I have thought of late that losing her card was the best thing that could have happened to her. Popov came here and beat up on the Cactus Tour gals and seemingly got a huge boost in her confidence.

But I really cannot agree on the players on the fringes.  If a women player has the chops she will get there. A player like Woods has repeatedly proven why she is on the fringes.

Naaaa, not when travel/living expenses are a constant consideration. I don't think Cheyenne has to worry along those lines but I know a few former Symetra AND LPGA players for whom it was a constant battle.

I enjoy this US Open tradition; we'll learn all 18 holes in the next 18 days:

Based on about 255 tee shot average for the women and 295 for men that’s the equivalent of about 7500 yards….at sea level. Guessing that is about the length Torrey will play?

I have always enjoyed watching events at the Olympic Club…looking forward to it!

Titleist TSR4 9° Fujikura Ventus VC Red 5S

Titleist TSi3 strong 3w 13.5° Tensei AV White 70

Titleist T150 5-pw Nippon Pro Modus 125

Vokey SM8 50° F & 56° M SM9 60°M

Both the Olympic Club and Torrey Pines are par 71 and Torrey is listed at 7,643 yards.  The Olympic Club will play 6,480 yards.

So I was close guessing 7500. Good to know.

Thanks for posting the hole info!

Women’s men’s or both?

Personally I’ve never been a fan of USGA carnage. Even to -5 is enough for me. These are the best in the works let them show off a bit.

The Women's Open last had a winner finish over par in 2005.  (Cherry Hills, Birdie Kim).  The only other one since 1984 was Se Ri Pak's breakout win at Blackwolf Run in 1998.  Things were VERY different before 1985.

I think there is absolutely a place in the game for a stout challenge, just like there is a place in the game for events where the winner shoots 28 under.  I'm looking forward to it, Olympic is a great track.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of -28 either really.  Maybe in the occasional regular event at a course set up the way most of us play on a regular basis.

But the US Open?  Even to -10 is a perfect winning score for me. Play well and be rewarded. Play poorly and suffer.

Bottom line is I have never enjoyed courses that are too tricked up to artificially make the men or women shoot over par winning scores.

Don't forget how cold San Fran can be in the morning...so it will affect distance or lack there of.

I played Presido and Harding twice in early August in 2008...tee times around 8am....my hands were numb after 9 holes.

I thought Harding was average at best....a rip off for non-residents...I think the green fee was $150-$165 in 2008???

Luckily, I was on a corporate Prez Club and didn't pay...except for the taxable benefit for the trip.

On TV....the South looks kinda boring, except the views on the ocean holes.

I think the North has more character.

I've never played Torrey, so maybe my opinion might change if I did tee it up there.

I think this might be a record on the PGA, LPGA or Champions tours..

2020 pandemic year was a strange year to say the least.

PGA Tour's Workday Charity Open (July 9-12) took place one week before the Memorial Tournament (July 16-19)  on the same course, Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.

Got to play a round on Saturday on the Lake with a qualifier for the USWO.  Very cool to play with someone who's that good at golf!  The rough is .... ridiculous right now.  So easy to lose the ball if you miss the fairway.  Obviously they have the option to cut it down before June 3.  At least the fairways seem wider than in 2012.  Nonetheless, I expect it will disproportionately favor players who can hit the most fairways.

Good to hear...I want to see the gals beat up with a -2 winning score.

So was the qualifier a LPGA pro or an Am?

One thing we know for certain  at the 2021 USWO.... is that Whan won't make a gaffe at the trophy presentation like Diana "5 martini" Murphy.....BETHANY Lang...lol.

I'm not sure if Diana attempted to pronounce.... Park Sung-hyun...... in 2017...lol.

We won't hear Mike say:

"Ladies and gentlemen...please welcome your new 2021 USWO champion, LINDA Ko"

Sorry to spoil your fun; but Whan won't join USGA until July, 1, 2021.

Very intrigued to see how the ladies take on this challenging golf course. Recall when Webb Simpson won his major at Olympic Club it was a real test of a players strategy & patience. I'm backing Sei Young Kim to have a great run at the championship in a fortnights time.

Both!

I am a fan of US Open carnage. It's one tournament for the year. i want it to be special.

Think of Tiger, Pebble Beach 2000. he won with -12, but runner up was +3. That's how I like it!

To add to my previous comment. I don't like them tricked up to the point of stupidity. One doesn't want to turn it into a lottery. But a relentless, stern test - yes!

Help me out.

I can't recall.

Was it during the 3rd rd at the 1998 USO when Payne Stewart had an 20??? ft uphill putt on 18 and the green was so slick that his 1st putt rolled back to his feet....I seem to recall he was so mad.

Might have been the second round. But yes. 1998 Payne Stewart. That green has been entirely redone since then. (Ie before the 2012 open).
