on a lot of stuff now. A little cheaper than Golf Town on a couple of the grips left, but looks like the most popular grips are gone. I’ll check them out next year a little earlier.

What grips did you guys end up getting?

I actually went back to Golf Town today and went back to my trusty Lamkin Crossline Midsize. I found the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Midsize’s to be a little too soft and smooth for me and missed the logo as a guide to line up the face.

Just mixed it up and went with the White on Black instead of the Crossline Black.

I went with the standard Golf Pride MCC for the whole bag.  I went with Blue/Back colour combo to go with my Mizuno's.

I was contemplating going with the aligns, but since I've never really used them and didn't want to take a chance.  Thought about just going tour velvets too, but I like the MCC's better.

Nice! Yeah, tough to try new stuff this year without being able to see it or hold it in person. I’ve got a trunk full of stuff I need to return to Golf Town once it opens, including grips now.

Definitely like all the colour combinations GP offers in the MCC for sure...will be in the running for next year.

How much is GT charging to regrip, used to be a buck but went up to $3 last time.

Yup, it was $3 the last time I got a club re-gripped recently.

If you have access to a vise and an air compressor, you can put them on easily.

I like tinkering with my equipment, but while a buck was something I could handle, there is no way it's worth $3.  Once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why you ever paid someone else to do it if you had access to the tools.

I did my whole set without a vice. It's not bad, just lots of mineral spirits. Though I have used a vice before and it is easier.

I would try and re-grip myself too, but need to get my clubs extended and bent upright.

Will definitely leave that to the pros for this year, but maybe will give it a shot next year if no other adjustments need to be made.

Extension isn't too hard.  Just a piece of an old shaft with extra to epoxy onto end of shaft.  Easy Peasy if you know your length.

Bending....  yeah, that one is more involved.

The normal way is super easy and cheap if you don’t have an air compressor. Or if you put grips on that are too big for the fitting.

True, but can get a little messier with the solvent.  But yes, certainly easy.  Air compressor has the added bonus of being able to save grips a lot easier.

Either way, if you get into paying $40 just for putting a set on.....  if you can, learn to DIY!

I think they charge 5 bucks a grip if you didn’t buy them there, I wanted to try some they didn’t sell this summer and after they said $5 per.... figured I could do it myself. Pretty easy

Good to know. Yeah, just watched a video of how to change grips yourself, and I could definitely do that. I'll let the pros handle the extensions and bending this year, but I'll re-grip myself next year for sure.
