You had me with The Lightning Seeds, but lost me with Donald Fagan and Go West!. Go West! is certainly catchy, but I've yet to find the appeal of Steely Dan or any of Fagan's solo work. I realize it's not a popular opinion.

Yeah, I guess it must be the "smooth jazz" thing. I like traditional jazz, but the smooth stuff just doesn't resonate. I believe I am missing a gene.

Just wanted to highlight another thread of music that ran through the late 80's/90's - some good, some bad, but crazy how the influences get mingled together and the similar references.

I mean, they got older. But serious respect to the RZA for getting in with Hollywood. 

 

Wu Tang is definitely legit. Can't say a bad thing about them.

 

I'm not a huge Hip Hop fan, but can't deny the appeal of some of it. Tupac was pretty weak. N.W.A. was good. Dre's early solo stuff was good. Ice Cube had some good tracks. Easy E...well, he was Easy E.

 

Public Enemy, KRS One, and BDP were a little bit more my speed as far as the East Coast stuff of the era was concerned.

I never really liked Anthrax but I was very briefly into Stormtroopers of Death after their first album. Scott Ian was in that band as well as Anthrax.

I'll round out my little Jim Steinman tribute with the most random out of nowhere with the musical style at the time comeback and #1 hit of the 1990s. I still love to work with Bat out of Hell II playing in the background. The man loved his wordy song titles and epic opera-style tracks.

I'm with ya gal ThinkingPlus. I got your back.  lol    Different tastes and all for folks, but Steely Dan was fabulous music. Fagan and Becker were some of the most masterful musical artists of their time for sure. 

Some of my favorites. Nothing smooth jazzy about any of them , well according to me.
